Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam Swatches & Review

Nicole by OPI It's All About the Glam Swatches & ReviewWhen I was in grade school, my friends and I used to paint our nails with White Out. We thought it was so cool, even though the finish was bumpy and the fumes could knock you out in no time flat.

I’ve never really been one to wear white on my nails solo since then.

But when I got the opportunity to try Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam a while ago, I gave it a go because sometimes when you don’t wear a colour for a long time, you can have a change of heart.

Did I fall for the shimmery-white polish? Or am I still the same ole Mary?

Shimmering white

Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam Review

Colour

Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam is a very clean, soft white. It’s not harsh or chalky like a lot of whites on the market. There’s a ‘marshmallow’ quality about it.

And when you see it in the sun, it twinkles. (Whenever a polish twinkles, I think of it like the polish is winking at me. Am I the only person who thinks like this?)

Unfortunately, when I wore this polish solo, I didn’t get a chance to capture it in sunlight. However, I did Flower Nail Art on top, and in that photo, you can see It’s All About the Glam in the sunlight.

It’s a nice white, but I’m still not really comfortable wearing it by itself. I can see those who like wearing white in the summer to contrast their tan loving this, but I don’t think white polish is for me.

Finish

It’s All About the Glam has a pretty glass-fleck finish that helps the white from looking flat and boring. It looks like snow flirting with the light.

Application & Formula

The formula left something to be desired – it took me 4 coats to achieve full opacity. But I find that most white polishes tend to take 3 or more coats to cover the nail, so this is pretty typical.

Other than having to use many coats, the polish itself was okay. It was a bit on the thick side and slightly runny, but nothing that was too difficult to control.

Since you have to use so many coats, I strongly suggest that you use a good fast-drying top coat over it, or you may be waiting forever for all the layers to dry.

Pros

  • Clean, soft white looks fresh
  • Gorgeous glass-fleck finish
Cons

  • Requires many coats to achieve opacity

Final Verdict: 6/10

Nicole by OPI It’s All About the Glam is nice and delicate, but it’s not my shtick. I actually felt very self-conscious wearing white solo! Haha, but hand me a crazy multichrome, and it’s like I’m home.

Those who like neutrals and soft hues may fall in love with this, but just be prepared to spend more time because you’ll need to use many coats.

Do you like wearing white nail polish in the summer when you have a tan? Or do you wear it during the rest of the year, too?

      Hey Brianna!

Yeah, four coats! And I don’t even use really thin coats, either. But to get everything smooth and streak-free, I needed FOUR.

wow, i really love this color!! i’ll be on the look out for it *~*

As for wearing nail polish while tanned… it doesn’t really matter, I wear it all the time. I typically stay out of the sun in the summer because I think tanning is awful. I enjoy my milky skin :’)

      Hey Lawren!

I’m glad that you appreciate your skin the way it is. Tanning isn’t necessarily all that healthy, either. When I was a kid, I was always outside and didn’t wear sunblock, so I tanned like crazy. But now that I’m older, I always wear at least SPF 15, but I also have a great Shiseido sunscreen with SPF 50. It’s so important to protect your skin while you’re young.

I was the same! I was a total fish when I was younger. I loved swimming so much that I would actually tan faster because of being in the water all day.

Now, I can’t stay out in the sun for more than an hour without sunblock or I burn like crazy. I always have people who make fun of me, but I rather not have sun spots or even scabs from burns when I’m older, plus the sun ages the skin too.

I’m glad that you’re not letting their comments get to you. You’ll be so thankful for taking care of your skin down the road. 🙂

Just not feeling this one even with the twinkles. I’ve seen girls wearing white and thought how pretty it was on them, but when I try it, it just washes out my already pale skin and somehow manages to highlight EVERY minor flaw at the same time.

It doesn’t look ‘ugly’…just unfinished. It’s almost as though it’s saying ‘You aren’t going to leave me like this, are you?’.

      Hey karen!

You know, maybe that’s why I never feel right wearing white polish. You’re right – like it’s just asking for nail art on top. 😉

And I feel like white polish makes my fingers look weird. It draws more attention to the redness…and that’s why it makes me more self-conscious.

      Hey Brittany!

You know, this is a polish that would look SPECTACULAR on you! I really don’t think I did the polish any justice, but I can picture it on you, and it would totally look magical.

      Hey Marisa!

Really? I think this shade would actually look really crisp and clean on you, more so than it does on me. But I totally understand how you feel. White can be tough to pull off.

White out! Don’t get me started on the dumb things I did. In elementary, I used to get bored and color my nails with Sharpie and gel pens. I guess we were both meant to be nail junkies? haha.

It’s a beautiful white and I love the shimmer. Still, I can’t pull off all white nails either, it looks odd. I try to get around this by using white on an accent nail. Combos like For Audrey + white accent looks amazing.

anywho, just dropping by! hope you’re doing well 😀

Hehe, yeah, we thought we were smart at the time. 😛 You live and learn, right?

Oh, I’ve never used Sharpie markers on my nails. Hope you liked the colours since you had to grow out your nails! (I was too chicken to use Sharpies.)

I think I’ll pass on this. It looks similar to Orly Au Champagne which I already have so I probably won’t want to get this. Plus, 4 coats can be a pain if you’re wanting a quick color change. That’s like..Sheer Fun but I love that pale pink so much that I can work with 4 coats. 😉

I’m actually not big on white nail polish just because there’s so much color options out there that white just doesn’t speak to me much. Altho during “palette cleansing” periods, I might reach for a nude/neutral/white.

      Hey Carmela!

Excellent – at least you can save some money and put it toward other gorgeous polishes! 😉

If I had a much-richer skintone, I would be all over white polishes. For me, I really enjoy contrasting colours, so if I had a richer skin tone, this white would POP!

I draw the same association as you when I see white nail polish: I think back to the days of high school and badly painted nails with whiteout 😀 lol
Thus I will NOT wear my nails a chalky white… recently however I am more and more drawn to really pale blues and greens (almost white) so I’m slowly regressing? 😉 lol
I do have Orly Au Champagne which seems similar as well as OPI Snow Bunny which is a white jelly like polish… I think those two will fill my white-void for now (but even with these two, I will feel the need to stamp or sponge… I won’t wear them solo) 😀

      Hey Marta!

Haha, I don’t think you’re slowly regressing. You’re just enjoying some nostalgia in a more-sophisticated way. 😉 And thankfully the rest of us can watch as you continually come up with beautiful manicure ideas!

I’m just going to call you out (in as friendly a way as possible) for assuming all your readers are caucasian.

I don’t think I’d wear white polish personally, but then I never painted my nails with white-out either.

      Hey Ashley!

Umm…I don’t assume that all my readers are Caucasian at all. In fact, I know that I have readers from all different ethnic backgrounds (some of whom I’ve become good friends with), which I’m very proud of, actually! 🙂 What did I say that made you think that? I’m curious now.

I think that white polish looks hot on those with lighter or richer skin tones than mine. On me, white doesn’t seem to work.

Ahh, I see what you mean. Honestly, it was an innocent question posed to those whom it applies to. I know that there are some people who like wearing white nail polish to bring out their tan in the summer.

In any case, no worries – I definitely don’t assume all my readers are Caucasian. 🙂

I was googling swatches for this color & ended up here (I like your blog btw) I mostly was wondering about the formula & what the rest of the world thought of it. Unfortunately sounds like you had to apply as many coats as I did; boo, I wish the formula was better sooo bad because I happen to think this color makes a wonderful Christmas white! Twinkling snow-just like u said lol 🙂
