Slatkin & Co. Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle Review & Pictures

Slatkin & Co. Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle Pictures & ReviewEver since I was little, my first choice for a donut was always the Hawaiian. It was the one with icing and round rainbow sprinkles on top. Even if the sprinkles got stuck in between my teeth, I still loved it.

Hmm…I definitely had a thing for rainbows as a kid because I went for the Super Kid ice-cream flavour whenever we went to Baskin Robbins. (Usually we went to Dairy Queen, though.) And Rainbow Brite was one of my favourite cartoons.

My dad and brother would try different kinds of donuts. But my mom would always pick the Cruller, which, even to this day, I consider to be a classy choice.

The only time I got a sugared donut was when all my top picks were sold out. Even so, when I found out about the Slatkin & Co. Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle, I had to try it.

Slatkin & Co. Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle Review

Fragrance

This definitely has a bakery-type scent, but it doesn’t trump Frosted Cupcake. (If they made an eau de parfum of that, I would buy it in a heartbeat!)

It smells exactly like its namesake. I can detect the donut.

The sugar blends with cinnamon in such a way that it’s really muted. Normally when I smell something with cinnamon, the spice really jumps to the forefront and can even add sharpness to the top note.

But in this candle, the cinnamon plays nicely with the sugar and doesn’t try to steal the show. This makes the overall fragrance soft and pleasant. It’s not offensive or strong at all.

Scent Throw

I feel that if you like this scent, you should buy the 14.5 oz. (3-wick) candle instead of this mini size. The scent isn’t strong enough to be noticeable enough with so little wax. Even if you just light this in a small room, I don’t think it works well if you use this size.

Here’s my rule of thumb: a faint scent requires a larger candle size, and a stronger scent still works in a small candle.

Burning

Like my other Slatkin & Co. candles, this one is no exception: it burns cleanly and evenly. This means that as long as you let it burn from edge to edge, the flame will melt the wax perfectly so you don’t get any tunnelling. Just be sure to trim the wick prior to every lighting for best results.

Packaging

The mini size is so darn cute, and I like how it lets me test-drive a new scent without any commitment.

The picture on the front shows some donuts that went through the sugar war! If I ate a donut like that, I’m sure I’d get sugar all over my face…hehe!

Seasonal Availability

The Cinnamon Sugared Donut candle is a new scent for fall, which most likely means it’ll only be available for a limited time. However, occasionally when a seasonal scent becomes extremely popular, Bath & Body Works will bring it back the following year.

If you really like this candle, I suggest you stock up on it now in case they don’t bring it back. Honestly, I haven’t heard too much hype about this scent, so its lack of popularity probably means it has a low chance of being brought back.

    Pros

  • Actually smells like a cinnamon-sugar donut
  • Cinnamon doesn’t overpower the sugary scent
  • Small size allows you to test-drive a scent without commitment
  • Burns evenly & cleanly
  • Inexpensive
    Cons

  • Will probably only be available for a limited time
  • Scent is faint (requires a larger candle size to properly fragrance the air)

Final Verdict: 5.5/10

I’ve smelled yummier candles. It isn’t bad, but on a personal level, this scent didn’t move me. That’s why I gave it such a low score. I won’t be buying it again in any size.

What’s your favourite donut? Do you have any donut-scented candles? Does burning a gourmand candle make you hungry for the real thing?

The picture on the package looks delicious. Sugared donuts are my second favorite (first being maple bars!), especially Tim Horton’s Old Fashion Sugared. YUMM.

but I dislike bakery scented products that linger. I used to work at a bakery and til now I still associate the smell of bread and pastries with my hatred of early mornings. Every time I smell a friggin’ apple pie it reminds me of standing behind the counter at 6am in the morning. lol

      Hey Vivian!

Oh, that’s too bad that you have a mental link between yummy bakery smells and early mornings. Ick! Aww…it even ruined apple pie for you? What about pumpkin pie? Or blueberry pie? Or just all pies remind you of 6 am? Awww….that’s no fun. Haha, yeah, then this candle is not for you. Who wants to be reminded of working so early in the morning?

      Hey Jacqui!

I’ve always been curious about Yankee candles because I’ve never tried them. Wondered if they’re as good as or better than Slaktin & Co.’s.

Which Yankee ones have you tried that were good?

Yes, Slatkin & Co. came out with tons of yummy-smelling candles this fall! I’m really into bakery-type scents, so it was right up my alley! 😀

      Hey Carmela!

Slatkin & Co. has so many amazing candles. This brand sucked me into using scented candles. Before I tried theirs, I didn’t like any scented candles and thought they were just wax! Now I’m a strong believer in them because, honestly, if you’re having a bad day, just light your favourite candle, and you feel so much better!

Gourmand/bakery-type candles are my favourite. Their Frosted Cupcake candle is the best! But for fall, an amazing one from them is Leaves (that lives up to all the hype).

I never buy their candles when they’re not on sale. Feels like suck a rip-off, especially since they go on sale so often for 2 for $25 CAD in stores…or 2 for $20 USD online.
