OPI DS Pewter is one of the two newest colours to be added to the OPI Designer Series line.
You’ll remember seeing it making a brief appearance in the Quick Look post about this and OPI DS Lapis.
OPI DS Pewter is part of OPI DS Raw Granite, which has the trendy texture that I still can’t seem to get enough of.
This dark grey with silver glitter has an industrial, steam-punk-esque feel to it, which I really like!

OPI DS Pewter Review
Colour
OPI DS Pewter is a cool-toned grey that reminds me so much of the industrial steampunk look. It’s edgy and bold without being girly.
The glitter included are of two sizes, which adds depth. These pieces are a light silver, which help it stand out against the darker-grey base.
Also, the glitter brings some life to the polish, as it catches the light and sparkles with just enough bling to make your manicure feel special.
Finish
Of course I love the finish of OPI DS Pewter – it has the textured finish that has been very trendy.
There’s more noticeable texture than the smoother OPI DS Lapis, and I enjoyed how this finish has a matte-yet-sparkly look. Also, I appreciated how, because it’s a textured polish, it dried very quickly. It’s perfect for when you want to give yourself a quick manicure and then dart out the door soon after.
Not everyone’s a fan of the texture, but if you want to add a shiny top coat, it’ll bring out the glitter a bit. (You can see what it looks like in this photo I posted on Instagram where I show it with a top coat.)
If you use a top coat, though, you’ll have to apply a minimum of 2 coats if you want it to appear glass-like. OPI DS Pewter has a tendency to eat top coat.
Application & Formula
This polish was on the thick side, but it was far from goopy. I found it was opaque even with a single coat, but to ensure I got every little cranny covered, I opted to use my typical minimum of 2 coats.
It was easy to control the formula and to get it to go where I wanted, so even though it was thick, it wasn’t unmanageable.
When it came time to remove this polish, I had to put in some elbow grease because it didn’t come off as easily as some other textured polishes. The glitter, I think, is the culprit, because it wants to cling onto your nails for dear life!
While removal is challenging, it’s also the reason why this nail polish wears like iron! I had this manicure going strong for about 4 days or more, and it looked as good as it did on the first day! Very impressive! (The only reason I removed it was because I was itching to test out a new colour. Had I left it on, I think it could’ve easily lasted me a full 7 days or more!)

Final Verdict: 8/10
Although OPI DS Pewter is pretty cool, I still like OPI DS Lapis a lot more because it reminds me of a night sky. That being said, I know that I’ll be wearing OPI DS Pewter again because it’s absolutely stunning!
Which do you prefer – OPI DS Lapis or OPI DS Pewter? Do you have a favourite OPI Designer Series nail polish? How many days straight is the longest that you’ve ever worn the same nail polish without any touch-ups?
I’m wearing this right now and I SOOOOOO love it (although I’m dreading the removal after reading your comments about that).
I’m still not sure which one I prefer, Lapis or Pewter… I guess I have to wear them a lot more to figure that one out 😉
Hey Joyce!
Definitely you should use the foil method when you remove this! I didn’t, so I was scrubbing away! It was so pretty, though, that it was worth it.
Haha, I love your logic! Spoken like a true nailphile!
It’s very nice, but I also like Lapis better.
Hey Renee!
Starry-night polishes always hook me! 😉
This kind of reminds me of China Glaze Tinsel Town. I wonder if you could put a matte top coat on that for similar results.
I’ve also been playing around with some “older” glitters lately, and not putting top coats on them to achieve the “textured” finish. I just tried it with China Glaze I’m Not Lion, and I really liked the results. Sadly it did chip on me after about 4 days, and I usually get a week’s wear out of any polish. But it looked very cool – similar to OPI Honey Ryder.
Hey Katherine!
That’s an interesting idea. It would be neat to try out and see what it looks like.
Pretty! I think the little silver hexes give it an extra something special.
Hey Jess!
I agree – it’s the icing on the glitter cake. 😉
This is crazy gorgeous!

Hey Cosmetics Aficionado!
Yeah, isn’t it? And it’s crazy how well and long it wore before I removed it!
Very Pretty.
Hey Melissa!
It’s gorgeous, isn’t it? 🙂 Love how glittertastic it is!
Gorg shade but gritty for me 🙁
Hey Icequeen81!
The grittiness helps it wear like iron, I think!
