Even though I usually am disappointed by beauty products that claim to smell like cotton candy, I always get suckered into giving them a chance.
The Bonne Bell Lip Smacker Cotton Candy Lip Gloss is well known among teens and pre-teens.
When I was in grade school, all the cool girls had Bonne Bell Lip Smackers. It was the trendy lip gloss that came in so many different, yummy flavors. Kiwi and Bubblegum were my favorites. (I’m going to look for Kiwi the next time I’m at the store!)
Don’t think I ever tried the Cotton Candy one. Have you?
Shoppers Drug Mart was having a sale, and the last time I used any Lip Smackers was at the beginning of high school, so I thought I’d give it a shot for nostalgic reasons.
How did the formula stack up? Did it smell and/or taste like actual cotton candy? Did it provide a nice, glossy finish?
The answer’s just a few seconds away!

Bonne Bell Lip Smacker Cotton Candy Lip Gloss Review
Flavor & Scent
As much as I wanted it to blow me away, the cotton candy Lip Smacker lip gloss by Bonne Bell reminded me more of wax with a strange strawberry sweetness. Definitely didn’t smell or taste like the delicious, fluffy treat my dad used to buy me at summer carnivals.
Moisturization
On a positive note, the cotton candy Lip Smacker gloss did, indeed, make my lips feel really smooth, soft, and moisturized. Even after it wore off, my lips still felt good.
Lasting Power
As long as I didn’t eat or drink anything…or talk the ears off some unfortunate soul, this Bonne Bell lip gloss lasted approximately 2-3 hours.
Finish
The thing I really loved (and still love) about Bonne Bell Lip Smackers is that it’s not sticky at all. It goes on like a lip balm yet provides a natural-yet-glossy finish that makes your pout look pretty.
Packaging
Bonne Bell Lip Smackers comes in a no-nonsense, standard lip-balm tube. At the bottom, there’s a dial so you can twist to reveal more product. And at the top, there’s just a simple plastic cap that snaps shut snuggly.

Final Verdict: 7/10
Although the Bonne Bell Lip Smacker Cotton Candy Lip Gloss let me down big time in terms of flavor and scent, I’m still giving it a high score because it does an amazing job at moisturizing and smoothing lips. And it has lasting effects, which is impressive.
I’m going to comb through some more drugstores near me to look for the Kiwi flavor since I remember loving that one a lot!
What scent is your weakness? Which is your favorite Bonne Bell Lip Smacker Lip Gloss? Do you have any nostalgic beauty products?
I used to love Bonne Bell Lip Smackers!! I tried so many. My favorite was Dr. Pepper, which gave a nice red sheen and tased just like Dr. Pepper to me. In fact, I used Dr. Pepper longer than any others because I liked the color and was afraid of using ‘grown-up’ lipstick! I’ve gotten brave enough now to finally try lipstick and I don’t use Lip Smackers anymore, but I still enjoy shopping around for fun lipglosses.
Hey Jessica!
Oh yeah – I remember having the Dr. Pepper one, too! The funny thing, though, is that I never knew how accurate the flavour was since even to this day, I have never drank Dr. Pepper. (I’m probably the last person who hasn’t!)
One Christmas (when I was in grade school), my dad bought me this Bonne Bell reindeer piggy bank (it was a special Christmas collection) that had about 6 or so different Lip Smackers flavours. Heh…I actually still have (and use) that reindeer. It’s sitting on my counter right now, actually!
I love anything strawberry/cherry flavored. I used to go through tubes and tubes of the Chapstick ones all the way till university! 😛 I don’t think I’ve ever tried Bonne Bell tho. Out of curiosity, how does the moisturizing effect compare to the Jack Black one?
Hey Carmela!
Oh, there’s no competition. Jack Black wins by a landslide! It’s a heavy moisturizer that can not only bring your lips back to health, but also super-condition them. Bonne Bell is good for when your lips are slightly dry, but not excessively chapped (like in the winter).
Ha, this is awesome! I used to collect those like crazy! I remember when they came out with all these cosmic bonne bell products, all spacey and cool. I loved those. A couple years ago my boyfriend bought me some Christmas edition Lip Smackers (I used to looove those) at my request. He is so sweet!! ^-^
I also remember wearing the watermellon lip gloss when I went to see Titanic in theatres…wow, talk about nostalgic!
OOOh I also forgot! I LOVED those scented nail polishes that they came out with, my favorite was the chocolate mint one that was a light green with sparkles! Smelled soooo good!
I never even tried them. Maybe they’ll come out with it again if they haven’t already. Hmm…chocolate-mint-scented nail polish sounds pretty unique, actually!
Hey Ashley!
Ohhh right! Those cosmic ones – I forgot about them until you mentioned it! There was one I loved that smelled delicious. Too bad I can’t even remember the scent now.
Your boyfriend does sound like a sweetheart. That was really nice of him. 🙂
Ahahaa…Titanic. I still remember seeing that movie in the theater with my best friend in high school. Seems like such a long time ago. But I remember it clearly because an old woman was bawling her eyes out and she brought a box of tissues into the theater! Also, my best friend was obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio at the time. Oh, those were the days. 😛
