Nicole by OPI Great Minds Pink Alike Swatches & ReviewWho else is so ready for winter to be over?

Although the weather has been unusually mild with hardly any snow in Canada, I’m still looking forward to the spring and summer.

And what better way to get a taste of the warm-weather spirit than by wearing a light-hearted polish?

Nicole by OPI Great Minds Pink Alike is a pink polish that I can get down with because it’s a coral pink that just makes you happy looking at it.

For me, corals bring to mind fruity cocktails, bikinis, and the giddy feeling you get when the sun’s beating down. How can you be in a bad mood with this on your nails? It’s colour therapy in a bottle!

Nicole by OPI Great Minds Pink Alike Review

Colour

Great Minds Pink Alike from Nicole by OPI is a sassy coral pink that brightens up your fingertips. It’s the perfect colour to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder that so many people experience during the gloomy winter.

If you’re like me and you aren’t naturally a pink-polish person, you should still give this one a shot. It’s not your typical Barbie, girly-girl bubblegum pink lacquer.

Instead, it packs a punch…like fruit punch, to be exact!

Finish

Nicole by OPI Great Minds Pink Alike has a glassfleck finish that really makes this polish more unique than a creme polish.

Depending on how the light hits your nails, the glassfleck flashes pink and/or purple. It’s kind of like the ‘fire’ that takes this polish to the next level.

Application & Formula

The formula was on the thin and sheer side, but it was easy to control. I was really surprised that this polish required a lot of coats. To achieve complete opacity, I needed to use 4 coats! (Despite this setback, I still think that the extra effort is worth it for this colour.)

Pros

  • Fun, bright coral pink with pink & purple glassfleck
Cons

  • Sheer formula requires 4 coats for full opacity
  • Shoppers Drug Mart exclusive (which may make it more challenging to hunt down for some)

Final Verdict: 8/10

If you’re looking for a polish that pulls you away from the winter gloom and into thoughts of tropical smoothies during a heat wave, Nicole by OPI Great Minds Pink Alike fits the bill nicely.

Do you wear coral polishes? Which ones are your favourites? Are you ready for winter to end?

It’s a really pretty color. It’s a nice coral pink. I wish spring would come soon! I asked my mom to check Shopper’s for these colors but they still don’t have them. Did you get any of the other colors from this collection?

      Hey maddy!

The only other colour for this collection that I have is Purple Yourself Together.

Do you and your mom have similar taste in polishes? That would be cool if you shared bottles. Hehe, my mom and I are completely different. She doesn’t like nail polish at all, and, well, obviously I’m an addict. 😉

I love nail polish way more than my mom but she occasionally paints her nails or toenails. My mom is more into neutrals for work but I like to add a pop of color to my outfit for school.

Even though you both gravitate toward different colours, it’s cool that you can still share that love of polish. I wish that my mom got into it. If she did, I would totally paint her nails. It’s really too bad.

Mmm, I don’t know why, but this color doesn’t appeal to me. I would have said that it looks dusty, but since there’s a little bit of fleck to it, that wouldn’t be right. I guess the color is not “metallic” enough for me. Personal dislike though.

On another hand, 4 coats is way too many! When I go over 2 coats, my nails simply never dries… 🙁

      Hey Jennifer!

That’s alright! Not every colour appeals to everyone. 🙂 And I think also that sometimes certain colours are best when you’re in the right mood for them. I’m not always in a pink-coral mood, but lately, I’ve been digging them. Coral is a colour that I don’t have much of, so I think that’s also why it appeals to me. (Green polishes are my favourite, but because I have sooooo many of them, it takes a lot for one to really stand out to me.)

Whenever I go over 3 coats, I’m always thankful for the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat! Seriously, it dries most polishes so quickly. If I didn’t have that, yeah, I don’t think I would use polishes that require so many coats!

Two minds with but a single thought! I’ve just made a blogpost about my new spring coloured nail polish, Essies Van D Go! I love the coral polishes, and my favourite is L’Oreal Resist & Shine Titanium nr. 430 “Hot Coral”. It’s soooo beautiful, especially when the skin gets a bit tanned. And BOY, am I ready for winter to end?? 🙂

      Hey thecandiedmango!

That sounds like a very pretty shade. I have the MAC Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick, so I know the exact shade you’re talking about.

Hmm…have you tried adding nail-polish thinner (NOT nail-polish remover) into your bottle? Thinner can bring back even crusty polishes that look hopeless. If you have enough left in the bottle, it might be worth a shot!

Colour Therapy in a bottle…I like it!

This is a pretty shade and even though I generally shy away from lighter colors, it looks beautiful on you. Bloomin’ shame about the sheer nature although it might work great for a jelly mani.

The glass flecks win me over every time and this looks like it’s right up my alley. Not sure about the sheer quality of it though.. Also, I couldn’t tell but does it lean cool or warm? If it leans closer to peach then I won’t be able to do this pretty justice. (Anything too warm leaning just looks terrible on me 🙁 ) It looks amazing on you, though! And I wholeheartedly agree, how CAN you stay unhappy with this fun, cheery shade on your tips? 😀

      Hey Carmela!

Oh, I’m very bad about figuring out if colours lean cool or warm unless it’s painfully obvious. It’s definitely closer to peach than it is to pink.

Such a pretty color! This looks a lot like “Naked” by China Glaze, except maybe a tab bit darker.

I think it’s funny that you say it’s not really a Barbie color, because I always used to call my “Naked” polish my Barbie polish! Haha.

      Hey Tawny!

Hehe, it’s just that when I think of Barbie, I think of a pink that’s more like bubblegum and that doesn’t have any peachiness or coralness to it. 🙂

I’m wearing coral (CG Make Some Noise) today too! It’s not a color I usually go for either (it’s kinda boring to me) but I’m totally feeling springtime and can’t wait for summer so this polish is just what I’m in the mood for. I think you hit the nail on the head (oooh double meaning, ha ha) when you said coral brings thoughts of bikinis and sunshine… no wonder I’m liking this polish much more than I thought I would! 😉 Also- is it just me or are you nails a little shorter in today’s pics? In some pics they look normal but in some, specifically the bottle shots, I swear they look shorter!

      Hey Nicole M!

Hehe, nice pun – “hit the nail on the head”. 😀

Yes, my nails are shorter in this post. After the previous nail-polish post, I trimmed my nails. I really like to grow them out really long and then just chop them off. I’ve never really maintained one length. 🙂 Hmm…but all the photos in this post were from the exact same manicure and therefore, my nails are all the same length. It’s probably just that when I was holding the bottle, the camera was at a different angle.

That’s what I do, too- grow them, enjoy long nails for a little bit, then cut em down and enjoy short nails for a tiny bit (cuz they grow so fast!) 🙂 It’s fun that way, and I feel like it always keeps my nails fresh and healthy. Also, I feel like certain colors look better/different on dif lengths. 😀

I agree with you. Some colours definitely look cute or chic on shorter nails rather than long talons. Neon pink comes immediately to mind. On super-long nails, I think it veers on looking tacky, but on short little nubs, it’s soooo cute!

      Hey lacquerloon!

From all the Nicole by OPI polishes that I’ve tried, yes, I find that the wear and the formula is pretty similar to regular OPI. Although, it really varies depending on the finish. But if you compare the same finish (i.e. Nicole by OPI creme to OPI creme), I don’t notice any difference in terms of the formula.

However, I’ve read that other people say otherwise. It must be a personal thing…like how certain brands wear better than others for some people, and how it’s completely different for others. But in my experience, they’re exactly the same. It’s just strange how there’s a price difference, though.

This is a gorgeous color!!! It looks great on you Mary! I suffer from seasonal affective disorder, so I know what you mean. I wear colors like this all the time in the winter to lift my spirits ;0). Hopefully, it will be available in other stores eventually because I would love to add this beauty to my stash.

Is it just me or is this color almost exactly the same as OPI “I eat mainely lobster”? While it is beautiful, I hate when they do duplicate colors!!

      Hey Katrina!

I can see how they look a bit similar to you. Too bad I don’t have I Eat Mainely Lobster, or I would totally whip out the bottle and do a comparison.
