Maybelline the Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara Review, Swatches & the Colossal Comparison

Every woman and man should focus on the things that they love about themselves. Forget the bad, and concentrate on the good. I’m not just talking about appearance. I’ve been feeling down lately because I waste a lot of energy on the negative things. May is going to be the month that I attempt optimism. I hope you’ll join me!

Reason why I begin this review with this is: I’ve always disliked my eyelashes. But instead of telling you why I don’t like them, I’ll tell you what I like. 🙂 They’re not bushy, so they’re easy to manage. They’re easy to curl because they’re not overly thick.

So, is Maybelline the Falsies Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara a great match for my eyelashes?

Maybelline the Falsies Waterproof Mascara Review – Very Black

Color

Very black, indeed. My eyelashes are black, just like my hair. And Maybelline the Falsies Waterproof Mascara in Very Black matches the color nicely. It looks natural on me, and the black-black looks quite formal.

    Comparison to the Colossal
I don’t see a difference between the Colossal in Glam Black and Very Black. As you can see in the swatches, they’re basically the same. So if you’re using Colossal Glam Black now, you can transition over with VB.

Formula & Application

Maybelline the Falsies Mascara has a creamy consistency that’s not liquidy. It’s more on the stiff side, but not so thick that it doesn’t go on smoothly. It doesn’t clump, which is a biggie in my eyes… or rather, it’s literally a non-biggie in my eyes.

I really like the spoon brush of Maybelline the Falsies in Very Black. It makes easy, especially the smaller lashes near the corners and in the middle curve of the eye.

    Comparison to the Colossal
Neither of these mascaras clumped, but I like the Falsies’ brush a lot more. It’s easier to coat every single lash with mascara. I find the Colossal brush to be a little bit too big, but I especially like the spoon shape of the Falsies’ brush.

Effects on Lashes

I wouldn’t exactly say that Maybelline Falsies Mascara makes your lashes look like fake ones. Actually, is that even a good thing? “I love how fake your lashes look!” Yeah, if someone said that to me, I wouldn’t take it as a compliment.

Anyway, Falsies does extend the lashes to make them longer. It thickens the lashes by a tad, but I see the extension more than the lengthening.

    Comparison to the Colossal
I find that the Colossal, on the other hand, thickens more than it lengthens. I kind of like the thickening effect more, so the Colossal wins this round for me. Although I will say that the difference between the two isn’t that very apparent.

Staying-Put Power

Maybelline the Falsies Waterproof Mascara stays by my side night and day. I didn’t experience any flaking or smudging while wearing this, even when I’m sweating it hard at the gym. What a trooper!

    Comparison to the Colossal
Well, the Colossal does pretty well to stay put also. But it does flake on me from time to time. It’s not as trustworthy!

Removal

Even though the Falsies mascara seems to stay on without smudging, it is a bit easier to remove than the Colossal. It seems to melt away easier when I use waterproof eye-makeup remover, but it stays put during the day and doesn’t budge from the heat.

Packaging

Both mascaras have a chubby shape that I actually quite like. It’s really cute! It’s also easy to hold, but I personally would like the cap to be slightly thinner. Not a huge problem.

    Pros

  • Doesn’t clump
  • Stays put without smudging or flaking
  • Spoon brush makes it easy to apply
  • Looks natural
  • Extends the length of lashes
    Cons

  • Only 3 colors available
  • Doesn’t thicken enough

Final Verdict: 8.7/10

I quite like this mascara. The only complain being that I wish it would thicken a little more for an even dramatic-er look.
