What’s life without versatility! While I love glossiness on my nails, there’s something about a matte finish that’s just so subtly sexy.
Instead of going and purchasing every nail color in matte, I got the Nubar for Men Matte Finish Nail Protector instead to give my nail polish collection a second personality. I think of it as my little magic potion that provides nail colors with a different vibe.

Nubar for Men Matte Finish Nail Polish Review
Just for men? Don’t think so! I love a finish that’s laidback cool, and that’s just what the Nubar for Men Matte Finish Top Coat offers. However, it doesn’t mattify as well as I want. The result isn’t completely matted; it’s more like a satiny finish, which I do like.
But not only does it alter the finish, this Nubar matte top coat will also change the color, so don’t expect the same shade vibrancy. As you can see from the swatches, the hues are subdued. Think of using this top coat as adding a layer of frosted glass on top of the color.
Let’s not forget that this is called Nubar for Men Matte Finish Nail Protector. Many matte nail polishes don’t last as long because you can’t use a top coat to protect it. This mattifies (satinfies?) the color, while at the same time offering great protection. In fact, my manicures seem to last about 3 days longer with this nail protector than with a Sephora by OPI Top Coat.
And as with all Nubar formulas I’ve used, this one is a cinch to work with. It is thin enough to go on smoothly and to even itself out on the nail, but thick enough for a good coat. Plus, it’s not goopy at all.

Since different brands’ matte top coats have different results, I’ll be continuing my search for one that gives me the matte finish that I want. That’s not to say I don’t like this one; it’s good when I’m in a satiny mood.
