Nail Art Tutorial: Football Nails

Football Nails Nail Art Tutorial & PicturesWow, last night’s Super Bowl game was crazy intense just like Beyonce’s Half Time performance! (And it was really cool to see Destiny’s Child reunite!)

With the lights going out in the second half and the close scores in the final minutes, I was on the edge of my seat!

Touch dowwwnnnn! (Sorry, I just had to say that somewhere in this post!)

This was the first Super Bowl that I ever watched the majority of, and boy did I pick a good one! This was really exciting, even for someone like me who doesn’t follow football.

On game day, I was sporting these Football Nails! I rushed to whip them up, and they’re so simple, anyone can recreate them. Plus you only need 3 different colours. It’s a great look for someone who doesn’t have patience to do more a more complicated nail design.

So…the Baltimore Ravens won! I’m neither a fan of the Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers, so I knew I’d be happy for whoever won. But I know that a lot of people were really disappointed because the 49ers were the favourites. (In a way, though, I’m a little glad that the Ravens won just because the 49ers won more Super Bowls. It’s nice when the underdog wins.)

Easy Football Nail Art Tutorial Supplies

What I Used:

  1. Essie First Base (Base Coat)
  2. Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
  3. Nubar Forest
  4. OPI Espresso Your Style!
  5. L.A. Colors Art Deco Nail Art Lacquer White

Step 1: Apply a Base Coat

Step 2: Paint Your Nails Green & Brown

Decide which nails you want to be footballs and which you want to be the turf. You could alternate them or put the footballs together like I did.

For the green, I went with a creme – Nubar Forest. It applies flawlessly, which I’ve come to expect of Nubar polishes.

For the brown, I chose OPI Espresso Your Style! because it was the darkest brown I had that would go well with the green, and there’s a little shimmer to keep it from looking too flat.

Step 3: Add White Stitches to the Footballs

I used a white striper to paint a vertical line on each football nail. Then, I added 3 horizontal lines across that vertical line.

I recommend that you paint all the vertical lines first. Then, go back and draw all the horizontal lines.

Take your time with this step, and try to get the lines as even as possible. But, even if they aren’t straight, that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be perfect, and as long as you have the lines, your footballs will be recognizable.

Wait a good 15-20 minutes to allow the white stitches to dry a little before you proceed to the next step. If you rush now, you could risk smearing the design. You’re in the home stretch, so just be patient. 🙂

Step 4: Apply a Top Coat

I was inspired to do this design after seeing MissJenFabulous’ football manicure. Click here to see her blog post.

I thought it was an extremely easy and very cute design. Plus since it was really fast to do, it was perfect!

Are you a football fan? Are you happy or sad that the Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl? What did you think of the commercials during the Super Bowl? And how hot was Beyonce’s performance?

      Hey Lynette!

I’m a big fan of Nubar polishes. If they were easier for me to get here in Canada, I would have a lot more. Their formulas are usually top-notch, and they have tons of multichromes and duochromes.

Nubar Forest applies so effortlessly. If you’re looking for a primary green creme, I recommend this one.

      Hey Icequeen81!

Haha, I’m so immature sometimes, but I laughed because you thought I did a good job with the ‘balls’. *Giggles foolishly* You can roll your eyes…

I usually root for the underdog as well. 😉 Except in this case where I don’t know enough about football to know who the underdog is. :p This is a great design!! If I ever end up having to spend Super Bowl Sunday with the inlaws again (*fingers crossed* that I don’t) I’ll definitely be sporting this mani.

      Hey Lizzy!

Somebody’s gotta encourage the little guy, right? 🙂

I’m not a big football fan, but I quickly learned that the Ravens were the underdogs because within a few seconds of posting my Ravens skittle manicure on Instagram, I lost a bunch of followers. Then, when I posted 49ers nail art, I gained some followers. People really take football seriously. I was surprised how some people were offended to see a manicure of the opposing team’s colours! Don’t mess with football fans! 😉

Hahahaha, I love how you are hoping really hard that you won’t have to watch the Super Bowl. 😛 It’s not THAT bad…hahahaha! If anything, you can giggle in your head about seeing all the jiggly butt action. I’ve always thought the uniforms are so weird and revealing!
