As a fan of bold, matte lipsticks, I was incredibly excited to receive a surprise package from PR featuring the new Maybelline Color Blur Matte Pencils by Lip Studio!
The Maybelline Color Blur Matte Pencils hit stores across Canada in August, but I am too excited to wait until then to share photos and quick swatches, so I’m showing you now!
What appeals to me is that the Maybelline Color Blur Matte Pencil is a slender stick that’s narrower than a traditional lipstick, but it’s not as thin as a lip liner. This makes it easier to have more control during application, which is very important, especially when using bright or vampy shades that aren’t as forgiving as nudes.
Right off the bat, I like the packaging because it has that modern-and-clean look, and the tube is a nice size that can easily fit into your purse without being overly chunky.
It’s retractable. By twisting the bottom of the tube (near the smudger), it pushes more product up. This is great because you won’t have to bother with a pencil sharpener.
There are lids on either end. One covers the lip colour, and the other houses the smudger. The smudger feels rubbery and soft, much like an eraser. (P.S. When I was little, I used to collect novelty erasers of ones that were shaped like grapes, houses, butterflies, soccer balls, basketballs, rainbows, etc.)
The smudger can be used to blur the lip colour, and you can create an ombre effect. (Later in this post, I tested it out by combining two colours in a swatch.)
P.S. In case you missed it, I’m having a worldwide giveaway until June 19th, 2015! Enter for your chance to win the China Glaze Baby Beats Micro Mini Set!
First thing’s first!
I have to show you the amazing care and attention to detail that Maybelline’s PR put into the package they sent me. (It contained these lip pencils, but also other makeup goodies, the official press release, and a booklet with information about the upcoming Fall/Winter 2015 trends!)
The black box lined with black tissue paper and the black ribbon tied into a bow looks sharp! And I could see the human touch, which I really appreciate.

Hehe, the name “I Like to Mauve It” makes me laugh because in a previous blog post, I made a joke with the same phrase without knowing about this lip product! (See the post I’m talking about here.)

Here’s a closer look:
Maybelline Color Blur Matte Pencil Smudger
The smudger has a triangular tip with two flat sides that meet in the middle with a point.
(By the way, if you follow me on social media, you may remember that last year, I rolled up my sleeves and painted an accent wall in my home. I finally was able to get a colour-accurate photo of it when I was trying to focus on a product and not on the wall. Hehe, of course! The green background you see in the below photo is the living-room accent wall I painted.)
I used the smudger on the word “BLUR”. Also, I tried using it to create an ombre effect with two colours on the right: Pink Insanity and Fast & Fuchsia. (The more you work with the lip colour, the more of a seamless transition you can create.)

Undefined the Rules of Colour
Maybelline New York Color Blur Matte Pencil by Lip Studio
A bright lip can be a girl’s best accessory. Now, bold lips are getting blurred thanks to the NEW Maybelline New York Color Blur Matte Pencil by Lip Studio. Women can look effortlessly sexy with this unique and innovative lip pencil.
TWO WAYS TO WEAR
Conor Blur Drama Matte Pencil contains a vivid matte lip colour at one end and an exclusive blurring smudger at the other, creating a unique synergy between the formula and blur the colour to the edge of the lips with the cushion smudger. If you prefer a bolder lip, just use the pencil side to get a creamy matte, full-on intense lip look that leaves them smooth and soft.
TREND ALERT
While the ombre lip made its debut a few seasons ago, blurred pouts are being spotted on some major runways during Fall/Winter 2015 fashion weeks, including at Alexander McQueen, MSGM, David Dixon and Hayley Elsaesser. Whether lips are slightly blurred or coloured with different hues for a multitoned, ombre effect, bold lips are a must this fall.
NEW Maybelline New York Color Blur Matte Pencil by Lip Studio will be available at drugstores and mass retailers across Canada as of August 2015 at a suggested retail price of $11.99.

Which are your favourite shades? If you could create an ombre effect with three colours in this collection, which would they be? Do you have a favourite lipstick? (If so, what is it?)
These are super exciting!!’ Missing some nude shades though
Hey Samantha,
On me, I Like to Mauve It is almost a nude. It’s so close to my natural lip colour that it works a bit like a rosier nude! But yes, I can see that a lot of people would want a nude that leans either brown, tan, or beige.
This is great! I would try them if I didn’t already have a ton of lippies.

Hey Abbi!
Haha, I have tons of lipsticks, but well, aside from being a nail junkie, I’m a lip junkie, too! 😉 So I was way too excited to try these. They’re amazing!
I hope that these will come to Finland cause they look absolutely amazing 🙂
Things tend to take FOREVER to reach us though 😉
New follower 🙂 You have an amazing blog 🙂

Hey Shortylegsbeauty!
Aww, really hope that they make their way over to Finland because they are so amazing – great colours and a long-lasting formula.
Thank you for following my blog! Please come back again soon, as I’m posting new content often!
I’m not a big fan of make up (except for polish of course) but these look great. I’ll be checking into get a couple of them. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Melissa!
You will love them! Most of the colours are so easy to wear. 🙂
These look like fun! Can’t wait to add them to my makeup collection. Honestly I love them all. I can’t even pick a favorite. The three colors that I would choose to do an ombre effect with would be I’m Blushing, MY-My Magenta & Plum Please.

Hey Sasha!
I haven’t been this excited in a drugstore lipstick like these in a while. They are amazing!
I find the color range disappointing but I’m curious to try out Plum Please.
Hey Verena!
I understand that the range is limited, but all of them except for the hot pink are right up my alley. I loved wearing them, and the formula is so long-lasting! 🙂
I’m trying to find where they sell them, looked on boots and super drug website, no joy
