Since I had so much fun wearing my Penguin Nails, I decided to try more animal nail art in the snow – Snow Bunny Nails!
Although this design doesn’t use many colours, it took much longer to complete than the penguins. So if you give this one a go, make sure you have a good chunk of time on your hands.
Like what we learned in Aesop’s Fables, slow and steady wins the race. Looks like in this manicure, the hare taught us that, though, not the tortoise.
This was my Christmas manicure. I wore it on the 23rd straight through to today even though I really wanted to wear China Glaze Party Hearty. (After spending over an hour on these ‘wascally wabbits’, as Elmer Fudd would say, I just couldn’t bring myself to remove them for a long time.)
With some minor tweaking (i.e. making the ears shorter), you can easily convert these rabbit nails into cat nails!
Also, I was extremely busy over the past few days, so I was only able to capture this manicure mainly with my flash. Although, a few are in the sunlight and some are in terrible dim artificial light. But from the mediocre photos I was able to take, you get the basic idea.

What I Used:
- Nubar Foundation Base Coat
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- OPI Absolutely Alice
- China Glaze Snow
- Rimmel Princess Pink
- Milani Nail Art Black Sketch
- Piece of foil
- Daniel Stone Art Tool #3
- ASP/All Season Professional Nail-Art Brush (long)
- ASP/All Season Professional Nail-Art Brush (short)
Step 1: Apply a Base Coat
Step 2: Paint Your Nails the Background Colour
I suggest that you use a colour that will be a good contrast against the white bunny’s head. You could use pastels, but just make sure it’s not too close to white. (I went with glitter – OPI Absolutely Alice!)
You actually only need to paint the top third of your nail. Then wait about 10 minutes to allow this to dry a little before proceeding. If you use a glitter polish like I did, you don’t have to wait long since glitters tend to dry much quicker than other finishes.
(I’m in the habit of painting my entire nail, though, because I think that some people will find it helpful to see the colour on the entire nail. Please note, however, that all my tutorial photos are usually done with my camera’s flash since I tend to be a nocturnal nail painter.)

Step 3: Start the Bunny’s Face
Using the polish right from your bottle, paint the bottom of your nails – slightly more than half. Don’t worry if they look uneven. See, mine are all different. Heck, even my nail shape’s different for all my nails! (When you’re finished the design, you’ll see how everything meshes together and the differences between all the nails don’t matter so much. Remember, the goal of nail art is to have fun and enjoy the manicure – it’s not about perfection!)
Step 4: Let Your Bunny Hear Things
Add a few drops of white polish onto your piece of foil and use your nail-striper brush to create two triangles on the upper portion. (Again, don’t be concerned about making them all identical. After all, bunnies are like humans – they like to be noticed for their individuality. :P)
Tip: If you can, make the ears longer and rounded at the tips instead of what I did. I think it may turn out cuter.
Another Tip: You can transform this into cat nail art by just making the ears really short.
Step 5: Add the Details to the Ears
Put some pale pink polish onto your piece of foil, and use a nail-striper brush to apply pink to the inside of the ears.
Step 6: Give Your Bunny Sight
You could just put two black dots for each eye and call it a day, but I like eyes to be more detailed.
If you want to go the route that I did, add a few drops of black polish onto your piece of foil, dip your large dotting tool into it, and create two dots on the face as shown below:
Step 7: Make It Snow
Add some white polish onto your piece of foil, dip your small dotting tool into it, and have fun adding random dots on the background to make the weather look more wintry.
Step 8: Add More Detailing for the Eyes
Clean off your large dotting tool and then dip it into the white pool of polish you have on your piece of foil. Go over the lower portion of the black dots you recently created. Try to keep the top part showing. You want to cover the bottom.
Step 9: Give Your Bunny a Sense of Smell
Add some pink polish onto your piece of foil. Dip your small dotting tool into it and add one dot below the eyes.
Step 10: Add Whiskers
Use your nail striper to draw some lines for whiskers. Or you can do what I did – dip the dotting tool into black polish and creates lines like below. (You’ll achieve better whiskers than mine if you use the proper tool – a brush or a nail-striper.)
Step 11: Add Pupils
Clean off your dotting tool and dip it into some black polish. Apply pupils within the large white circles. Feel free to make your rabbits look in different directions instead of just one.
Now, this is a crucial!
Because of the thickness of all the polish for this design, please wait a longer-than-normal time for this to set before applying a top coat.
I waited a good 30 minutes, but because the eyes had a lot of polish, when I went to apply my top coat, it totally smeared the pupil on my index finger. And, only when magnified, can you see the smearing on my thumbnail’s eye.
So…please, please, please…maybe even wait 45 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Step 12: Apply a Top Coat

Thank you – hehe, you should’ve seen me fumbling around with my camera while I was painting my nails. Sometimes it’s tricky to paint my nails and then pick up the big camera to shoot photos. (Still getting used to it. With my point-and-shoot, it was easier just because the camera was so light.) I’m always worried that I’m going to drop my camera…haha…or accidentally get polish on the camera! 😛 (So far, so good, though…*Crosses fingers, eyes, and toes*)

This is great! So cute and although it requires several steps it looks easy enough for anyone with some patience to do! 🙂 I like the more complicated tutorials, personally. Most of my tutorials are simple because I feel like a lot of people aren’t necessarily obsessed with polish like I am, so they might not have all the colours needed for a design. I try to keep them simple (or at least easy to follow) so as not to overwhelm anyone.

We may not have had white snow, but you were surrounded by white bunnies…
And let me tell you, these are not just regular bunnies… they are genetically adaptable bunnies (make the ears shorter and they become cats! love it!!!!)
Though the bunnies are incredible, what I like most is the deep dark purple you used to make the eyes! (over any old black)… perfect!
I’d feed them carrots… oooor, maybe gingerbread cookies off of a pan?

I love how the noses look 3D! 😀 Aww, I have such a soft spot for bunnies that when I was last in Quebec City and saw a resto that had these adorable rabbit statues adorning the facade, I wanted to try it. Looking at the menu, it suddenly made sense why they had all those rabbits: rabbit was their specialty! O.o Needless to say, we passed.
How cool that you were sporting snow two days before we actually had any of the white stuff? Prophetic? 😀 And I love that you wore these on Christmas! I was boring and went with plain Peridot. 😉 That is one ridiculously strong duochrome! I’m so glad you and Marta talked me into getting it.

Surprisingly, I know a lot of people who’ve eaten rabbit…but it’s something that I’m not willing to try. (I was a vegetarian for years and only just got back into eating a little meat. So I’m not about to munch on cute rabbits now!)

Cute bunnies, you did a good job! I have indeed eaten rabbit, but it was in Mexico so it was smothered in sauce. All I can say is that it was spicy and a bit greasy!

Hehe, people always say that ‘exotic meat’ tastes like chicken. Do you think rabbit tastes like chicken?
I think the whole “tastes like chicken” thing is because chicken is a bit less distinctive in flavor. I mean, it definitely didn’t taste like beef, goat or pork, so out of all the meats I’d say it tastes more like chicken than anything else. Doesn’t mean I would actually confuse it for a piece of chicken, though. 😉
