Like nail polish, lipstick is a quick and easy way to change up your look, coordinate with an outfit, or make a statement that ends with more exclamation marks than a campy episode of Batman featuring Adam West punching villains in the nose. ZOWIE! BAM! ZAP!
I’m a fan of the Maybelline ColorSensational The Creamy Mattes that I’ve tried before (Touch of Spice is one of my favourites), so you can imagine how thrilled I was to try their 8 new limited-edition shades.
The United States already had them for a while, but they’re officially set to launch in Canada starting October 27, 2015. Circle your calendars, and get ready for the drugstore dash!
This post contains a quick look at the new Maybelline lipstick shades: Clay Crush, Nude Nuance, Blushing Pout, Rich Ruby, Electric Pink, Pink N Chic, Vibrant Violet, and Burgundy Blush.
I’ve swatched them on my arm and on my lips, so you can see the formula in action.
This is the first time that I’ve swatched 8 lipsticks in a single photo session. (I did it while listening to Justin Trudeau give his victory speech on Monday night on TV.) After applying and removing each lipstick, I was expecting my lips to feel raw by the end, but surprisingly, they didn’t! To me, that speaks volumes about its great formulation.
My bare lips were on the dry side to begin with, but I resisted the urge to reach for a lip balm because I wanted to show you what the formula looks like when you don’t exfoliate, prep your lips, and do a belly dance to appease the lip gods.
(Clearly, I’m not afraid of showing unedited, larger-than-life photos where you can see the natural lines. I’m not afraid of showing my true colours and stripes, so why hesitate with lip lines?)
I was so impressed with how creamy and lightweight they felt, and I will be wearing all of the colours again, except for the bright pinks. (There’s nothing wrong with those, but they don’t suit my personal taste nowadays.)
I may do a review on some shades on the blog or Instagram, so I can go into detail about the wear time after I’ve tested each out individually for longer.
Also, in case you were wondering, the lipsticks have the same frosted red-toned brown lid that the original Maybelline Creamy Mattes have. (The photos in this post are all of the lipsticks going topless. Oh, how scandalous!) 😉
Vibrant Violet, Rich Ruby, and Burgundy Blush are my favourite colours out of the bunch. (You have to carefully apply Vibrant Violet and Burgundy Blush to get an even application, but those shades are worth it.)

Which shades are your top picks? Are you like me and unconcerned about lip lines, or do they bother you? Have you tried any of the Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks?
Hehe, belly dance to appease the lip gods. Little things like that are why I love your blog posts 😀
I instantly knew that your favorite would probably be Vibrant Violet, you can pull off purples really well! Predictably, my fave is Rich Ruby here, I have a thing about those kinds of reds. I would love for you to post full-face selfies with these, sometimes it’s hard to tell how a lip swatch will complement an entire face from a closeup, but these do showcase the exact shade and finish very well! I’m looking forward to your detailed Instagram followups!
Also IDK if you remember from one of your other recent lippie reviews, but I’m gonna be in Tel Aviv this Friday and I’ll be checking out some cosmetics stores to see if any of them have the ColorBlur lip pencils. I’m still lemming Cherry Cherry Bang Bang and Plum Please ^_^

Hey Fedoraharp!
Thank you for reading the zany things that I sometimes pepper my posts with! 😉
There’s just something about purple lip products that makes me so happy. Maybe it’s because where I live, I don’t see too many people wearing them, and I like to be different (sometimes).
Rich Ruby is sultry – one of my favourites from the bunch!
Thank you for your feedback about including full-face shots. I’m still not as comfortable as other bloggers who post their face often. What can I say? I prefer to be behind the camera than in front of it. 🙂 (The exception? When I meet people like Suzi Weiss-Fischmann or Rita Remark…hehe!)
Hope you were able to find Cherry Cherry Bang Bang and Plum, Please during your Tel Aviv trip! Have fun!
Very pretty colors! I’m not a big make up person. I wear just enough make up to be as my friend Denise would say, “socially acceptable” when leaving the house every day. My true love is polish. LOL Thanks for sharing!
Hey Melissa!
Hahaha, “socially acceptable!” You’re hilarious! 😛
OMG! I’ve never tried any Creamy Matte Lipsticks before. But These make me want to try them! In all honesty I don’t mind lip lines. Everyone has them it’s a part of who we are. Vibrant Violet, Rich Ruby & Burgundy Blush are my favorites!

Hey Sasha!
Oh, you’re going to be pleasantly surprised when you try your first one, especially the ones you listed – they’re also my favourite colours, too! The formula and pigmentation are top-notch.
Hmm none of these colors make me want go empty my wallet, but the formula does look like it wears nice at least!

I agree! Mattes and my lips sometimes don’t play well together esp in fall/winter, but they’re all the rage now and these look and sound both more promising and forgiving than most. Thanks for the ‘real life’ pics too! So helpful. I had my eye on the Nude Nuance and the Blush one recently but didn’t pull the trigger but I may give them a go if I see them again.
Hey Stephanie!
My pleasure – glad that you found my ‘real life’ lip swatches helpful! 😀
Hey MizzJ!
On the bright side, at least the Makeup Fairy hasn’t picked your pockets this time! 😉 Hehe! As for myself, I’m crazy in love with three of the shades in particular, and yes, the formula is so comfortable!
