Guess what? I got the opportunity to wear OPI Gone Gonzo! from the upcoming OPI The Muppets Collection!
I showed you yesterday what a glittertastic polish Rainbow Connection is, and today I’m showing off this blue-and-silver glitter polish!
It’s actually more opaque than Rainbow Connection, although instead of a myriad of colours, Gone Gonzo! features only two. But it’s still pretty to me, and I don’t have any glitter polishes that are similar, so I’m thankful to have this in my collection now. π
In this post, I’ll show you oodles of OPI Gone Gonzo swatches (of course) and show you what it looks like with just 1 coat as well as layered over several other polishes.
Hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect from Gone Gonzo! Is this one of the glitters on your list or does it get a pass?

OPI Gone Gonzo! Review
Colour
The main glitter is a vibrant blue, but the larger pieces are silver. It sparkles like crazy. The small glitter dances on your nail in a similar way that snow does when the sunlight hits it. And the larger pieces reflect the light strongly. Heh, it was impossible to not have glare in some photos of this polish because of that.
If Cookie Monster wanted some bling, I imagine this is what he’d use…well, if he had nails and if he could stop eating cookies long enough for the polish to dry!
Finish & Grittiness
Gone Gonzo! by OPI is a glitter polish comprised of very small dense blue glitter and large silver hexagonal glitter.
Although it appears really chunky on the nail, the finish is actually fairly smooth, not rough or sharp. I think it’s because everything is suspended in a thick clear polish, which coats everything nicely. Also, the glitter lies flat on your nail, which also makes a big difference.
It dries relatively quickly to a pretty smooth finish, but to get it slicker, you’ll want to opt for a top coat.
Application
When you apply this, you can paint your nails normally, but you’ll have to go over and move some of the larger glitter pieces around with the brush so that they don’t dry in a clump – they look better spread out. Also, you’ll want to make sure that none of the glitter is hanging off the edge of your nail.
And as with any glitter polish, you should wait for each coat to dry pretty well before proceeding to avoid bald patches.
Formula
OPI Gone Gonzo! has a thick consistency, which is not shocking when it comes to intense glitterballs like this. Considering the thickness, it was relatively easy to manipulate. Over time, however, you’ll most likely have to thin this out.
Layering Experiments
It looks nice on its own (if you use 3 or more coats), but I much prefer to wear this layered over another colour because I like the dimension and added opacity that gives. Plus you can truly make the manicure special when you choose a colour combination.
My favourites are OPI Gone Gonzo! layered over OPI What’s with the Cattitude? and Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight.
If you don’t have Turquoise Moonlight, Orly Halley’s Comet, Zoya Charla, and OPI Catch Me In Your Net are the same pretty much.

What colour would you layer under Gone Gonzo?
Opacity
Pardon my yellow-stained nail, but I wanted to show you that Gone Gonzo! has more dense glitter than OPI Rainbow Connection, which I swatched and reviewed yesterday.
Glitter Removal
Glitter isn’t the easiest to remove, but there are 3 things that you can do to make it easier on yourself. I’ve listed them in a previous post. Please scroll down to the bottom of my OPI Rainbow Connection post to read about my suggestions in detail.

Final Verdict: 7.5/10
OPI Gone Gonzo! is nice. I like it, but it isn’t absolute love for me. This will be really fun to layer over shimmery turquoise colours. This is a polish that really brings your nails to life. It ain’t for a shy wallflower, that’s for sure! Heh, but even if you are one, maybe this is a good time to try something different. π
Do you prefer polishes with rainbow glitter or with just 1-2 different coloured glitter? What would you layer under this? Do you avoid wearing glitter polish because it’s harder to remove?
Oh my Mary! If you keep this up you’re going to turn me into a glitter fanatic!!! Damn! This colour is soo pretty!!! Sweetness!

Hey Marta!
Well, stay tuned (or not if you don’t want to become a glitter fanatic…hehe)! I have a few more to share. π
Oh Mary, you’re killing me here!! That’s 2 of my top picks in the Muppets collection in a row! It’s blue, it’s shiny, I love it (like a love song, baby :P)! If you do the green one tomorrow I will die of envy. I mean it. π The release date can’t come soon enough at this rate!!
Hey Carmela!
I actually swatched the blue one especially for you and others who like blue polish. I’ve been focusing a lot on green for a while and have been neglecting blue polishes even though I love them, too. So when I decided which ones to swatch first from this collection…well, Rainbow Connection had to be number one (that’s a no-brainer…hehe), but then I knew I should try the blue after.
Hehe, I’ll see what I can do about the green one. π
Aww, you’re a sweetheart! π This collection is definitely delivering with everything I’ve been hoping for it to be. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I was going to go glittery today with my weekend mani to satisfy my glitterlust for the time being but I somehow ended up with OPI Passion layered with Nubar Opulent Cloud. I guess I needed a palate cleanser of sorts and it turned out all soft and whimsical instead. But I like the subtlety of it. Definitely doing glitter next tho. XD
Hey Carmela!
That layering combination sounds really sweet! Yes, sometimes you need a palate cleanser or you may feel overloaded with so many bold colours. π
I’ll do my best to get up the green glitter swatches really soon. π Now I have more motivation!
Actually, I’m going to have to bring the nail wheel with the layering combinations with me outside and snap some photos. The sun’s still out and those are the only photos I’m missing of it. Haha! I think people will wonder why I’m taking photos of a weird wheel with creepy nails on it. π Oh well, it’s all for my wonderful blog visitors!
These disappointed me, big time. I’ll have to do some more thinking about them. Thanks for sharing!

Hey thenailaholic!
Aww…it’s too bad they disappointed you. They honestly look waaaay better when layered over other colours. It adds a lot more depth and dazzle than when worn alone. But I wanted to show you all what it looked like alone to see exactly what you’re getting and in case you wanted to wear these alone.
If you don’t get any, well, it’s still good because then you’re saving money and then you can spend it on other stuff you really love! π
Hmmm…not sure what I think of this one. I like it over the liquid leather but not over any of the other colors.
Hey Jennifer!
There are so many other colour combinations. π These were just a few that I really wanted to test out. If you like it over dark colours, you could try navy blues, maroons, etc. π
I really like this glitter over black! Thanks for the layering ideas! I think the color looks much better layered.
I’m not sure if I’ll pick this up. I like it but it’s not absolute love for me. I think the silver hex glitter looks great against the blue.

Hey Katie!
No problem. It was cool trying out different combinations. Yes, it definitely looks better layered! It would be neat to try this over a competing colour like yellow or even pink. I’m sure you could create a lot of funky combinations!
Looks like robin eggs when its layered… and some sort of crystal when it’s by itself. So pretty!
Hey Lulu!
Hehe, yes, very blinged-out robin eggs. π I never thought of that! Interesting observation!
I don’t think I’ll be purchasing any of these glitters except Rainbow Connection (which I love love love). It’s too opaque for my liking. They do look nice while layered, but I’m not a big fan of the tiny bits of glitter. I prefer big out worldly chunks of bling haha.
I just can’t get over the fact that Gone Gonzo reminds me of a mermaid’s tail.
Hey Vivian!
Hehe, I understand – Go big, or go home, right? π Rainbow Connection definitely doesn’t disappoint in that department!
A mermaid’s tail? I never thought about that until you mentioned it, but yeah, it really does!
Wow I really like this color, reminds me of snow like you said π Beautiful color, I am going to try and see if I can track this baby out π

oops… track this baby down not out π

Hehe!
Hey Amber!
I hope that you’re able to get hold of it. π It’ll look so good layered over a bunch of different blues.
SO. SPARKLY. The glittery blue amazingness is calling out to me….must buy….muuusttt buuuyyy….Lol this color is SUPER pretty on you, Mary! Love it! π
Hey Ruthe!
Thanks so much! π I don’t usually wear blue glitter like this, so it was a refreshing change. Glad you liked it. I’m sure that it’ll look amazing on you, too.
Hehe, “must buyβ¦.muuusttt buuuyyy”…I was imagining a cosmetics zombie! And I liked it! A lot! π
I love your swatches! I just received my Muppet glitters in the mail yesterday!!! I was sooo excited! Had to play with them as soon as I got them. Found your blog & have been looking at all the layering you tried. I put gone gonzo over. Really pale pink (pinky promise #10) & I liked it that way too. Love your blog!
Hey auntheathee!
Thank you so much! π Glad that you’re enjoying my blog! And that layering combination you mentioned sounds really cool and unexpected. Great idea!
All of the colours are fun but at this point I am falling for the Warm and Fozzy
Hey AnnS,
Yes, Warm & Fozzie is such a great polish, especially for fall. Nice choice! π
I just bought this nail polish yesterday after doing some research on the new Muppets Collection, and I absolutely love this color!!! I am a huge fan of all things glitter and this is one of the BEST glitter polishes I have ever owned. I will definitely be purchasing the other glitters in this collection π
Hey Becky!
Wow, one of the best glitter polishes you’ve ever owned! π I’m soooooo happy that you love it so much because you’ll probably wear it more often. And the layering possibilities are endless!
You’re going to get all the other glitters in the collection, or did you have a few in mind?
I don’t like Rainbow Connection very much so I probably won’t get that on, but the others have such a vibrant color I really can’t resist getting them. As far as the reds/neutrals of the collection the only one I’m really interesed in is Warm and Fozzie, its such a unique color!
Warm & Fozzie was such a surprise for me because I don’t usually wear those kind of colours, but I fell in total love with that one!
I’ve also done a review of Gone Gonzo if you fancy a look :)! http://mldvs.blogspot.com/2011/12/opi-gone-gonzo.html xx
