Lilacs are my favorite flowers – it’s a shame how their blooms don’t last long in the spring. And although there are lots of scents on the market that claim to be lilac-scented, I find that they always smell artificial and nauseating.
When I was a kid, my family and I planted a lilac tree in the backyard, which my bedroom overlooked. Throughout the years, the young tree matured and provided us with full and very fragrant lilac blossoms. The scent would waft up to my room, and it was pure heaven!
One year, we snipped off tons of lilac bunches and placed them all over the house. Although my mom got a headache from the floral overload, I just couldn’t get enough! And my cat at the time, Tiger, even was spotted taking the time to sniff the lilacs on occasion!
So when I found out about the Slatkin & Co. Lilac Blossom Candle sold at Bath & Body Works, I had to buy it and see if, for once, this was a genuine lilac fragrance.
Is it a lilac-lover’s dream? Does it smell fake and contrived? Let me tell you what I think!

Slatkin & Co. Lilac Blossom Candle Review
Usually I get the Bath & Body Works 3-wick candles, but at the time, only the 1-wick Lilac Blossom candle was available. I’m definitely going to pick up the 3-wick version because I love the scent so much!
If you’re not a fan of florals or of lilacs, steer clear of this. It’s as floral and lilacy as they come! But if you’re like me and can’t get enough of a true-lilac scent, you’ll be over the moon and into the starry sky!
Fragrance
The Bath & Body Works Lilac Blossom candle lives up to its name – it smells like the real deal! It’s not too overpowering, and it’s not too light. Totally brings back fond memories for me.
According to the Bath & Body Works website, this candle is supposed to be have “lilac blossom with lingering muguet, luscious heliotrope and sweet violet”. I’m not sure what muguet or heliotrope smell like, but all I know is that this candle smells like fresh lilacs!
I’ve heard some people say that this scent reminds them of funeral flowers! Strongly disagree! To me, lilies smell more like funeral flowers than lilacs. But to each their own.
And some people think that this scent is most suitable in the restroom. I can see that because it’s a light floral scent, and usually florals are used in the bathroom. But I wouldn’t restrict it there. I use this candle in my living room.
Scent Throw
Because I got the 1-wick Bath and Body Works Lilac Blossom candle instead of the 3-wick version, the scent throw is weaker. My living room is small, so I find the scent disperses nicely (and lightly). But I’m going to get the 3-wick candle because I’m a fan of a strong lilac scent.
The 1-wick candle is perfect for small spaces like a bedroom or the washroom. It’s also good for larger areas if you just want faint fragrance.
Packaging
The recyclable glass container has a simple-yet-elegant design, which I like. It suits any home decor – not too flashy and not too frumpy.
I especially like the lid because the underside has a rubbery seal. This means that when you cover the candle when not in use, the scent doesn’t leak as much as if you had a regular lid. It’s great if you’re like me and have too many candles than you want to admit – the fragrances don’t get jumbled together during storage.
Value
The lovely thing about Slatkin & Co. candles in general is that they burn for a long time without the wax going down. This gives you more bang for your buck!
I’ve been burning the Slatkin & Co. Lilac Blossom Scented Candle for over 3 hours straight, and the wax hardly went down!
Plus, as long as you burn a fresh 1-wick candle for at least 3 hours during the initial lighting (or until the wax melts from edge to edge), you’ll get even burning – that means no tunneling/canyoning. This is how you’ll get the most out of your candle. And also, be sure to trim your wicks to 1/4 of an inch before initial burning and before each re-lighting.
Seasonal Availability
Unfortunately, the Slatkin & Co. Lilac Blossom Scented Candle is only available around spring, just like the real deal. So when it’s out, make sure you stock up if you plan to enjoy this scent all year!

Final Verdict: 10/10
This is the first time I’ve ever come across a lilac fragrance that smelled genuinely like the real thing!
And because lilacs are my favorite flowers ever, this is a huge deal. I’m going to buy several 3-wick back-ups like a floral fiend because I plan to burn them all year long. This scent is very nostalgic for me!
Are you into florals, or do they give you a headache? What are some of your favorites?
Hey, just found your blog and I love it! This was a great review and I’m definitely going to check this candle fragrance out asap. I love most floral scents, especially with spring right around the corner 🙂 xoxo

Awww, thanks, Joann! Fiona and I work really hard on Swatch And Learn, so it’s nice to hear that you enjoyed visiting and found the candle review useful. When you do check out Lilac Blossom, be sure to come back and let me know what you think.
I’m on a candle kick – it’s hard to stop an inexpensive addiction! Do you have any recommendations for me? I’m on the lookout for some playful spring candles.
Thanks for sharing! I am not a lilac fan but my mom absolutely loves it! She has a big lilac bush at her house. I think this would be a perfect mothers day gift! 🙂

You’re very welcome, Amber! 🙂
Yes, since your mom likes lilacs, this would be an ideal gift because then she doesn’t have to wait until spring to enjoy the fragrance!
What color lilacs does your mom have? I’m a huge fan of the light-purple lilacs – very elegant-looking and they have a different smell than the lilac hybrids (although the hybrids are pretty cool to look at).
Hers are light purple, its huge! She has to trim it every year it is very fragrant when you have windows open, I think its all about the memories for her 🙂

She’s so lucky! My mom doesn’t have a lilac tree anymore, unfortunately. *Sniff sniff* Between the army of ants and all the squirrels digging up the roots, it didn’t stand a chance. But I’m glad we got to enjoy it for a few years.
Now whenever I smell lilacs, it totally takes me back to when I was a kid. Amazing how we commit some scents so strongly to memory!
I agree; the Lilac Blossom fragrance is the real thing!! I would stock up on the 3 wick candles when they were on sale; however, I was not aware they were discontiining the fragrance and I am sooo disappointed,. I wish they would put up a listing in the stores when they are going to discontunue a fragrance. The same thing happened years ago when they had the Daffodil fragrance.
Hey liz!
Oh, I didn’t know they’re going to discontinue it altogether! I thought that it’ll be brought back in the spring like before. Aww…I really hope they’re not getting rid of it. The fragrance was spot on!
Daffodil candle? I never smelled it, but that sounds very unique.
