Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice Swatches & Review (Layered Over OPI Espresso Your Style!)

Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice Swatches & Review smallerCall me a Chupa Chup because I’m always a sucker for polishes that bring to mind fond autumnal memories.

There’s something fresh about the way the air smells that makes me giddy. Or, who knows, maybe that’s just the result of my neighbour finally deciding to vacuum his carpets. πŸ˜‰

On a serious note in B flat minor, I sometimes crave a rich fall lacquer nearly as much as a fresh slice of pumpkin pie. (Note: I said nearly, so don’t you dare swipe my dessert!)

Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice satisfied my craving. And I think seconds are in order. Please, sir, I want s’more!

I decided to layer it instead over OPI Espresso Your Style!, which is a decadent shimmery brown that makes a subtle difference. I really enjoyed this combination.

Sally Hansen Pumpkin Spice Review

Colour

This is a great festive polish because it features a colour pairing that reminds me of the season: brown and orange. The base is a dark brown and the glitter is a vivid orange.

This dynamic duo plays the game of contrast very well. I love how it’s dark and dramatic without venturing intoΒ GothicΒ territory. It’s what I would call a cozy combination with some pizazz.

Finish

The base has a sheer-jelly finish, which is really special because it creates more depth. It’s as though you’re looking at glitter suspended in gel. Love it!

Despite this having glitter, the finish is smooth on your nail and not rough or scratchy.

Application & Formula

This polish was so easy to apply – it went on evenly and effortlessly.

Layering

Since this has a jelly finish, it’s sheer. I didn’t wear it solo because I heard that it can take 4 coats or so. (There are lots of swatches online of it by itself if you’re interested.) I layered Pumpkin Spice by Sally Hansen over OPI Espresso Your Style!, which is a shimmery brown to improve opacity.

If you want to ramp up the drama, you could layer it over a jet black. I prefer it over a brown – it meshes better with the orange.

Pros

  • Gorgeous festive fall colour
  • Smooth finish despite having glitter
  • Jelly finish provides depth
  • Easy-to-work-with formula
Cons

  • Sheer (but can be built up)

Final Verdict: 9/10

I enjoyed wearing this polish for a few days and found myself looking down at my nails a lot. The orange glitter really does wonders for bringing the polish to life without being too blingtastic.

What polish makes you think of autumn? Do you love the name of this polish as much as I do? What would you layer this over?

      Hey Fingers!

Hehe, glad my writing gave you a good laugh! πŸ˜€ I live for humour…and dreams. And I take your reaction as the highest compliment! πŸ˜€ THANK YOU!

Chupa Chups is a brand popular for their yummy lollipop flavours. (http://www.chupachups.com/) I haven’t had one in a long time, but talking about it more now is making me want one. When I was in high school, my boyfriend at the time bought me this MASSIVE Chupa Chup. He got it from some special candy store. The lollipop was literally almost the size of my face, and it wasn’t hollow! I couldn’t figure out how to eat it except to smash it into bits. And of course he was excited to do this for me. It was hilarious! My dad and him went to the basement, covered it with a towel, and then smashed it over and over with a hammer. GUYS! πŸ˜›

B flat major just seems more serious than C major, which is happier.

The guy next door is innocent. Maybe his carpets are spick and span. But sometimes I wonder because he sneezes all the time…and all year long. At first I thought it was allergies, but when it continued forever, I wondered about his carpets.

Aww, now you have me craving Chupa Chups! I loved that stuff! Especially when they came out with those more complex flavors like strawberry and cream which tasted so much like a strawberry milkshake! Must try the creme brulee flavor. I’m hunting these suckers down!

Great combination! The base brown color complements the orange glitter really well. I’ve been looking for this polish since everyone started talking about fall shades. Is this an old release or a new one? Haven’t seen it at the Wal-Mart or Rexall I frequent. πŸ™

Oh, and Happy Friday! πŸ˜€ The week flew by so fast although the rain’s been such a Debbie Downer.

      Hey Carmela!

WHAT? Did I read that right? Creme brulee Chupa Chup? WHHHHHATTTT? *Mary’s universe grinds to a halt* I have never seen that, let alone tasted that. I must rectify this grave injustice. That sounds like the most delicious lollipop flavour ever!

Haha, I like how you worded it: “I’m hunting these suckers down!” πŸ˜›

This shade came out not long ago…but not this month. I bought it in September, I think. The last time I went to my local Rexall, they had a couple of bottles left. I’ll be swinging by there when I’m in the area grocery shopping. If I find it, I’ll pick one up for you. πŸ™‚

Happy Friday to you, too! πŸ™‚ I agree – this week flew by for me, too.

Yes, CREME BRULEE Chupa Chups. πŸ˜€ You can find it here, under Flavors of the World (the site loads sloooow but it’s so cute! XD): http://www.chupachups.com Also, I did a bit of research and I know for sure that the Sweet Temptations Candy Shop might have it, see: http://www.sweet-temptations.ca/lollipops.html

        Mmmmm. Creamy Chupa Chups. πŸ˜€

Aww, that’s so sweet! If I do find it before you go, I’ll let you know so you won’t have to. πŸ™‚ Thanks sooo much, Mary!

*Drools* There’s also a place called Sugar Mountain. I’ll have to go by there again sometime. My sweet tooth is hounding me to get some goodies.

Hmm…I’ve never seen the Creme Brulee flavour in person – just the standard flavours and a few of the funky ones. I’m going to pay more attention. Maybe I’ll have a CANDY HAUL in a future post! πŸ˜›

We-ell… a candy haul will be perfect for Halloween! Especially if you got it from trick or treating! (You can dress up and your boyfriend can give you the candy so it’s not cheating.) πŸ˜€

I think you should do it. πŸ˜€

Yes, it would be very appropriate. I may very well do a candy haul. πŸ˜‰ But even if I dress up, I insist on buying my own candy. (I don’t mind cheating when it comes to food!)

      Hey mellinail!

Hehe, Chupa Chup friend! πŸ˜› I get smaller and smaller as time goes on. *Poof*

Yes, you should definitely try it – this is the colour that put me in the fall spirit. I’m sure it’s going to look great on you because you can rock a lot of colours, but I REALLY love the way darker shades look on you!

I absolutely LOVE your nails!! I was just at the store yesterday and looking at the collection of Sally Hansen’s Extreme Wear colors and wish I saw this bc I would have def got it. I’m really into nail polish and making different designs, Im not an expert at all, just beginning. But i find it so much fun. Anyway, I found your site on beautylish about a week ago and have found myself using your blog as a reference when trying to think of a color I want to use or a design I want to try. Your posts are amazing! I had to tell you that πŸ™‚

      Hey Kelly!

I’m flattered that you find my blog so useful that you’re using it as a reference! πŸ˜€ Thank you so much! I try hard to produce quality posts, so your comment made my day! (So glad you found me on beautylish!)

Oh, maybe you can go back to grab this colour. If you layer it over a brown, it looks even better. Maybe the store still has one left. I know that since they came out, they’ve been getting a little harder to find (but not impossible to find).

I’m not an expert, either, but my love for polish (read: obsession with polish) is so strong, and I’m willing to wear pretty much any colour. I’m happy to hear that you’re getting into polish. It’s so exciting! πŸ™‚ There are so many colours and finishes. It really amazes me how companies can keep coming up with new colours that create hardcore lemmings…hehe!

You know Chupa Chup, I’m laughing right along with “Fingers” here… (yup this will be MY strangest sentence of the day). You swatch the most unique shades! I saw this one at Shoppers and walked right past it… You made it yummy and magical! Are your nails shorter? I love this shade on you!

      Hey Marta!

Hehe, when I keep saying “Hey Fingers!” to reply to the comment, it makes me giggle each and every time. And thinking about you laughing with “Fingers”…hehe!

Aww…you walked right by Pumpkin Spice? It was even standing up a little straighter…and it even polished its handle just for you…hoping that you’d notice it and take it home with you. πŸ˜› Definitely go back for it – I can picture this on you.

Yes, my nails are shorter here. I wore this polish a while ago, but only finally got around to posting it now.

Right now, though, my nails are also on the short side. I am pretty strange because instead of maintaining a certain length, I like to cut my nails short and then keep growing them until they get long. Then I’ll cut them short again and repeat the process. I like all lengths equally. But for some shades, I just feel like they’d look better on me with a certain nail length. Pumpkin Spice was a colour that I just had to trim my nails for.

LOL had I known the bottle went through so much trouble, I would have taken it and its twin… now I feel awful… I hope it can hear the high-praises I now sing for it from your blog πŸ˜‰
Funny, I do the exact same thing with my nails!!!! When they get to feeling “too long” I chop them down, bust out the ‘vampy’ shades and watch them grow (repeat).. now, I get super excited too because I loooove my CultNails glass file! It is beyond incredible… no joke (I paid 10.00 for it but man! filing/trimming made super easy!) okay… *breathe* now I want a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks… πŸ˜€

Judging from the time-stamp on your comment, it’s a funny thing: we were commenting on each others’ blogs at roughly the same time! That’s awesome! πŸ˜€

Yes, Pumpkin Spice heard you – I do believe I saw one of its glitter pieces sparkling even brighter in the bottle now. πŸ˜‰

The glass file I’m using is from Quo – it works well enough, but I don’t know how great it is since it’s my first and only glass file. Have you tried it in comparison to the one from Cult Nails? If the one you have is way better, I’ll have to get it the next time I order from Cult Nails. (P.S. I’m super excited about getting Unicorn Puke! *Squeals* Are you? Can’t wait for it to arrive.)

Yum! I just had a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks yesterday! πŸ˜€

      Hey emily!

I haven’t seen Cougar Attack in person yet…just swatches online. Hmm…hope you can find this or Cougar Attack in a store near you. That would be a shame if it already sold out.
