Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam Swatches & Review

Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam Swatches & ReviewOkay, Khloe Kardashian is trying to steal my thunder. We all know that it’s Mary who had a little lamb, right?

I should know. Everywhere that I went, my lamb went. My lamb even followed me to school one day, which was against the rules. But it made the children laugh and play to see a lamb at school. πŸ˜›

Okay, fine…Khloe can have a little ‘lam-lam’ if she leaves my lamb alone.

I tried to capture Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam the best I could, but Mr. Sun wasn’t cooperating and actually stood me up. How rude!

The colour isn’t complex, but my camera made it look a lot lighter than it really is.Β In person, it’s one of those near-black teals (at least it was on me), and the colour on your nails is darker than what you see in the bottle.

Nicole by OPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam Review

Colour

Normally I’m not a fan of near-black colours because I figure that I may as well just wear black and go all out.

I was really hankering to wear something dark and glossy. Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam fit the bill – it’s even more vampy than my photos would suggest. However, I wish that it were a smidgeon lighter so that the green would be more noticeable on me.

What’s interesting is that in the bottle, it looks like a medium-dark teal, but when I put it on my nails, it came out soΒ much darker. Don’t be fooled by the bottle colour! Then again, if you have a much lighter skin tone than I do, it may look different.

For me, this was the type of colour that looks so close to black on your nails that you have to try really hard to see the green…or you need to put it beside something black and then you realize that, oh yeah, it actually is green!

(Then again, I do wear glasses, so maybe my vision ain’t what it should be. If you’ve worn this, please leave a comment and say whether or you noticed this polish looking blackened on your nails and lighter in the bottle.)

Finish

Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam is a creme polish – no shimmer or glitter. Straight-up creme. This also means that it’s as easy as a wink to remove.

Application & Formula

One of the reasons why I liked this was that it was highly pigmented! It was nearly a 1-coater! When I was painting my nails, I was really surprised at how much the first coat covered.

And I loved how easy the formula was to apply. It went on smoothly and evenly. Plus it was very glossy even on its own – so shiny, in fact, that I literally could see my reflection pretty clearly in my nails! πŸ˜€

Also worth noting is that even though dark polishes are notorious for staining nails, when I wore this with the OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, I didn’t get any staining. That’s always good news. Nobody likes to remove polish and discover that their nails have been dyed.

Pros

  • Super glossy colour
  • Almost a 1-coater
  • Great, smooth formula
Cons

  • Looks darker on nails than in the bottle

Final Verdict: 8/10

Although I don’t tend to love near-black polishes, I’m giving this one a high score because of its perfect formula and glossy finish.

P.S. Some of my fellow Canadian readers have mentioned that they couldn’t find this collection at their Shoppers yet. I didn’t see it at mine, either. I have a feeling that the release date is later, but I’ll wait to hear from PR and then I’ll update the information (in this section). And, if you’re also a Canadian and have seen it at your Shoppers, please let us all know. πŸ™‚ Maybe it’s just our stores that are late at putting out the display.

Edit: A Canadian reader has told me that she found some of the colours at Shoppers. Also, I asked PR, and she confirmed that the colours should be already available. It might just take time for all the colours to filter to all locations. So keep checking!

Do near-black creme polishes excite you? Have you been wearing darker colours now that it’s fall and we’re heading into winter?

    Hi, Mary!
I don’t comment enough here, I save those for g+ usually. But this is where the comments should be, right?

Anyway – the first thing I thought of when I saw this was.. “why a near-black?” And so I ask. What’s the point of something so dark without making it black? Does it really show up nicely – say in sunlight – enough to make it obvious it’s not black?

Though the formula appeals to me – a 1 coat! – I’m not sure it’s enough to make me go to almost black.

Thanks for the reviews! No matter what else, I am always reading them. πŸ™‚

      Hey Debi!

Aww, I’m just appreciative that you comment at all – on here, on Google+… πŸ™‚

This colour was really close to black, and since I didn’t get to wear it when the sun was out, I can’t say for certain that the sun lightens up the colour. In the bottle, though, it looks a lot lighter for some reason. (I like the bottle colour better because the green’s more obvious.)

I understand how you feel about wearing near blacks. Why not just wear straight-up black? They usually frustrate me, too (e.g. OPI Lincoln Park After Dark and NARS Zulu), but the shininess and the smooth formula turned the table on me for this one only. Plus I was really feeling the super-dark colour when I wore it.

      Hey Jennifer!

Hehe, I was feeling rather silly when I wrote the introduction to this post. πŸ˜‰ Glad you got a kick out of it.

You’re very welcome. πŸ™‚ I’m happy to hear that you appreciate the swatches, even if the colour isn’t your thing. Hope you have a good day, too!

I really like the color! Although black (or near black) makes me look even paler than I’m already am so I usually pair it up with some glitters ( i’m totally into glitters now) funny that the color keeps changing in your pictures but I do like polishes that way and especially polishes that apply easily!

      Hey Elyne!

Yeah, this colour was surprisingly hard to photograph! My camera is old, but usually it does a decent job. This one threw it for a loop!

Good idea to add glitter on top – that’ll brighten it up and really personalize your manicure.

Teals are right up my alley and this one is gorgeous! I don’t mind near black so this should fit my color wardrobe perfectly. But I have to ask, what’s a Lam Lam? Did she date a guy or have a dog named Lam? (Not updated but merely curious about the name choice as I think only “Mary” should have to privilege of having lambs who follow her everywhere) Come to think of it, it actually reminds me of Fingerpaints Vintage Velvet but blackened. Maybe I’ll pass then. πŸ˜‰

      Hey Carmela!

I have no idea what’s up with the name. If there was a guy with the name “Lam”, I’m sure he was teased mercilessly!

Hehe, and yes, only Marys should have lambs following her everywhere. πŸ˜›

I wonder if you mixed Fingerpaints Vintage Velvet with a bit of black, if you could franken this colour yourself.

i don’t really pay much attention to the kardashians, but i do read gossip so i’m pretty sure it is in reference to her husband lamar odum and possibly the child they had? little lamar? this is my guess. i frankly don’t really care, but hey, share the useless knowledge!

Oh yeah! I forgot that her husband’s name is Lamar. Silly me! That makes more sense now. Thanks for clearing that up, rae! πŸ™‚

This was the first Kardashian Kolor I bought and it is my favorite! I also bought Kim-pletely in Love a few days later. The polish comes out more green than black to me, I have pretty light skin so maybe that has something to do with it. This is such a unique color and has definitely become one of my favorite dark shades for the fall!

      Hey Becky!

Oh, lucky you! My skin is light, but I have yellow undertones, and I’m nowhere near as fair as someone like, say, Nicole Kidman. Aww…I would’ve loved to have the green show more on me than the blackened green!

      Hey Emily!

Hehe, yes, it was, but then my lamb wanted to change it up and dye its fleece green. Clearly my lamb has been following me for much to long, right? πŸ˜‰

I don’t have the charcoal glitter (Follow Me on Glitter), but I do have the gold one (Disco Dolls). Not sure when exactly I’ll wear it. I have to be in the mood for that one. It looks fun in the bottle.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Her unfortunate news will probably reel in more interest in this collection.

I’ve checked both walmart and the better shoppers in my area (the only one that actually carries the quo polish, for instance), and definitely no kardashian colours yet. This teal is stunning and i put it on my wish list this morning. now i just need to find some cash so when it does come in, i can grab it!

      Hey rae!

For Canadians, this would only be available at Shoppers. I’ve asked PR about the release date since a lot of others also can’t find it. I’ll update the post and reply again to your comment when I find out anything.

The color looks nice but it’s not really my type. Most dark colors look okay on me but some just make me look even darker. (I have reallytanned skin). I might get this.

Your posts always make me giggle! I like the color a lot in the pictures. Lately I have been obsessed with very dark near black polishes. I think this one would fit that little obsession πŸ™‚ Only problem I cant find this collection anywhere!

      Hey Amber!

Since you’re in the States, you might be able to find it at Wal-Mart. Some stores got theirs earlier than others. I’ve asked PR about any specific dates since it seems quite a few people are also having trouble locating this collection.

Hmm…one person with fair skin said that it didn’t look as blackened on her and more green. It’s still a dark colour, though, but I’m not sure if it’ll be quite as dark on you as it is on me.

Haha, I know what you mean. πŸ˜› My Wal-Mart is really out of the way. That’s pretty much why I almost never go there. In the last few years, I think the only time I went there was to check out their Hard Candy stuff twice…

If you can, maybe call ahead to check if they have it, though. I’d hate for you to make a trek all the way out there and they don’t have it. Only some Wal-Marts already have the collection out. The rest are getting it later.

I’m glad that you liked the pictures! πŸ˜€ Really wished that the sun came out, but as we’re quickly approaching winter, there’s less and less bright daylight. Going to have to figure something out so I don’t always have to rely on flash photos in the winter.

I don’t have Essie Bobbing for Baubles, but if I compare the swatches of it online to Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam, I’d say that they’re similar in that they’re both dark, but very different in that Bobbing for Baubles is blue and Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam is teal/green.

I’m wearing this right now and I agree with you… The first day when I had it on I can still see a little green, although it was very very dark! But as today is the third day… I can almost only see black and am wondering if it’s my vision or it’s really the Color… I do wish it’s exactly like it’s bottle so the green would’ve shown more!!

      Hey Annie!

Okay, so looks like I’m not the only person who felt that way. I’ve seen swatches from other bloggers where the polish looked more teal/green and less blackened like it does on me. Maybe it’s their skin tone. Perhaps with fairer skin, the green has more of chance to shine through? But my skin tone is light enough, so I was surprised when the polish looked blackened compared to the colour in the bottle.
