I’ve been using the popular MoroccanOil Oil Treatment or the One ‘n Only Argan Oil Treatment on my hair daily with great results, but then I heard about the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil and became curious about if it would work just as well.
I also liked how the Josie Maran Argan Oil is pure and organic, unlike the other treatments, which contain tons of other ingredients.
By itself, the 50 mL bottle is quite pricey at around $58 CAD, but I purchased a limited-edition value kit that included this plus a few other Josie Maran products.
On the kit’s box, it says that you get a $120 USD value for just $64 USD, and two of the items are full-size products. So, I decided to spend just a bit more to get the extra value kit.
So when I made the switch to Josie Maran’s Argan Oil, was it a good move, or did I regret it? There’s only one way to find out! 😉

This is the kit I bought from Sephora’s website.
(It’s no longer available, and it sold out pretty quickly. I wish I had bought more than one, but at the time, since I didn’t know how well it worked, I didn’t want to be stuck with multiples in case I didn’t like it.)

Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Review
Efficacy
Since I was originally using the other oils (MoroccanOil or One ‘n Only) on my damp hair after washing it, right before styling it, I initially put the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil to the test on my tresses.
I was really happy to see that it tamed the frizz, added a beautiful shine, and made my hair look healthier.
Also, you just need a few drops for all your hair, and it doesn’t leave any nasty residue or sticky feeling. Your hair is left feeling healthy and silky smooth. I really love it!
I also found that it protected my hair from the blow dryer and the flat iron’s heat since my hair didn’t look quite as fried afterwards.
It worked just as well on my hair as the other Argan oils did. But I prefer Josie Maran’s because it’s 100% pure, organic Argan oil. I feel better about using something that is completely natural over something that is synthetic.
Fragrance
There was a very faint ‘nutty’ aroma, but it wasn’t too noticeable to me. And this is coming from someone who is very sensitive when it comes to fragrances.
I could smell it just a little, and once it was on my hair and I finished drying my hair, I couldn’t really detect a smell. I liked that because I didn’t have to worry about the Argan Oil clashing with my perfume.
Versatility
The Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil gets major points over the other Argan oils because Josie Maran’s can be used on other areas, not just on your hair! You can use it on your face, your body, your cuticles, and you name it!
I’ve tried it on all of the above, and I’m loving it!
Wait a Minute! You Put Argan Oil on Your FACE?
At first, I was really nervous to do that because who wants to have a face that looks like you could fry an egg on it? But, I read a lot of reviews before I purchased the Argan Oil, and there were plenty of raves.
I took the plunge, and I’m pleased to report that it didn’t make me break out. Also, I loved how the oil felt very soothing and moisturizing without feeling heavy. Instead of sitting on the surface of my skin like I thought it would, the Argan Oil absorbed into my skin after I rubbed it in for a bit.
I used just a few drops for my entire face, and at first, I used it only at night. After I saw the impressive results, I decided to use it also in the morning under my moisturizer and loose-mineral foundation.
It didn’t leave me shinier than normal, and it made my skin feel so good. Using this Argan Oil has now become part of my morning skincare routine.
Argan Oil for Skin
Since it made my face and hair look and feel great, I decided to test it out on my hands, cuticles, and rough patches that would crop up on my arms sometimes during the winter. It did a wonderful job at healing dryness, and I love how this oil has so many uses!
On the value-kit box, it says that Argan Oil has a natural high concentration of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids that work to help alleviate dry skin and rough patches.
Also, it says that it can be used to help minimize the look of fine lines, even around sensitive areas like the eyes.
You can use the oil to soften your cuticles and even remove makeup. (I don’t actually recommend that you use this to remove makeup. This oil is expensive, and you can remove makeup with cheap products. Save this oil for your skin and hair!)
Packaging
It comes in a dark glass bottle to protect it from deteriorating in quality due to being exposed to the light.
Sure, the packaging is basic and no-nonsense, but it doesn’t bother me at all because what it contains is pretty much magic! 🙂
The top unscrews and reveals what looks like an eye dropper. It’s important that the Josie Maran Argan Oil comes with this because it reminds you that you’re not supposed to just slather it on. You only need literally a few drops for whatever area you’re treating.
Value
Had I known how much I was going to fall in love with Josie Maran’s Argan Oil, I would’ve bought several of the limited-edition Nourishing Argan Matchmaker Complexion value sets because it contains $120 USD worth of products (2 products are full-size) for just $64 USD!
Unfortunately, it sold out online, but you may be able to still find a few at your local store (with some luck)!
The next time her products come in sets like this, I’m going to have to remember to snatch up a few.
Also worth noting is that even though it seems like this Argan Oil is very expensive, just remember that you’re using just a few drops at a time, so it will last you a long time. Also, because you can use it for your hair and skin, you can eliminate having multiple products. Simplifying my routine is soooo worth the money for me. Plus this isn’t just some Argan Oil mixed in with tons of chemicals and fillers. It’s 100% pure and organic. I think that’s worth the high price tag.
Paraben-Free, Animal-Friendliness, etc.
Josie Maran’s Argan Oil is paraben-free, in case that’s a concern for you.
The Pure Argan Oil is also cruelty-free, vegan, and gluten-free. It doesn’t contain any synthetic fragrances, either.

Final Verdict: 10/10
If I could be silly and give this an 11 out of 10, I would! This Argan Oil by Josie Maran certainly lived up to the hype for me. I’m a convert, and I’ll never go back to using those other products that only pretended to be Argan Oil. This one’s the real deal – you can’t beat 100% pure, organic Argan Oil!
After trying it, I gave my mom her own bottle, and she loves the stuff, too. (My mom’s super picky and is even more sensitive about fragrances than I am, so the fact that she really enjoyed it and uses it should tell you right there that this is like liquid gold!)
If you use hair serums and facial moisturizers, I recommend that you give this a shot if you can afford the high price tag. It’s worth every penny, and this is the type of product that you’ll feel good about using because you can see an improvement in the way your skin and hair look and feel.
Do you use Argan Oil? If so, what have you used it for? Have you used this or any of Josie Maran’s other beauty products?
I love JM AO – I have used it on body and hair since it first came out or about 4 months after it released. I also have tried the JM AO for hair and I adore that – the touch of silicone in it really helps detangle my hair after washing. Prior to using either one, my hair was really starting to look dry and frizzed which it never has been…ah life after 50 I guess? I also have now grown my hair out which I could never have done without this product. I do use it as a leave in over night with a travel/salon shower cap over it every now and then – but I also have some deep conditioner leave in over night by WEN that works great too. But all in all my hair really responds well to this product. For body, it’s a little too slick for me. I like the Maracuja oil by Tarte better for body use.
Oh and I watch for the super size of it sold on QVC – it’s the best value you can get in this product. I tend not to like the other products in this collection you got from Sephora..in fact I don’t think there are any other JM products I really adore like I do the 100% pure oil other than the one for hair she makes – the hair one has some geranium oil in it and that scent has always been a huge fav of mine.
Hey beachgal!
I hope QVC ships to Canada because if so, I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for the super size! Thanks for the heads up!
Hey beachgal!
I’ve never tried her formula for strictly hair. Would you say it works better than the original argan oil that I have? (I was trying to get away from silicone to see if my hair would like straight-up argan oil. So far, so good! :D)
What a great idea to use it as an overnight treatment! I’m going to have to try that one night! Thanks for the idea.
The Josie Maran Argan Oil is very very out of my price range, even the value kit, having to support my family of 5 on a single salary. I ordered some Argan Oil from ebay and have been using it for my hair, my face, my hands, and anything else that is dry. I added it to my skin cleansing oil that I use at night and it has done wonders! My skin always feels soft and hydrated and the dry patches on my cheeks are gone completely (I have very combination skin). I mix it with my night time moisterizer and it soaks right in. This stuff is like MAGIC! I love it and hope it isn’t just a passing fad, I hope to be able to buy it for a long long time.
Hey Heidi!
I understand that it’s very pricey. 🙁 I wish it were more affordable so that everyone could truly enjoy the miracle that is this liquid gold!
Wow, but very good of you to have your priorities in check. Supporting your family is a very difficult thing to do, so kudos to you! I have no family to support, so I can splurge like this.
Glad to hear that you found some Argan Oil within your means from eBay! 🙂 AWESOME!
How is this different from the 100% organic argon oil you can get on Amazon for $25?
http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Organic-100-Argan-Oil/dp/B004S2G4FG/ref=cm_cr_dp_asin_lnk
Hey Laura!
That’s a good question. I’m not sure since I’ve never bought Argan Oil from Amazon before. But, wow, $25 is so much less expensive than this one.
The product is exactly the same, the only difference is the branding. Mary, if you’re willing, you should do a comparison post. Now Foods 100% organic Argan Oil is $14USD for 60ml on Amazon.
Now Foods is a good brand, too! I think I’ve taken vitamins from that brand once. Maybe I’ll go to the local health-food store to see if it’s in stock. Thanks for letting me know!
I love, love, love Josie Maran’s products! I am addicted to the powder that is only sold on QVC so far, but I’m hoping she starts selling it at Sephora at some point. But I do agree with some of the other posters that if you just want to use the plain argan oil, you can get other brands for half the price and it’s the same stuff. But I do like her other products like the whipped argan oil lotion and the facial cleanser because they just smell so super good!
Hey Claire!
There’s a powder for sale? Is it dry shampoo? What does it do? I’ve never heard of it before, but I’m curious like a cat!
Josie Maran is NOT GLUTEN FREE. SHE STATES THIS ON HER SITE. SHE USES WHEATGERM OIL.
Hey JoannaJoanna!
According to the packaging of the argan oil I have of hers, it’s supposed to be gluten-free.
I wish I had the money to try this oil… Since my hair is quite freezy and is very curly.
Hey Gisela!
One of my co-workers told me that she uses coconut oil on her hair. She mixes just a little with water and then massages it into the ends to tame frizz. I’ve never tried it, but that might be something you could look into that’s more affordable than this argan oil. It’s worth a shot, right? 🙂
