Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Lollipop Swatches & Review

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Lollipop Swatches & ReviewRevlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Lollipop was actually the first ColorBurst Lip Butter that I wanted to try, but the promotional displays were always picked clean. Then, the one tube I found was opened, and I just couldn’t bring myself to buy something that was contaminated. (Eww!)

Of course, when I wasn’t looking for it, I found it at the grocery store…sealed and fresh. So, naturally, it had to jump into my shopping bag. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After purchasing Peach Parfait and Red Velvet, I thought that I would stop there. But, like a lot of fellow beauty lovers out there found out, it’s hard to not want to collect them.

I’m blaming Lollipop for making me obsessed with pink lip colour now! It’s bold, but not too out there. It’s bright, but nowhere near neon. And it’s very wearable.

Let me tell you more about what I thought of this shade.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter Lollipop Review

Colour

The colour has me swooning like I’m looking at Viggo Mortensen! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Lollipop ColorBurst Lip Butter by Revlon is a bright, happy pink that brightened my mood at first swipe. Even if the rest of your face is drained of colour, this baby manages to bring you back to life.

I rarely wear bold lip colours. Usually I sport peachy or nude shades…or even just clear lip balm. So this pink was a far departure for me. Instead of going to Niagara Falls, I ended up going to Spain! ๐Ÿ™‚

When I first bought this, I wasn’t sure if I’d feel comfortable with such a vibrant shade on my lips, but I got used to it right away. And now I’m pretty obsessed with pink lips. (I’m even going to buy MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick, the neon pink, if it gets re-released in the By Request collection. Hope so!)

Is It Moisturizing?

It glides onto your lips nicely and makes your lips feel supple, so yes, it is moisturizing somewhat. But I wouldn’t suggest tossing out your lip balm and replacing it with this.

The Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Lollipop feels more moisturizing than a typical lipstick, but it’s not as hydrating as a good lip balm such as the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm.

I still recommend wearing a lip balm underneath.

Finish

What’s special about Lollipop is that it isn’t just another pink. It actually has fine shimmer that looks purplish. But don’t worry about any grittiness – the finish was still smooth. You don’t see chunks of sparkle on your pout. And even when this wore off, I didn’t notice any fallout.

Application

I apply it right from the tube. It goes on smoothly and provides quite a lot of pigmentation, as you can see in my above swatches. It’s not fully opaque, though. You can still see a bit of your lips through it, which I like. It’s a good transition product for those who want to test the waters from a lip gloss and swim closer to a lipstick.

What Is the Wear Time?

Compared to Peach Parfait, which I’ve previously reviewed and swatched, I was surprised that Lollipop lasted a lot longer on my lips. As long as I didn’t eat, drink, or talk excessively, Lollipop stayed on for about 2.5 hours before it started to lose its shiny quality and then fade a bit.

I was really impressed by this because normally you don’t expect lip butters to last more than an hour.

You can expect to have to reapply this throughout the day to keep it looking fresh. It’s not a lipstick, and I think the slick finish is a tell-tale sign that the product isn’t meant to be long-wearing.

Packaging

Okay, I like the quilted design on the translucent tube. I like how the tube corresponds to the colour inside. And I like how at the top of the cap, there’s a clear window so you can see exactly the colour you’re getting.

But…I don’t like how the cap is so long and the base of the tube (the black part) is so small. This makes it tricky to open sometimes. And if you have hand lotion on, good luck!

If they only made the base a bit taller or added grips to the side, it would’ve been a more thoughtful and practical design.

Also, I would prefer a slanted, pointed tip like a lipstick instead of the flat, slanted tip. You can’t be too precise with this lip butter. I don’t have a problem applying it, but for more control, I wish the tip was a different shape.

Another thing I noticed is that after using it for a short time, it gets really messy. Product gets onto the silver tube.

Availability

The Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters are permanent items, so you don’t have to worry about snatching them up right now before they disappear. That being said, some people (like me) have found it tricky to find because, well, a lot of beauty lovers have heard about the hype surrounding this and have picked the promotional displays clean. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You may need to go to several stores to find it, but trust me, Lollipop is worth it! (I can see the colour looking great on people of diverse skin tones.)

Colour Selection

Revlon was really smart – they released a smorgasbord of colours. You’re sure to find one that suits your skin tone, your comfort level, and your makeup wardrobe! They have everything from really subtle neutrals to the deep and decadent.

No Fragrance

Some people have said that they wished the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters had scents that correspond to their colour names. But I’m really glad they didn’t add any fragrances. I’m picky about scents, especially when I’m wearing it on my lips, which are so close to my nose. If I love a colour, but can’t stand the scent, it’s a major deal-breaker.

But, if Revlon wanted to have some fun, they could one day release a special limited-edition collection of the most popular colours and add scents to those.

Pros

  • Cheerful, easy-to-wear pink that brightens your complexion
  • Great pigmentation
  • Pretty purplish shimmer
  • Not as drying as a typical lipstick
  • Lasts longer than a typical lip butter
Cons

  • Packaging design makes it not the easiest to open
  • Actual product is in a wide & flat tube, which can make for sloppier application
  • Product gets all over the silver tube, no matter how careful you are
  • Needs to be reapplied

Final Verdict: 10/10

I’m in love and lust with the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Lollipop! After using it several times, I want to experiment with bolder lip colours. It’s amazing how much of a difference more colour on your lips can make. You could literally wear no eye makeup, slap this sucker on, and look happy and awake.

Which pink lip colours do you reach for the most? Do you like subtle lip colours? Are you venturing out and trying bolder looks?

      Hey Iris!

Please let me know how you like Peach Parfait when you try it out. It’s such an easy-to-wear colour that gives you that My Lips But Better look. ๐Ÿ˜€

What a great name…lip butter. It just sounds creamy and delicious. Glad I’m not the only one with things jumping into their carts…the beauty aisle can be a dangerous place these days.

It looks pretty on you and might actually be something that I’d try since it doesn’t have that ‘in your face’ effect.

It was kinda interesting that you had the question mark next to the moisturizing issue. Grab someone and start snoggin…when they ask what’s up, just say ‘Research. How soft are my lips?’ ๐Ÿ˜›

      Hey karen!

Yes, it’s a good excuse to blame the products for jumping into the carts. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not my fault at all.

It’s moisturizing, but by how much percentage, haha, I have no idea! What a ridiculous percentage they advertised.

Haha, if I find the right guy, I may have to do some thorough research. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Tee hee!

I love these! Shoppers Drug Mart has them on for $3.99 (yesterday and today only!) and I bought three yesterday, including Lollipop. I am so into bright things for spring/summer, and yet I’m not brave enough to wear an opaque bright lipstick yet, so the lip butters are perfect!

      Hey Valerie!

Yes, I heard about that. Went to a couple of different Shoppers today to try to find one of my friends Peach Parfait. And I almost bought Strawberry Shortcake, Gumdrop, and Cupcake…but then I put them back. They’re nice, but I think I should be frugal and satisfied with the three I already have. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lucky you for finding Lollipop during the amazing sale! ๐Ÿ™‚ The two Shoppers I went to sold out of it already.

I dashed over to my local Shoppers when I found out they were having a $3.99 sale for these lip butters but the one color I wanted, Peach Parfait was already sold out! And in not one, but three locations! >< I might try again today since the sale is still on or ask the hubby to check if a Shoppers near his work will have it. Elusive lip color, that one.

I like to keep it neutral in the lip area but I have been trying to bust out brighter colors. I tried to do the matte fuchsia from spring/summer last year but it was too..scary for me. O.o I did (and still do) like the orange-y lip trend! Surprisingly, I love how it works with my skintone. Never thought I'd be able to pull off orange!

      Hey Carmela!

I checked 2 Shoppers today to try to find Peach Parfait for you, but no dice. ๐Ÿ™ They sold out. A lot of the popular colours are already gone. And I was so close to walking out with Strawberry Shortcake, Gumdrop, and Cupcake (after paying, of course!), but then I put them back.

I’ve seen Peach Parfait at Loblaws. Do you want me to grab it for you if you can’t find it during the Shoppers sale? After today, the Lip Butters are still going to be on sale, but for $5.99 for the rest of the week. So just let me know. I can go to Loblaws and get it for you, but there, it’s the regular $8.99.

Orange lips? I’ve never tried it, and I don’t think I could do it. I’d be more inclined to try fuchsia!

Thanks for doing that, Mary! You’re an absolute sweetheart. ๐Ÿ™‚ But yeah, I’m not really surprised. This one’s been more slippery than an eel! (Okay, weird metaphor..)

If you do find any, I’ll be forever grateful. I’ll still be on the hunt for them myself. ๐Ÿ˜€

Not super, super orange. Just an orange tint. (Altho I probably wouldn’t mind a super orange look, either..) It makes my lips look more peach so maybe that’s why I like it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okay, this weekend, I should be passing by the Loblaws that had the Peach Parfait. I’ll be sure to take a look and get back to you. Hope they have it. You need it! And you’ve been searching high and low for it for what seems like forever. It just doesn’t seem fair.

Great to see you’re becoming more adventurous with the lip colors! This looks like a really happy summer-ish color. This shade of pink really reminds me of a Cover Girl Nature Luxe gloss balm I have called Hibiscus. It’s a bright pink like Lollipop. I like to wear balm underneath it and one thing I noticed–if I wore balm underneath it it made the color less bright and more neutral-looking. Not a bad thing, just different. I really like how all these brands are making these “lip butter” type products now–there are a lot of colors, and they’re not quite lipsticks (something I really appreciate since I’m not ready to wear lipstick on a daily basis yet).

I’ve never tried any of the Nature Luxe Gloss Balms before, but it’s good to know that you’ve been enjoying yours. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s very true – when wearing balm underneath, it does water down the brightness.

I’m not much of a lip product person as all I ever really wear is lip balm but when these came out, I was dying to try them for some reason and I’m glad that I did! They are so fun and not drying like most other lipsticks. Lollipop looks great on you, I may have to pick that shade up next time I hit the drug store. My fave so far is Pink Truffle =)

I haven’t heard many people raving about Pink Truffle, so that’s a colour I’ll pay more attention to the next time I go to the drugstore. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying these as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ They really do make it easy for lip-balm lovers to test out more-colourful lip looks.

So far, it’s my favourite, too. I like it a lot better than Peach Parfait. Peach Parfait was pretty, but safe and typical for me. Lollipop is just the pop of colour I wanted to experiment with. ๐Ÿ™‚
