NYX Chaotic Dramatic Chromatic Eyeshadow Pigment Review & Swatches

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

What’s your favorite type of eyeshadow? For the longest time, I’ve avoided loose pigments just because I always thought they’d be super messy to apply. And being the careless klutz that I am, I always fear that I would topple the container and have powder flying all over my bathroom. I’m a Worry Wart – I think about stuff like that!

After trying NYX Dramatic Chromatic Eyeshadow Pigment, I’m a convert. It’s NYX, and it’s a blue eyeshadow, so of course I love it! The name “Dramatic Chromatic” doesn’t set itself up for failure. I think it really lives up to it and adds stunning and captivating color to my eyes.

Note: Swatch And Learn’s 1-year anniversary is coming up, and we’ll be hosting a giveaway to celebrate! This pigment is just one of many items Mary or I have purchased specifically to give away. Stay tuned for more information at a later time. 🙂

NYX Chrome Eyeshadow Pigment in Chaotic Review

Color

I mentioned in a previous post that blues are my absolute favorite to wear on my eyes. And NYX Chrome Eyeshadow Pigment in Chaotic is the Top Dog in my Favorite Blue List. It’s a medium-to-dark blue with shimmer. Just contrasts nicely with my browns, while the shimmer opens up the eyes for a brighter look.

Pigmentation

As you can see in the swatches NYX Chaotic Chrome Eyeshadow Pigment has good color payoff when worn on top of a primer. Without one though, the color is kind of faded. I also did a wet swatch, and you can really see how intense the color is.

And it blends really well without easily losing the beautiful blue color and shimmer that the shadow offers.

Staying Power

I didn’t test NYX Chaotic Chromatic Dramatic Eyeshadow Pigment without a primer. Loose pigments and mineral eyeshadows always crease on me without a primer, and I didn’t want to take that risk. On top of a primer, this color lasts me all through the night (and into the morning).

Application & Consistency

NYX Chaotic Dramatic Chromatic Eye Shadow Pigment is super finely milled. There was no clumping or lumping at all. There is no filter tray, and you really don’t need one. It goes on so, super, incredibly smoothly without any issues.

The container has a super-wide opening, so you can easily dip your brush into the powder if you need to. This means you don’t have to tip the jar to dump the product out if you need more, avoiding potential messes. I rarely even have to dip my brush into the container. What I do is shake the jar with the lid on and use whatever product is static-clinging on the lid. It’s really all I need.

Versatility

I really like this color because you can really wear it anywhere on your eyes. Put it on as the main attraction on the lid since the intense blue and shimmer will steal the show. Or work it into the crease to create dimension, which it can do because it’s dark enough.

You can also wear it wet. As you can see in the swatches, the color is intensified when worn wet.

    Pros
  • Finely milled
  • Goes on easily & evenly
  • Pigmented
  • Can be worn wet
  • Brand is cruelty-free
    Cons
  • Could possibly get messy

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

It’s true that loose pigments could get messy, but i think it also has a lot to do with how you’re applying it. I haven’t experienced issues with NYX Chaotic Chrome Loose Pigments so far!

Do you prefer pressed, loose pigments, mineral or cream shadows? What’s your favorite eyeshadow color to wear?

      Thanks, JC!

Seriously, right? I would test other shadows without primer, but I know pigments don’t stand a chance on my lids!

I love their pigments!!! And I do the same thing where you shake the container and just use what’s on the lid!! Elf’s mineral eyeshadows also have really good payoff, but their has a filter which ends up being kind of useless when you travel with it.

I love them, too! I actually have over 50+… yikes! I haven’t tried them all yet, but Chaotic is one of my faves!

OMG. I also love elf’s mineral shadows. Have too many of those as well. 😛 Which one is your favorite color?
