Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection Review & Swatches

Urban Decay 24-7 Glide-on Eye Pencils 15-Year Anniversary Collection Review I’ve had the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection on my wishlist shortly after it came out. And I’ve been testing them out for months.

If you know me, you know that a day without eyeliner is like a day without sunshine. Eyeliner makes me feel put-together. When I don’t wear it, something feels ‘off’.

Urban Decay 24-7 eyeliners hold Holy-Grail status for me, and I consider them must-haves for any make-up lover’s collection.

Find out why!

The sharpener was a bad model. She complained all day during the photoshoot & finally stormed off the set like a diva saying that she's better than this.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils 15 Year Anniversary Collection Review

If you’ve been following this blog since we started it, you’ll know that I absolutely adore the Maybelline EyeStudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner. In fact, it was the very first product I ever reviewed on Swatch And Learn! To this day, I still wear it and recommend it.

But I was still on the lookout for a good pencil liner that I could use on my lower lashline. That’s where the incredible Urban Decay 24-7 Glide on eyeliners sashay in.

Available Colors

What I love about Urban Decay Cosmetics is that they put out eyeliners in all the colors of the rainbow. You’ll find your standard black, but also vivid blue, mossy green, smokey gray, shimmery beige, and more. And if you buy this collector’s set, you can pull off any look from sweet and natural to sexy and fierce!

In this collector’s set, you get 6 new colors in addition to the colors normally offered by Urban Decay. You get a total of 15 eyeliners.

After swatching them all, here are my color descriptions for each:

  • Stray Dog – Dusty taupe. Grayish brown with shimmery silver flecks (New color)
  • Corrupt – Dark brown with copper flecks (New color)
  • Bourbon – Auburn with copper flecks
  • Midnight Cowboy – Champagne with champagne flecks (New color)
  • Baked – Shimmery bronze
  • Stash – Greenish brown. Antique brown with shimmery gold flecks
  • Mildew – Deep shimmery green
  • Perversion – Matte jet black (New color)
  • Electric – Bright shimmery ocean blue with silver flecks
  • Binge – Deep blue-based purple with pink & gold flecks
  • Ransom – Pinkish purple (texture was patchy)
  • Asphyxia – Pink ultraviolet with purple lavender flecks (New color)
  • Rockstar – Burgundy brown with subtle shimmer
  • Zero – Matte black
  • Uzi – Shimmery steel gray with gold & silver flecks (New color)

Application & Color Payoff

For those days when you need to get ready quickly or don’t want to dirty up a brush applying gel liner, Urban Decay pencil eyeliners are the way to go!

They apply smoothly and don’t tug on your lid at all. You also don’t need to go over the same section multiple times to get vivid color with most of the hues. (Asphyxia and Ransom applied very patchy, however, and were much sheerer than I’ve come to expect from Urban Decay eyeliners.)

Lasting Power

I applied eyeliner to my upper and lower eyelids in the morning and checked it when I got home late at night after hanging out with some friends. It was a very long day, and I didn’t touch-up.

(In fact, the only makeup I ever touch-up throughout the day ever is lip gloss, lipstick, or lip balm. Other than that, I expect my makeup to last all day until I take it off.)

With all the other pencil eyeliners I’ve tried in the past (such as CoverGirl Perfect Point Eyeliner), they’d be smudged by now or faded. This wasn’t the case with the Urban Decay 24 7 eyeliners! To my surprise, they looked almost as if I had just put it on, and the colors were still vibrant.

When I was swatching it on my arm, I tested out the lasting power by rubbing my fingers over the swatches probably 20 times hard and fast. As long as you wait 30 seconds after application, these babies barely smudge. Really impressed!

Even when I ran my arm under running water, the liners stayed put. So unless you’re watching a movie that makes you bawl your eyes out (like Awakenings!) while you’re also rubbing your eyes like a crazy person, then I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Price

Ninety-two dollars is a lot to blow all at once on eyeliners. But when you do the math, it’s actually quite a reasonable price per pencil – about $6.13 USD. Factor in the limited-edition packaging, 6 new-to-the-set colors, and a bonus sharpener, and you’ve got a bargain that’s irresistible!

Think of the high initial price tag as an investment. Once you have the Urban Decay anniversary set, chances are you won’t be looking for new colors for a while. You’ve got staple colors and wild hues to keep you entertained and creative.

Collectible Packaging

The box comes with a clear plastic sleeve. On the back, you’ll find the ingredients as well as the Urban Decay story. It talks about how back in the 1990s, Urban Decay came out with 12 nail polishes and 10 lipsticks. Their mission was to create products that exemplified alternative beauty. They wanted women to be able to express their uniqueness instead of being part of the herd.

When you slide out the box, it’s so flashy! The box has the Urban Decay logo tiled all over in various colors, and the background is a highly-reflective silver that made photographing it well a bit difficult.

Inside, you have the product shrink-wrapped.  The 15 pencils are lined up nicely on their display ‘bed’ that has a faux-velvet texture. You’ll also find the Urban Decay Grind House pencil sharpener on the bottom left.

The pencils and sharpener say “UD15” to pay tribute to Urban Decay’s 15th anniversary.

Pencils

With the exception of Perversion, each Urban Decay 24-7 eyeliner has a silver base and a silver cap. They’re very pretty to look at, and they have a nice weight in your hand.

These eyeliners are very soft and easy to work with. Hands down the best pencil eyeliners I have ever tried!

Makeup Removal

These waterproof eyeliners don’t budge or smudge, so don’t expect that you can just wipe them off with water at the end of the day! I use the Clean & Clear Soothing Eye Makeup Remover because it’s heavy-duty enough to remove waterproof eyeliner, but it’s very gentle on my skin – no tugging needed and the makeup comes off quickly.

Urban Decay Grind House Pencil Sharpener

It shaved off just the right amount without wasting a lot of product, which scores points with me. And it has 2 holes – one for your Urban Decay 24/7 liners and another hole for large pencils (like your NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils).

I also like how the top is clear so you can see when it’s almost full of shavings and needs to be emptied.

Smell

Okay, so you might be thinking that fragrance is a weird thing to review when it comes to eyeliners. But there has been a lot of talk online about how people bought their Urban Decay anniversary set and it smelled weird.

When I got mine, I also noticed a distinctive smell that wasn’t pleasant, but it also wasn’t unpleasant. It was just unusual because usually eyeliners don’t smell like anything.

It wasn’t the actual product that smelled, but the packaging. So I took everything out of the box and put the pencils in a cup. After letting it air out for about a week, the smell faded significantly, so it’s not a big deal to me anymore.

I also ended up throwing away the box because it had that smell. (Hehe, you’re probably thinking I’m crazy because I threw away collectible packaging. Yes, I am crazy…but only because I bought two sets – the other one is my back-up, so I’ll be keeping that box. I store it with my Slatkin & Co. candles, so the candles drown out the weird smell of the pencils.)

The Battle of the Blacks: Zero vs. Perversion

I was most excited to test-drive Urban Decay Perversion because the company claimed how it was blacker than Zero, and Zero is pretty black already.

Ladies (and gentlemen who wear eyeliner), I’m pleased to report that the claim is true! Perversion is noticeably blacker than Zero. Jet black. Ooohhh, I’m in love! (But don’t worry, Zero, we’ll still see a lot of each other.)

    Pros

  • Great value – large color selection for a reasonable price per unit
  • Contains 6 new shades
  • Includes a lot of ‘everyday-suitable’ colors & a couple of ‘bright & fun’ colors
  • Eyeliners are waterproof & smudge-proof
  • Most colors are highly pigmented
  • Creamy consistency
  • Collectible packaging
  • Comes with a pencil sharpener with 2 different-sized holes
  • No Bismuth Oxychloride (a known allergen & what I’m allergic to in eye products)
    Cons

  • Expensive when you drop this much all at once (but it’s a great value)
  • My set had a weird smell initially (aired it out & it’s okay now)
  • Limited-edition set (once it’s gone, it’s gone…but you can buy some of the colors individually at $18 USD a pop)
  • 2 of the 15 colors went on patchy & sheerer than is typical of Urban Decay eyeliners

Final Verdict: 10/10

If wearing eyeliner is part of your everyday makeup routine, you need this! Even if you can’t get your hands on the limited-edition anniversary collection, I urge you to try any of the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on pencils (except Asphyxia and Ransom, which were patchy). The rest are highly pigmented, don’t tug on your skin, and last all day and into the night!

What color eyeliner do you wear the most? Which is your favorite color from this Urban Decay anniversary set? What other Urban Decay products do you swear by?

      Hey Nivedita!

Yes, took less than 5 minutes to convince myself to get it. And since I bought it months ago, I’m still getting a lot of use out of it.

Took a surprisingly strong liking to Bourbon (hehe, make all the jokes about this as you’d like). Normally I wear black or green eyeliner, but there was something about this auburn with copper flecks that added that something extra. For a while, I was neglecting my black eyeliner in favor of Bourbon!

Hi! Great review! I took the plunge last week and bought these! Now I’m just trying to get creative without them. I’m pretty new to makeup, just wondering, would you be willing to do a tutorial on the different ways to use these eyeliners (aside from just lining the eye with a simple line) how can I utilize the different colors? Thanks so much! Have a wonderful day!

      Hey Alex!

Thanks – glad you found it useful. 🙂

That’s a very interesting idea for a post. I’d want to see someone do something like that, too. (If any Swatch And Learn readers out there have any ideas, please feel free to chime in!).

I just use these Urban Decay eyeliners to line my eyes conventionally. And sometimes I’ll take Midnight Cowboy (the champagne color) and line along the inner tear duct to brighten up my eyes. If I can think up new and creative ways to use these pencils other than as eyeliners, I’ll put together a post.

I recently bought Zero and it doesn’t stay on my water line at all. I swatched it on the back of my hand and rubbed it after more than 30 seconds and it easily rubbed off. I was really hoping Urban Decay eye pencils would work for me but they don’t. I’ve read/watched so many raves about it and it didn’t live up to it’s expectations. Do you think Perversion will be better than Zero?

      Hey Sana!

Aww…it’s too bad it didn’t work out for you. These pencils last the longest on me, and I love them! Although I don’t use them mainly for the waterline…hehe, because nothing lasts on mine. I like using them for my upper and lower lashlines.

Perversion wears exactly the same for me as Zero. The only difference is that Perversion is much blacker in pigmentation than Zero.

Hope you find a liner that works better for you!

Hi! I just wanna know if this box is still on the Market, like, if we can find leftovers in Sephora, for an example.

      Hey Jamile!

Unfortunately it isn’t for sale at Sephora anymore. It was a limited-edition set, and after it sold out, they didn’t replenish their stock. I highly doubt if they’d be available at any Sephora stores still. Sorry!

The good thing is that Urban Decay tends to put together great pencil sets and limited-edition sets around Christmas. They might have something similar this year if you wait.

I realize that this is a really old post from like over 2 years ago but, I came across this, and this is a very good review! I didn’t get into Urban Decay until about a month ago, but I must say you’re really making me interested in getting Perversion 🙂

Oh, and, I’m not sure but I’m wondering if you might have gotten a bad pencil (Ransom) because you said that it came of sheerer and patchy, but I’ve never had a problem with it, It’s actually one of my favorites 🙂

Anyways, that was just a thought. Thanks for the in depth review (even though I saw this 2 years later) 🙂

      Hey Erica!

No problem! I read all comments, and it doesn’t matter if they’re on older posts. 🙂 I’m very grateful that you’ve not only taken the time to read my post, but also to interact with me and give me feedback.

Glad that you found this review to be helpful!

Perversion is the blackest pencil eye liner I own, but I haven’t tried the Maybelline one from the Master Drama line (or whatever it’s called).
