OPI I Theodora You Swatches & Review

OPI I Theodora You Swatches & ReviewIt’s very uncharacteristic of me to wear soft manicures like OPI I Theodora You.

While I admire them on others, when I sport them myself, it’s intimidating because my nails feel naked.

And since I’m used to seeing bold colours on myself, when I see this, it’s like looking at someone else’s hands. Surreal!

I Theodora You is one of the Soft Shades from the OPI Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful Collection that comes out in March.

I gave it a shot, and while it looks very clean and indeed ‘soft’, I can’t say that it screams Mary. Maybe it whispers Mary. 😉

P.S. I never noticed how dry my hands have become lately until I looked at the photos for this post! It’s probably because the weather’s been pretty dry, and I’ve been washing my hands a lot since I’ve been feeling ill. Don’t want to spread the germs!

Key Notes

OPI I Theodora You Review

Colour

I Theodora You by OPI is a sheer pink with a milky quality that gives it a soft, marshmallow-like appearance. It fits right in with what you’d expect in an OPI Soft Shades Collection.

Since the pink is very pale, it didn’t seem to make my fingers look dirty, which is sometimes the problem I have with pinks.

This shade is very easy-going because you can pretty much wear it with any outfit, and it’ll complement it.

But I’m still on the fence about how it looks against my skin tone. I feel like if my skin was richer or lighter, the polish would be more flattering.

Finish

I Theodora You by OPI is a sheer polish that’s buildable. With the first coat, it’s extremely streaky. With a second coat, it’s still very streaky. Then, with a third coat, you can still see the streakiness, but it’s not as noticeable. (Note: Each coat I used was of medium thickness. If you use thin coats, you may need to apply more than 3 to fully cover your nail.)

The finish is shiny and smooth. It’s also very easy to remove.

Application & Formula

I Theodora You was on the watery side, and the formula is very milky and sheer. The nail polish isn’t difficult to control, but if you’re the type of person who gets annoyed by Visible Nail Line, this might not be the polish for you.

I suggest this shade on shorter nails because the Visible Nail Line won’t be so noticeable. And some people suggest using a white polish as a base to improve opacity.

Pros

  • Soft, pretty sheer pink
  • Buildable coverage
  • Smooth, shiny finish
  • Easy to remove
Cons

  • Streaky formula
  • Requires at least 3 coats to cover Visible Nail Line

Final Verdict: 6/10

I Theodora You by OPI is a cute and sweet shade that I would like more if it weren’t so streaky. What I do like is how soft and pretty it looks – the marshmallow-like appearance is fun to look at.

Do you prefer wearing shades like this on short or long nails? Are you a fan of OPI’s Soft Shades? What’s your favourite ‘Mannequin Hands’ polish?

      Hey Ashley!

Haha, I’ll be reviewing another pale polish that has an even thinner formula than this. Haha, I used 5 coats of the other polish! FIVE!

I’m happy to see that is not as sheer as the ones from the NYC Ballet collection! It’s funny that I have the same “those are not my hands” feeling when I wear dark or bold colors hahaha!!!
I think it looks great on you and maybe you can use it for jelly sandwiches, to give it a more interesting look 😉

      Hey Mara!

Funny how we have the same reaction to polar opposite shades! 🙂

Good idea about using it for jelly sandwiches! I’ll have to do that for sure!

I like the color but I use Essie muchi muchi when I want a soft pink. It covers well with just 2 coats:) bubbles easily tho….I’m a biter so I keep my nails cut down to almost no tip no matter what color.

      Hey Leigh!

Yes, Essie has tons of light pinks to choose from! And it’s good that you’re able to get great coverage with just 2 coats. I think that’s how all polishes should be. Not everyone has time to pile on layers and layers.

      Hey Lizzy!

Haha, I felt weird wearing this, but if I saw it on someone else, I’d admire how clean it looks. Guess I just need to try wearing these kind of pale shades more to get used to it.

      Hey Randi!

Haha, in my collection, I actually don’t have many of these types of shades, so it’s almost like a novelty to me!

OPI “Don’t Pretzel my Buttons” gives me THE biggest case of manequin hands and I love it!
Just like I love your shorter nails with this shade- though I know they are not fully “Mary” 😉 Your nails are used to fun / vibrant shades 😉
    *hugs*

      Hey Marta!

You are an example of how elegant and pretty mannequin hands can look. 🙂 I adore the soft shades on you. Not everyone can pull them off like you can!

Mary, I know you don’t like pinks very much but I really think this one looks amazing on you! I’m not that into sheers/pinks either but for some reason I’m really feeling this one. Maybe the late hour is turning my head upside down 🙂 It’s too bad it’s streaky though!

Really? Wow, I may have to look at this one again. I’m really not used to wearing such pale shades, but I love the look on others – so clean and fresh!

      Hey Jay!

Yeah, with this one, you really have to use medium coats, If you don’t, I think you’d be applying sooooo many coats. I’m used to most of my polishes being 2-coaters, so anything more than that needs to be justified with an outstanding, unique colour.
