I think you can tell by now that I love Slatkin & Co. candles! 😉 And I’m pretty big on food fragrances. The more realistic the scent, the more I burn it.
Quite some time ago, I purchased the Slatkin & Co. Gingerbread Candle from Bath & Body Works during one of their awesome sales. (Their candles always go on sale, so I can never justify ever paying the retail price.)
Some people may have been disappointed with this because it’s not strong like fresh gingerbread, but I absolutely love it! It smells more like a ginger cookie to me, so it gets the thumbs up from me.
Plus the packaging is extra special, but I’ll get into that in my review.

Slatkin & Co. Gingerbread Candle Review
Fragrance
Hold onto your wax, ladies! This is a candle that makes me want to bake cookies – ginger cookies, to be exact! You get the spiciness of the ginger very clearly, but it isn’t sharp. I love how the sugar and vanilla blend in and soften the ginger.
When I smell this, I don’t think of gingerbread, which would be a stronger scent. But I’m not disappointed at all because I really enjoy the scent, and it’s ginger-y enough for me. It’s more like a ginger cookie.
The Slatkin & Co. Gingerbread scented candle is one of those candles that if someone didn’t know you were burning it, they’d think that you have something yummy in the kitchen!
If you’re looking for a bakery-type scented candle that’s different than Slatkin & Co.’s usual offerings, this is the one I’d recommend you try.
Scent Throw
After burning the Gingerbread candle by Slatkin & Co. for just a few minutes, I could already detect the fragrance in the air! It has great scent throw – not too strong, but not faint at all. It’s of moderate strength, and it’s the type of throw that’s cozy and not intrusive.
Burning
During my initial use, the wicks started out strong and then gradually the flames got weaker (but didn’t extinguish themselves) after a couple of hours. After my subsequent uses and regular wick trimmings between uses, the flames were consistently strong.
I’m very pleased with its performance because as with most Slatkin & Co. candles, the wax burned evenly, so there’s no wasted wax. You get your money’s worth.
Seasonal Availability
It’s a new holiday fragrance for this year, so there’s a chance that it may not be brought back next year. If you’re curious about trying it, you should purchase it before the holidays or you may miss out.
Packaging
The label on this one is a little different than that on most candles by Slatkin & Co. It features this cool holographic effect that makes the design seem more festive – really fun!

Final Verdict: 9.5/10
As long as you like ginger cookies and aren’t looking for a true gingerbread scent, I highly recommend this scented candle! It has a different spiciness than all my other candles, so it stands apart in my Slatkin & Co. candle collection. (My other spicy candles usually have cinnamon, not ginger.)
Would you prefer a true gingerbread scent, or does the ginger-cookie scent still make you happy? Do you like the holographic effect on the label, or is it too immature to you? What are some holiday candles you’ve been burning lately?
Wow, this candle sounds absolutely delightful! I love wintery warm scents, and I would love to try this one out! Thanks for the review. 🙂

Hey Ashesela!
Oh, it’s VERY delightful – when you burn it, you’ll have to remind yourself that it’s WAX and not a real ginger cookie! 😉
I was smelling this in stores and it was ok. Like you said, not much of a gingerbread scent but still like cokies. Really, I like all cookies so this was great. I still liked the homemade cookies candle. Great review!
Hey maddy!
Yes, the Homemade Cookies candle is lovely, too! 🙂 Since we’re approaching the holidays, I just HAD to test this one out. So glad that I did!
I love big candles like this! But just a few days ago, I found some Betty Crocker candles that were 3 for 10$! My wallet got the better of me. 🙂 3.33$ per candle or 10$ per candle… The choice was easy! ^-^

Hey Jennifer!
I’ve never seen Betty Crocker candles in person – just somewhere on the internet. Getting 3 for $10 sounds like a great deal! What are the scents you got? I’m also curious – have you burned any yet? Do they burn well? How’s the scent throw? (Curious cat here.) 😉
Slatkin candles and by far, my favorite candles around! They are strong, the scents are amazing, and they burn really evenly! The only con I see with Slatkin candles is that they burn up pretty fast, due to the three wicks. I think that two wicks would be more than enough to provide an ample scent throw, but oh well. They are still the best candles out there! I got a gingerbread mini free with purchase, and I loved it! I’m all for the ginger cookie scent =) My favorite Slatkin candles right now are Marshmallow Peppermint and Marshmallow Fireside – they are to die for! I’m going to have to stock up once they go one sale 2/$20 again =)

Hey Jacqui!
I actually think that these candles burn relatively slowly, which means they’ll last longer. Even after I burn them for hours, the wax seems to only go down very little. (Then again, I don’t have much experience with non-Slatkin & Co. candles, so I can’t truly compare. I just know that I’m really happy with these candles.)
I’ll have to try my Marshmallow Fireside candle again. The way other people like you are talking about it, it’s making me think that I got a dud. 🙁 Mine had a very light scent throw that was hardly noticeable. I wish it were as lovely as everyone else’s. I’m going to get the fragrance oil and try it in my warmer alongside the candle to ramp it up.
The Marshmallow Peppermint one sounds diving! OOooooohh! I still haven’t smelled that one yet. I really need to – sounds pretty unique.
There you go, enticing me with more of your candle reviews! 😉 I’ve recently discovered that these scented candles are SUPER at taking away iffy kitchen smells (like fishy smells, for one) while leaving a lovely scent behind. I’ve never thought to use it that way so I’m definitely headed to B&BW this weekend in hopes of getting a couple! Thanks for the recommendations, btw. 🙂 They’ll come in handy for sure!
PS. I actually like the holographic label. But then again, I like anything sparkly, shiny and filled with rainbows so I might be a tad biased there. 😉

Hey Carmela!
YAY! I’m excited for you to get a couple of candles! Please let me know what you think…and which scents you end up going for. 🙂 There are soooo many to choose from. Hehe, it can be a little intimidating.
I’ve never tried Yankee Candles before, but I’ve seen photos of the stores they have in the US. Oh my gosh! Wall-to-wall candles in more scents than I could imagine. Have you ever been to one of those stores? I bet it’s an experience!
Now this could be worth a trip to the mall.
Slatkin really does candles right. They always burn well and the smell is just right. Not too strong, not too soft. This scent might actually work well for taking the ‘scent’ out of my son’s room. 😀
Hey karen!
It’s definitely worth a trip to the mall. Quite a few times more than I care to admit, I’ve made the trek expressly for these candles when they were on sale. 🙂
AHAHA…I love it – replace your son’s room’s ‘scent’ with a gingerbread-cookie scent. He’ll love it…and so will you! 😉
Hmm…while I’m not a huge fan of ginger cookies, I may have to start stalking BBW for some yummy scented candles. My screen door is open right now to the cold winter air because my roommate cooked something oniony and I prefer the cold air to the terrible smell. Thanks so much for the tip, Carmela!

Hey another Cristina!
Onion smells can last! 😛 So I don’t blame you for keeping the door open to air things out. (The fishy aromas that Carmela previously talked about made me crinkle my nose…hehe)
