e.l.f. Passionate Purple Pigment Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Ever since I gave in and purchased my first elf Cosmetics product, I’ve been on a mission. This line is so affordable that it has me in jaw-dropped disbelief, and I want to find out how much product quality is sacrificed for a low price tag.

A lot of the products are quite hit and miss, brushes especially. I’m in love with most of their nail polishes, and some of their mineral eyeshadows have my approval and some with disapproval. This is the first time I’ve tried their pigmented shadows. And since there weren’t a lot of colors to choose from, I went with a trusty purple.

Is e.l.f. Passionate Purple Pigment Eyeshadow a hit or a miss? Find out! Continue reading

e.l.f. Essentials Berry Pink Nail Polish Review & Swatches

I don’t own many pinks in my nail polish collection. It’s because purples and greens are like shiny things to me. Once I see them, I get distracted. Which is why I was surprised that e.l.f. Essentials Berry Pink Nail Polish caught my eye. I’m not used to wearing pinks on my nails, but I think I like it. I think. Sort of.

Is it just me, or does e.l.f. Berry Pink remind you of Barbie, too? Y’know, the color that the name is written in? Maybe that’s why I’m hesitating to like it. Barbie isn’t really my thing. I remember playing with the dolls, the clothing and shoes when I was younger. I even had a Barbie motorcycle. But when I grew up, I remember thinking she lives in such excess and discarded her. e.l.f. Essentials Burgundy Nail Polish Review & Swatches

Dear elf Cosmetics,

Thank you for creating quality nail polishes that are affordable and easy to wear, such as the e.l.f. Essentials Burgundy Nail Polish. Please do not be offended by this: I think the color-name giver of your company may need his or her eyes checked. (Or perhaps the burgundy taken away.)

This color is not burgundy. It does not have enough of a bruised-red or purplish undertone for it to be burgundy. It is a reddish brown with a dose of orange that reminds me of Thanksgiving. Albeit a nice color in its own right, it does not give me the intoxicating feel that burgundy does. I am sober and disappointed.

Yours truly,

Not Drunk on Burgundy Continue reading

e.l.f. Essentials Mint Cream Nail Polish Review & Swatches

One of my favorite ice-cream flavors is mint chocolate chip. Something about the crisp mintiness with the crunchy chocolate chips mixed with the cold and soft ice cream… OMG, I just made myself crave some right now.

That green coloring is exactly what e.l.f. Essentials Mint Cream Nail Polish reminds me of! But while I like mint-flavored ice cream, this mint-colored polish doesn’t make me drool. I’m usually more into saturated shades, so Mint Cream leaves me a little out in the cold. It’s not that the shade isn’t unique – it’s not a color you see every day – but it’s just not my cup of tea. e.l.f. Essentials Medium Red Nail Polish Review & Swatches

Every gal and guy should have a little red in her/his life – it’s the color of passion and fun! And that’s just exactly what the color of e.l.f. Essentials Medium Red Nail Polish is. This red can go from girl-who-just-wants-to-have-fun look to a woman-out-to-dominate-the-world shade. It all depends on what you wear it with.

It’s funny how a little color on your nails can pick you up. I’ve been a Debbie Downer, Party Pooper and Moody Molly lately, and as soon as I sweep on a catch-my-eye nail color, it seems to bring a smile to my face. It’s no longer-term therapy, but it’s an instant smile aggregator that lasts a little bit. Continue reading

e.l.f. Girly Mineral Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Meh. If there ever was a word to describe e.l.f. Girly Mineral Eyeshadow, that’s what I would use. I’ve tried hard to like this color – really, I tried! But it just doesn’t do it for me. It’s a dusty mauve purple that is super dull, IMO. Plus, I don’t like the name “Girly” – why assign a gender to a color or a characteristic?

Anyway, it’s not just the shade I don’t like. Everything else about this eyeshadow gets a barely passing C- grade from me. Come see more. Continue reading
