e.l.f. Essentials Mint Cream Nail Polish Review & Swatches

One of my favorite ice-cream flavors is mint chocolate chip. Something about the crisp mintiness with the crunchy chocolate chips mixed with the cold and soft ice cream… OMG, I just made myself crave some right now.

That green coloring is exactly what e.l.f. Essentials Mint Cream Nail Polish reminds me of! But while I like mint-flavored ice cream, this mint-colored polish doesn’t make me drool. I’m usually more into saturated shades, so Mint Cream leaves me a little out in the cold. It’s not that the shade isn’t unique – it’s not a color you see every day – but it’s just not my cup of tea.

elf Mint Cream Review

Color

Color preference is very subjective, but I think it’s even more so with elf Mint Cream. It’s going to be either you really like it or you don’t. To me, the shade looks too stark, and that’s why I don’t like it very much. Again, a personal thing.

I will say this though: the mint green looks very refreshing and spring-like, perfect for the season that’s coming up!

Consistency & Application

The consistency of e.l.f. Mint Cream is very smooth, and you won’t experience any tacky, clumpy formula. It applies evenly without much of an issue, and it dries fairly quickly. Wait about 7 minutes before applying another coat or a top coat. If you do it too soon, it will kind of bubble up.

Opacity

Kinda disappointed in this. It’s very sheer! Three coats are a must with elf Essentials Mint Cream, and you might even need a fourth coat to get out all the sheer spots. Add a top coat and a base coat to that, and that’s a whollllllle lotta coats!

Finish

I’m wearing one hand with a top coat and another without right now, and I can honestly tell you that there isn’t a huge difference between them. Mint Cream by elf definitely has a glossy finish that shines brilliantly on its own.

    Pros
  • Good consistency
  • Affordable
  • Infused with vitamin E
  • Free of DBP, formaldehyde, toluene
  • Refreshing spring-time color
    Cons

  • Needs at least 3 coats
  • Can bubble up if you apply another coat too soon

Final Verdict: 7.2/10

Not my favorite shade, but I can definitely see the appeal in this. As for the quality and value, well, elf has yet to disappoint me when it comes to their nail polishes.

What do you think of this color? Do you have a shade you love to wear during spring?

I often buy from Elf, but I don’t have a nail polish yet!
I like this colour though, it reminds me of a lighter For Audrey (from China Glaze).

I buy from Elf a lot, too, especially since they always have up to 50% off sales. :O!

Which nail colors would you want to get?
