Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight Swatches & Review

Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight Swatches & ReviewA few days ago, I found out that Orly got busy with Quo and had a nail-polish lovechild!

Do you know how excited I was when I saw that in my Shoppers Drug Mart flyer? *Holds arms apart as far as I can* That much!

On Friday, I rushed to the store to check out the display – I think there were 5 colours available. The purple and turquoise caught my eye, but I only picked up the latter, Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight to test it out. (I may go back for the purple. Still having an internal debate…but my ‘want’ usually wins.)

Although Swatch And Learn has waaaay more American visitors than Canadian visitors, being a Canadian myself, I had to share this amazing find with you all!

When it comes to formula and packaging, Orly is one of the polish brands I love. Quo is a brand that’s exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart and that’s easy for Canadians to get hold of. Enter Quo by Orly nail polish – it’s pure genius, and I’ve fallen in lust with this hue!

The brush looks short & stubby, but it’s a good length when you take into account the length of the rubberized handle.

Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight Ingredients

Note: Normally I would take a photo of the ingredient label, but this one was weird. The sticker at the bottom of the bottle was like a little ingredient booklet, which made it difficult to photograph properly. Plus I’d have to take several photos of each ‘page’ to be able to show you the comprehensive ingredient list. So I just typed it out to make it easier for you.

The ingredients for Turquoise Moonlight are as follows:

Ethyl Acetate, Butyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol/Trimellitic Anhydride Copolymer, Isopropyl Alcohol, Tosylamide/Epoxy Resin, Triphenyl Phosphate, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Propyl Acetate, Trimethyl Pentanyl Diisobutyrate, Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, N-Butyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Stearalkonium Bentonite, Mica, Tin Oxide, Alumina, Silica, Trimethylpentanediyl Dibenzoate, Benzophenone-1, Polyvinyl Butyral, Citric Acid, Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate.

May Contain: (+/-): CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride), CI 15850 (Red 6), CI 73360 (Red 30), CI 1588 (Red 34), CI 77491 (Red Iron Oxide), CI 77499 (Black Iron Oxide), CI 77492 (Yellow Iron Oxide), CI 77489 (Brown Iron Oxide), CI 15850 (Red 7), CI 77510 (Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide), CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 42090 (Blue 1), CI 60725 (Violet 2), CI 47005 (Yellow 10), CI 77000 (Aluminum Powder), CI 77007 (ultramarines), CI 77266 (Black 2), CI 77288 (Chromium Oxide Greens)

Claims: TRUSTED

√ Fast drying

? Long lasting (I’m currently on only Day 3 of this manicure, so I can’t comment on longevity. It didn’t chip at all during that time, though. And I plan to switch up my polish either today or tomorrow.)

Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight Review

Colour

What’s not to love? It’s a saturated turquoise that catches the light. In the sun, it sparkles like crazy, in the shade, it looks ‘pixel-ated’, and with flash, you can see the bluish undertone more clearly.

Are There Any Dupes?

You’re probably thinking, “I’ve seen this colour before!” And, yes, you have! It’s a more-pigmented dupe of OPI Catch Me in Your Net, Zoya Charla, and Orly Halley’s Comet. Also, with Turquoise Moonlight, the flakes are more rounded and they’re also finer.

My camera wasn’t able to accurately capture the colour despite me photographing the polish in various lighting. On me (in real life) it looks emerald green most times and occasionally turquoise with a hint of royal blue.

Since Turquoise Moonlight is more pigmented than and has finer (and round) flakes compared to OPI Catch Me in Your Net and Orly Halley’s Comet, I think that’s why it leans more green on me instead of more blue like the first 2 do. This may not be the same for you if you have a different skin tone and undertone. (I have yellow undertones.)

Even though Turquoise Moonlight is technically a dupe, I don’t think it takes away anything from the colour. I loved it when I wore the OPI and the Orly versions. Plus those 2 are harder to find now, especially for Canadians.

Finish

This has a divine super sparkly finish that is incredibly mesmerizing. It almost looks like densely packed glitter, but the pieces feel smooth on your nails and not gritty or chunky at all.

Even without a top coat, this dries shiny, but if you really want to protect your manicure and bring out the most bling, always use a top coat.

Application & Formula

Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight was very easy to work with. No dramatic diva here! It requires 2 coats to achieve full opacity. And the polish goes exactly where you paint it – no flooding your cuticle and no goopey paste to deal with.

Also worth noting is that this polish is Big-3-Free, meaning that it doesn’t contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP.

The formula dries fast enough for me. I waited about 15 minutes before I applied my usual quick-dry top coat to test the dry time. It wasn’t too tacky, so, in my experience, it’s safe to say that this polish doesn’t dry slowly.

Canadian Exclusive

For those who missed out on the OPI, Orly, or Zoya dupes, now is finally your chance to find it conveniently at your local Shoppers Drug Mart!

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the display I saw only offered 3 bottles of each colour, so if this is a shade that appeals to you, I suggest you head to the store ASAP because I have a feeling it’s a limited edition that won’t be re-stocked once it sells out.

Packaging

I like the cool fat rectangular bottle shape. Reminds me of the NYX polishes.

And since I love Orly’s rubberized handle, you know that I was so happy to see that Quo by Orly polishes come with rubberized handles, too! That means no struggling to open bottles or having to wrap an elastic band around the handle to crack it open.

The handle features a curved stripe pattern that helps with the grip, too. And the top of the handle features a “Q” in the same vein as Orly polishes featuring an “O” on top.

Brush

The brush isn’t as wide as a typical OPI brush, but it’s not skinny like Essie’s. It falls in the average category, and it works well to not only pick up the polish, but also apply it evenly. There weren’t any stray strands, so I was pleased about that.

Price & Value

At $10 CAD, it’s pricey for a drugstore nail polish. However, considering the easy accessibility, the incredible colour (that you don’t usually see at the drugstore), and the great formula, I think it’s worth the splurge!

They’ll eventually go on sale, but I have a strong feeling that by the time they do, you won’t be able to find this shade.

One thing to note is that while Orly polishes contain 18 mL of polish, Quo by Orly polishes contain 14 mL. I don’t mind it at all. It’s still very much worth it in my makeup book!

Pros

  • Gorgeous green/turquoise sparkly polish
  • Feels smooth, not gritty
  • Free of Formaldehyde, Toluene & DBP
  • Quo by Orly brand is exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart (which is great news for fellow Canadians!)
  • Dupe of a gorgeous, popular shade done by OPI, Orly & Zoya that Canadians may have had trouble tracking down previously
  • Extremely pigmented
  • Pulls more green than the OPI & Orly dupes if you have yellow undertones like I do
  • Rubberized handle makes it easy to open
Cons

  • Exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart & Canada (If you live outside, this will be hard to get unless you have friends in the country.)
  • On the expensive side for a drugstore polish
  • Polish display only offers 3 bottles of each shade, which means it may be tricky to find even for Canadians shortly

Final Verdict: 10/10

Haha, I think it’s pretty obvious that Quo by Orly Turquoise Moonlight swept me off my feet! πŸ˜€ I love the collaboration between Quo and Orly, and this is a colour that I think most people will also appreciate.

In the display I saw, someone already bought a bottle of this. And I only purchased one. Was thinking about snatching up the last one, but then I thought about how happy someone else would be to find this little gem (by accident, perhaps?), so I left it there. πŸ™‚

I’m thinking about going back for the purple one, though, since there were still all 3 bottles left in the display when I was last there.

Have you seen or tried any of the Quo by Orly nail polishes? Do you own the OPI, Zoya, or Orly dupes of this colour? Are you as excited about Quo teaming up with Orly as I was?

I love that you posted this!! I saw it in the flyer too, and I knew I had to get at least one. I haven’t had the chance to head out to Shoppers yet tho..I hope the one near me still has it in stock!

Also, not to be mean spirited but it kinda feels nice to have something exclusive to Canadians for a change. XD

      Hey Carmela!

Let me know after you snag one if you get this or the other colours. The purple was really sparkly, too! πŸ˜€

Yeah, I totally know what you mean – finally something for us. A lot of times, Canadians get the short end of the stick – there are so many limited-time polishes that would be easier to get if we were living in the States. Hehe, then I’d be really broke.

Hey, did you ever see or buy Sally Hansen Project Runway? It was a green polish that was also supposed to be exclusive to Canada, I think. I saw it once at Loblaws and put it back when someone convinced me to save my money. This was before I heard anything about that colour being a limited-edition exclusive polish. After I heard that, of course I went back, but it was too late – the bottle was gone!

I finally got my paws on these lovelies! I was a little disappointed by the display (which was tucked underneath the new make up line for fall :() altho I should probably be grateful since that meant there was more for the picking. πŸ˜‰

I chose the same one you have and the blue one with the purple duochrome, Celestial Star. The metallics looked too much like Orly Rage and Luxe that I’m willing to bet money that they’re dupes or repromotes. Looking at the Cosmic FX collection too, I’m fairly certain that Celestial Star is a dupe of Lunar Eclipse which I missed out on, I only got Space Cadet, so I’m more than happy to be the proud owner of these two. πŸ˜€ I might go back for the purple but the hubby didn’t seem to like it.. @_@

I’ve heard of SH Project Runway but I’ve never seen it anywhere! That sounds like what I did with Gosh Holographic. πŸ™ Boo us. Oh well, I guess they’ll just have to be “the ones that got away”..for now. πŸ˜‰

          Hey Carmela!

Nice – glad you were able to find it. It’s so weird how some displays are tucked away and hard to notice. But, it worked out well for you…and also the time when you got OPI It’s My Year! (I still think the only reason that colour was still left was because the display was practically on the ground.)

Good choice with Celestial Star. It definitely looked like an Orly Lunar Eclipse dupe to me. Very pretty.

Hmm…but I really hope that Quo by Orly comes out with colours that are unique to the new brand instead of just rehashing Orly colours (even if they ARE gorgeous). And I hope they go on sale because $10 for a drugstore polish is on the expensive side to me.

Why can’t Gosh Holographic and Sally Hansen Project Runway be tucked away, too, so we can find them by surprise one day? (I keep hoping even though those polishes are more than likely long gone.)

They are pretty pricey considering you can get Orly with 18mL for $7 at Sally Beauty. I can rationalize and justify the price tho just bec I did miss out on the Cosmic FX collection so I don’t mind as much. The other colors they have planned to be released should be originals tho and hopefully with a lower price considering it’s drugstore polish and less polish amount. Do you notice how much more expensive drugstore polish is at Shoppers tho?

I’ve been going to warehouse sales in hopes I stumble on them one of these days. πŸ™‚ Plus, I like how you can score $1 Borghese polish that normally retails for $8. πŸ˜€

The Orly Cosmic FX Collection was even more than regular Orlys, too. They were retailing for $10, but I saw a few places that sold them for less when the hype died down a little. That was the time I should’ve bought a Space Cadet back-up, but didn’t.

Yes, drugstore polish at Shoppers is ridiculous, especially since I’m used to getting discounted prices from etailers (I’m spoiled). Then again, I’m a little silly because while I don’t debate much if I buy OPI for $9.95 from Trade Secrets, I often take a long time deciding whether or not to buy polishes from Shoppers.

There was this fragrance outlet store I once went to that sold a lot of bargain items (but on a lot of crappy items). I didn’t think they’d have polish, but they actually had 2 large, heaping bins full of cheapy polishes. Most weren’t special, but I found a bottle of Sally Hansen Nail Prisms that was only $1! But…back in the day, I wasn’t aware of how special these are, so I just admired it and thought it looked nice, but then I chucked it back into the pile. Now even if I go back, I doubt I’ll find it. It’d be like finding a needle in a haystack!

      Hey Rachel!

Ooohhh…30 permanent shades and treatments? That’s fantastic! Although, I think I’ll wait for the permanent shades to go on sale…unless they come out with a flakie or some really different. OMG – can you imagine if they have a flakie as a permanent colour? *Squeals* Thanks for letting me know – I’m going to be so excited waiting for October 15th to come! Maybe Quo by Orly will also have some Hallowe’en polishes by then!

Hehe, I’m wearing this colour still today, too! Don’t want to take it off because it’s so pretty, but I’ll have to. Boo!

Hey, thanks for your comment on my post about this polish line πŸ™‚ Yes, they’ll have seasonal shades, which excited me. Good to know that this is more pigmented than its dupes. I might rethink the decision to bring mine back now, lol

No problem – I was as excited as you about the Quo/Orly collaboration and colours. πŸ™‚

Definitely keep Turquoise Moonlight! As for the other colours, I’m not sure if they’re more pigmented, but hopefully! Too bad Quo by Orly doesn’t have a dupe for Space Cadet yet. I have it, but I’d totally pick up the Quo by Orly one as a back-up.

Nice – looking forward to hearing what you think about the purple. I have Orly Galaxy Girl, which it’s supposed to be similar to. If you have that as well, could you please let me know how it compares? And hopefully the purple you got is as wonderfully pigmented as Turquoise Moonlight! πŸ˜€

I also saw this stuff in Shoppers on Saturday! I was SO EXCITED to see an Orly product in there – I bought the golden one (can’t recall the name) and it’s really pretty. Then, to my surprise, I found three ACTUAL ORLY ones in the clearance section, and the girl said they carried them all the time! Which, I’m sorry, is absolute rubbish, as I search and search for Orly. So doubly excited, huzzah!

The golden ones looked really pretty, too. Please let me know how you like yours after you wear it. πŸ™‚

Hmm…I’ve only seen actual Orly polishes sold at Shoppers a few times (maybe 3 times ever). Usually they’ll just carry a few colours, but the Shoppers near me never fully stock the core colours. It’s always just one collection’s display and usually it’s an old collection. Maybe yours will start carrying more! Lucky!

Glad that you love it, too! πŸ™‚ It’s one of my favourites to wear, so I’m cool that it’s a more-pigmented dupe of some other polishes.
