Breast cancer has affected the lives of millions. Chances are that you know someone who has or had breast cancer.
But what a lot of people don’t realize is that men, not just women, get breast cancer! It’s not as common, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important.
I read on Wikipedia that about 1% of breast cancer occurs in males. Also, “the relative risk of breast cancer for a female with an affected brother is approximately 30% higher than for a female with an affected sister.”
There are significant differences in breast cancer in females versus males. Since men tend to have a smaller breast size, the lesions are easier to find. However, the scary thing is that because there’s less awareness of breast cancer in men, they may hesitate to seek medical attention.
The whole reason why I’m mentioning breast cancer is because OPI is coming out with a new nail-polish set with a breast-cancer-awareness theme.
With the purchase of the OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 set available in September and October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), you’ll get 2 full-size, limited-edition nail polishes: OPI Pink-ing of You (pale pink) and OPI More than a Glimmer (a glitterbomb). The OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 set also comes with crystal and pink-ribbon nail decals.
The following official press release was sent to me by OPI’s PR:
OPI Supports Breast Cancer Awareness with Seventh Annual Pink of Hearts Promotion
OPI announces the launch of its seventh annual limited edition Pink of Hearts promotion, featuring the classic sheer pink shade Pink-ing of You and the new sparkle packed hue More than a Glimmer. Pink of Hearts 2013 will also include pink ribbon and crystal decals (10 each) to embellish nails.
This duo pack is designed to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support. In 2013, OPI will donate $25,000 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) to Susan G. Komen®. OPI will also donate $5,000 to Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada.
“OPI is proud to support Susan G. Komen and Rethink Brest Cancer with the seventh annual Pink of Hearts promotion,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI cofounder & Artistic Director. “I encourage women to create and customize their own Pink of Hearts manicure, wearing these colors as a visible way to honor everyone whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.”
Pink of Hearts 2013 includes two shades sold in one pack – the pale pink Pinking of You and the vibrant More than a Glimmer. This sparkly lacquer is packed with both micro and macro matte glitters in a rainbow of colors and should be worn without a top coat, either alone or layered on top of Pink-ing of You. Each bottle also features a special pink ribbon cap wrap in support of breast cancer awareness, and every set offers 10 each decorative pink ribbon and crystal decals.
Pink-ing of You and More than a Glimmer feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™
Brush for the ultimate in application. Pink of Hearts 2013 will be available September
and October 2013 at professional salons and spas across Canada, for $19.95 CAN
suggested retail per set.

OPI More than a Glimmer looks so neat. I just had to show you a close-up of the promo picture. It reminds me of a milky version of OPI Rainbow Connection.
Will you be buying the OPI Pink of Hearts 2013 set? Do you know someone who’s fighting breast cancer or who has beat breast cancer?
Gorgeous set. Strongly considering grabbing this when it hits stores!
Hey Cathy!
Do you normally purchase the OPI Pink of Hearts set each year? Hope you enjoy this one if you do go ahead and grab it! 🙂
(OPI’s PR has this in the mail for me, so when it arrives, I’ll wear it and then try to review it ASAP for you all!)
My mum has had three different breast tumors at two different times. She got the bad news on her birthday both times! But she beat the cancer and I gave birth to her grand daughter on her birthday 2010 so now it’s a good day again!
Hey Jennifer!
I’m so sorry to hear that your mom had to go through that. But it’s so inspirational to hear how she beat cancer! That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing your happy-ending story and giving lots of people hope! *Hug*
like the decals
Hey Icequeen81!
They’re so cute, aren’t they? 🙂
very and also very discreet for an accent nail
I can’t wait to own that glitter!!! And I don’t think I have a pink that light. Love them!
Hey Carly!
Sounds like this set is perfect for you then! 🙂 Yes, the glitter looks milky and glittery – lots of fun to wear. It’ll go very nice with the pale pink.
These two seems lovely! 😀 And I really like the cause behind it.

Hey Gelic’ Nail Art!
Same here – I like when beauty companies do things like this and support good causes. It makes you feel good about promoting/buying the products! 🙂
Thanks for spreading the word about breast cancer in men. Breast cancer is an important issue for everyone to know about, and I don’t think many of us realize men can suffer from it as well.
I think I will be skipping anything but the decals from OPI. The bottle shot of the glitter got my attention, but the bottle shot detail makes me think that it’s similar to China Glaze It’s a Trapeze.

Hey Another Cristina!
No problem! It’s really important that everyone’s aware of breast cancer, so I’m happy to spread the word. Maybe it’ll give someone that push to see the doctor, and that alone could save their life! Knowledge is the crucial first stage.
Oh yeah, now that you mention it, it does look like China Glaze It’s a Trapeze. I don’t own it, but from the photos of it that I’ve seen, you’re right!
Totally nabbing that set just as soon as I see it. Thanks for sharing this otherwise I wouldn’t look. lol

Hey Lizzy!
It’s my pleasure! I’m always happy to help you spend your money. Haha! Just kidding – well, partially. (I like helping you save money, too!) 🙂
I actually bought this set a few weeks ago. My supplier got them in and, since they didn’t say she had to hold them, she sold me a set. The glitter is worth it. It’s a bit overwhelming on every nail (yes, I tried it) but provides a fabulous brushed metal look for an accent nail.
My Mom is a survivor, so I even though I do her manis 2-3 times a week, I promised her something special for October. Those stick-ons will be perfect!
Hey Karen!
That’s really cool that you got your hands on this set earlier than the scheduled release! 🙂 Enjoy it!
Wow, your mom is quite an inspiration! And it’s really sweet of you to paint her nails!
