Lately I’ve been watching reruns of Felicity, the TV show that was popular in the 1990s.
Oddly, I wasn’t a fan of it when it was running on TV. And even stranger is that my father was the one who got me into it.
(No, I’m not joking. And, no, my father wasn’t always a softie. He loved his action shows, but he could also appreciate something like Felicity. Now when I watch the show, I think of him, which brings a smile to my face.)
In this Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’m going to share my thoughts with you on some of the major Felicity TV Show characters for a bit of nostalgia that I think will be fun.
Felicity Porter (Keri Russell)
She’s the star of the show who always seems to be crying in nearly every single episode. (You could probably turn it into a drinking game.) She analyzes everything, finds meaning everywhere, and is a loyal friend.
What I like the most about Felicity is that she wears her heart on her sleeve and does what she feels is right even if the decision is extremely hard to follow through with. That takes strength and courage to stand up for what you believe in, even though it’s difficult.

Ben Covington (Scott Speedman)
*Sigh* He’s so hot…obviously! But Ben also is very romantic and sweet. What I liked about him was that even though he wasn’t book smart (at least at the beginning of the series), he was very intuitive and great at reading people’s emotions.
I felt like Felicity and Ben were truly meant to be together because of their emotional connection.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Noel Crane (Scott Foley)
This character really annoyed me. And I pitied him because he usually ended up being the chump in a situation. It seemed like he rarely got a break. And the thing is he was a loyal friend who usually did the right thing in difficult situations. I respect his character, but it bothered me how he was often repressed and wasn’t as assertive as he needed to be.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Javier Clemente Quintata (Ian Gomez)
Javier was Felicity and Ben’s manager at Dean & DeLuca. I LOVE this character because he’s always so bubbly and has over-the-top silly gestures and comments.
Plus I think that the actor who plays him is extremely talented. I totally believed that he was a flamboyant gay guy in real life. When I heard the actor in an interview, even his voice was different. I was shocked…and I missed Javier. Hehe, I liked seeing him as Javier more than as just another actor.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman)
I had a girl crush on Meghan. She was Felicity’s strange, gothic, rude roommate in the beginning of the show. I loved how sarcastic and mean she was. She’d say the wrong thing at the wrong time, and she would rarely apologize for her actions and their negative consequences.
Out of all the characters on the show, Meghan was the most dynamic in terms of development. She did a complete 180 degree change and matured so much. However, I really missed her gothic clothing and freaky earrings when she changed her wardrobe to look classier.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Sean Blumberg (Greg Grunberg)
Sean was the hopeful entrepreneur with tons of ideas that he was praying would strike gold.
I loved his sense of humour, his willingness to try to invent new things, and how he was such an over-the-top capitalist!
But more importantly, he was such a great friend with a huge heart, and he saw the good in a lot of people. In addition to Ben Covington, I had a huge crush on Sean.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Elena Tyler (Tangi Miller)
Elena was one of my least favourites on the show because she was so anally retentive! She was ruthless when it came to her studies, and she was blunt to the point of being rude (without being funny).
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Julie Emrick (Amy Jo Johnson)
Julie was my least favourite character on the show because I couldn’t connect with her on any level. Not only was her fashion sense really immature for a college student, but so was her general attitude. I felt like her character was very weak.

Did you watch Felicity when it was on TV? Who was your favourite character? Who was your least favourite character? Why?
Hey Mary,
Loved this blast from the past post! Felicity is one of those shows that probably ranks in my top 10 shows ever! I absolutely loved it! I’m with you on all of your character analysis, Havier was my fave too! I miss shows like this!
Thanks that was great..
Hey Lauren!
The chemistry that the characters had on the show is pretty rare. The only other show I can think of that I really loved and the characters all had strong chemistry like this is Gilmore Girls.
i have reruns of felicity, but my favorite rerun is dawson’s creek..! the thing is that i cannot catch any of them, felicity runs at 4pm and dawson’s at 5pm.. and it takes me more than an hour to get home from work!!
i liked havier too, i find his character in cougar town SOOO stupid and agreed that Havier was so fun!!
I didn’t like Julie and Elena neither.. find them too plain..
And Noel, ohh poor noel, always being left by the main character in every show he makes an appearance and when he finally gets the girl, he dies of a heart attack.. poor thing ..

Hey maria emma!
You know what? I’ve only ever seen one full episode of Dawson’s Creek, but I’ve been meaning to try to watch some re-runs in case I like it.
I’ve also never seen ‘Havier’ on Cougar Town. And after you mentioned how terrible his character is on it, I don’t want to see it because it would taint my perception of Havier!
And apparently Scott Foley (‘Noel’) was originally going to be cast to play the role of Ben Covington, but then Scott Speedman stole the part away from him. Haha, so even in real life, he was a chump. Feel terrible for him…
Hi, Mary.
I am sorta new here, but I have a question. See, tomorrow is my birthday, and I need an easy-to-find (In Canada) beautiful deep green polish. I completely forgot untill now. Any recomendations?
Hey Margaret!
Welcome to Swatch And Learn! 🙂 And a happy early birthday to you!
Hmm…that’s a good question. A lot of people seem to like Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Jumpin’ Jade, which can be found at some drugstores. I’ve never tried it, though. Sally Hansen also has a deep green in their Xtreme Wear line called Emerald City. Also, Nina Ultra Pro has a deep green called Emerald Green, and it should be part of the core collection at Sally Beauty Supply and easy to find.
Wow, I never realized until now that most of my deep green polishes are by China Glaze! (I didn’t recommend any of them, though, because China Glaze can be tricky to find in Canada. Sally Beauty Supply carries some from the core collection, but there aren’t many store locations in Canada.)
If you CAN swing by Sally Beauty Supply, maybe call them first and ask if they have Emerald Sparkle in stock. It was seasonal when it came out, but I think I’ve seen it at some stores a few times. Glittering Garland is another beauty, but I think that won’t be at Sally Beauty Supply.
oh my gosh, I loved Felicity!!! I even downloaded that song “New Version of You” for my i-Pod!!!
And I loved Javier!! wow, I didn’t know he’s not gay in real life, just found that out from you!! What a great actor!! And I loved Meghan.. but really didn’t like Ben!! or Julie.. bleh… but I liked Elena!! haha seems we have different tastes =))

Hey Gosia!
Did you like New Version of You better than the original theme song? Haha, the original melody was so melodramatic and suited the show. The message from New Version of You really suits the show.
Oops…I went back to edit this post. I accidentally wrote his name as “Havier”. I fixed it so now it’s “Javier”. D’oh! 🙂
Oh, man did I luv Felicity!!!! And Ben…Oh, Ben…he was so cute!! That was the first time I remember ever seeing Jennifer Garner on anything. And I remember it being weird how Keri Russell was so famous and Jennifer had only a small role and wasn’t very famous. Then after Felicity she became so much more famous than Keri.
Hey JKPP!
Actually, now that you mention it, same here. I can’t remember seeing Jennifer Garner elsewhere before her appearance as Hannah on Felicity!
Oh, and the same thing happened to Scott Foley. Before he was the famous one when he dated Jennifer Garner. But then Jennifer Garner rose to fame and you don’t hear much about Scott Foley.
I really loved Felicity. I remember that I was addicted to it and watched the first season religiously. I left for school to Paris for one year and completely missed the second season. I was so bummed! I made my friends call me and tell me if Felicity went with Noel!!! lol
There is another show that loved but it didn’t last long: Relativity. Have you ever heard of it?

Hey Cynthia!
Hehe, so were you happy with Felicity’s decision, or were you disappointed? I literally squealed for joy when they revealed who she went with. 🙂 He’d be my choice, too. 😉 *Happy sigh*
Hmm…the name sounds familiar, but I don’t think I ever watched Relativity.
