China Glaze Adventure Red-y Swatches & Review

China Glaze Aventure Red-y Swatches & ReviewChina Glaze Adventure Red-y is a classic red creme polish from the China Glaze On Safari Collection.

It isn’t the most unique or special, but the ease of application thanks to the great formula should win some points!

You know, even though I tend to reach more for my greens, purples, and blues, there are days when I crave a sexy red. It’s sharp and traditional.

Do you ever feel the same way and get a craving seemingly out of nowhere to sport a red polish?

China Glaze Adventure Red-y Review

Colour

Adventure Red-y by China Glaze is a sexy, bold red that I feel pretty much anyone can pull off because it’s not too orange or too dark. It’s just right!

The colour shown in my flash photos are the most accurate. What you see in the sunlight photos are washed out due to the really strong and very yellow sun. The actual shade isn’t so orange or muted – this is definitely a strong and true red.

Finish

It has a creme formula, so there aren’t any bells and whistles. It’s simple and straight-forward, which makes it a good choice if you’re looking for a base polish for nail art.

Application & Formula

Application was easy peasy because the formula isn’t too thick or too thin. You can control where it goes.

It’s very pigmented, so even with a single coat, you get a lot of coverage. Then with a second coat, you get full opacity.

Pros

  • Classic, bold red
  • Creme finish is great to use as a nail-art base
  • Pigmented formula that’s easy-to-control
Cons

  • Not a unique shade

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

Despite this red being generic, it’s the great formula that makes it a great choice. Most of us who are into nail polish probably already have a good red, but if you’re just starting out and are looking for one, I think you’ll like this one.

When do you reach for a red nail polish? Was red the first colour you ever wore on your nails? (My first nail polish was a frosty beige – it was my mom’s and I was in elementary school.)

      Hey Sonya!

It’s as though Red is saying, “Hey, don’t forget about me! I know you want me!” when we ‘stray’. 😉 It has a hold on us…hehe!

It’s funny, even though red is one of my favourite colours to wear, I don’t wear it that much! I agree that it’s a colour one can go for months without wearing, but then suddenly one day I will just need to have red on my nails!

      Hey Amanda!

Do you mean just on your nails or in general you don’t wear much red?

My favourites are green and purple. I only have some green clothes. Much more purple clothing. But I think the only reason is because there are more styles available in purple.

        I meant my nails:)

But as for clothing, I’m like you, purple and green are two colours I wear a lot! Having red hair, I find not every colour works on me, but purple and green (especially) are nice.

    Hey Mary,

This red isn’t quite unique but I still like it. I don’t usually wear red or dark colors because they don’t compliment my skin tone but on other people it looks gorgeuos (meaning you!).

    P.S. How’s your summer??

      Hey maddy!

Really? But I feel like this shade of red could work on so many different skin tones!

My summer’s going great so far – keeping really busy and meeting a lot of new people. 🙂 How about you? It’s been a while. What’s new with you?

Well, I spend most of my summer outside with friends and family. We went camping for about a week and that was fun. Also, I’ve been going to Wonderland with friends. Love their funnel cake!

Mmm…now you have me craving funnel cake. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Wonderland…probably 8 years or so!

Normally I would not have picked this one up – I have soooo many reds. Used to be about all I wore were reds and pinks in the 90’s. When I cleaned out my collection, I pitched all but my fav fuchsia/magenta and also kept all my good brand reds. I still have all of ’em today…so it’s rare I fall for another red unless it’s a new finish. But when I heard how great the formula was on this one had to have it. And wow! It’s opaque on the 1st coat but I use 2 out of habit. It self levels perfect – never any balding putting it on – just amazing. I am going to go through all my reds in this hue and pitch most of ’em that are really old now (talking some 20+ yrs old) because I know I won’t wear them now that I have this one.

      Hey beachgal!

I totally get how you feel. It takes a truly special red to get my attention now, too. Seems like every single company puts out generic reds. But a great formula is enough to make me take note, even if the shade isn’t completely original. 🙂

When you say that you pitched them, I hope you meant that you gave them to your friends or family! I bet a lot of people would be thrilled to benefit from those polishes. 🙂

This is actually my kind of red! I like them more sedate instead of in your face. 😉 But I have waaaay too many reds (surprisingly) as it is so unless I go through a whole bottle of at least one, I doubt I’d reach for this. Very pretty on you, though! 😀

The first nail polish I ever wore was a shimmery dark purple from the Maybelline Fast Dry line. I never forgot because I first painted my nails on my parents’ bed (because they had a tv in their room and my brothers we hogging the one in the den) and accidentally spilled about half of the bottle on the sheets. Moral of the story: never paint your nails on a bed. Haha! 😛

      Hey Carmela!

Oh, but this one is still in your face! But it’s more classy and less trashy. 😉 When it comes to a good red, I have to say that I love both kinds.

WOW…spilled polish on bedsheets? That sounds awful! Did your parents get upset? How long did it take for the fumes to clear out?
