Sigma SS239 Brush Review & Pictures (Sigma E55 Brush Review & Pictures)

Sigma SS239 Brush Sigma E55 BrushI got the Sigma SS239 Brush in the Eyes Kit. Before you ask, yes, Sigma has recently changed the name of their brushes because they were heavily criticized for trying to copy MAC brushes right down to the name of the brushes. The Sigma SS239 Brush is now called the Sigma E55 Brush.

Out of all the eye-shadow brushes I own (Sigma or from other brands), the SS239 or E55 is hands down my favorite for packing color onto my eyelids. I would go so far as to even say that it’s my favorite brush to use. Period.

Sigma SS239 Review (Sigma E55 Review)

Especially when I do a smokey look, precise application is mandatory to achieve the right effect. When I want to get as much intense color on my eyelids as possible, I always turn to my Sigma SS239 Brush because it picks up eye shadow well, causes minimal-to-no fallout, and applies color exactly where I want it.

The short dome-shaped bristles fit the curvature of my upper eyelid very well and they are very soft (not scratchy like some other brushes I have). I’m also pleased to report that this brush hasn’t shed even through many deep cleanings (and I’ve had this one for about a year – still looks like it did when I bought it!).

You’re probably wondering how it stacks up to the MAC 239 Brush, right? You’re in luck because I own that one, too. While there are differences, not everyone needs both. If you want to splurge (woo hoo!) on an investment that’ll last for years, MAC is your best bet. But if you’re trying to save some money, I recommend getting the Sigma brush because it performs well but costs much less.

Allow me to compare them side by side:

Sigma SS239 (E55) Brush

  • Brown bristles (doesn’t get dirty as fast or at least you can’t see it as easy as with white bristles)
  • Longer bristles
  • Dome-shaped
  • Soft
  • Slightly more flexible
  • Wider & longer handle
  • Natural bristles
  • Can only buy from Sigma’s website
MAC 239 Brush

  • White bristles (gets dirty faster or at least you can see it easier)
  • Shorter bristles
  • Dome-shaped
  • Soft
  • Slightly stiffer
  • Narrower & shorter handle
  • Natural bristles
  • Can buy from MAC counters, MAC stores & MAC websites

Final Verdict: 10/10

The Sigma SS239 (E55) Brush is a staple in my brush collection. I literally use this daily, which is why I went ahead and bought a second one. You won’t be disappointed – this feels, looks, and performs almost as well as the MAC 239 Brush without the inflated price tag. Try it, and you’ll love it!

What eye brushes do you recommend for packing on color? Have you tried any Sigma brushes? Will you be ordering the Sigma E55 Brush? My makeup-brush collection is always expanding, and I’d love to find out what works for you.
