If Hard Candy Sky means anything to you (and it should, if you’re a nailphile), you’ll be in the same corner as me, jumping up and down, squealing with joy!
I came home from work the other day to this wonderful surprise:Â Hard Candy Sky Nail Polish & 20th Anniversary Goodies!
Yes, that’s right – Hard Candy is celebrating their 20th anniversary this month. (Edit: These items will be available in May.) The spring-themed box immediately brought a huge smile to my face. I remember the 1990s very well. I read Seventeen and YM magazines, soaking up every fashion pictorial, reading each advice column, learning beauty tips, and drooling over the cute guy of the moment.
Hard Candy Sky is a light-blue nail polish that was advertised in many of the magazines I pored over with friends, and its iconic shade brings back so many memories of when I was coming of age.
No, I never had the original Hard Candy Sky nail polish. Money was tighter than shrunken hipster pants when I was growing up. (I rarely had the fashion or makeup that was trendy or ‘cool’, but that didn’t stop me from being happy and appreciating what I did have.)
It really meant so much to me that Hard Candy surprised me with this special 20th anniversary box! 🙂
Also, in case you haven’t heard, Hard Candy is relaunching Sky (the nail polish that started it all) and other classics. Avid makeup and nail junkies, take note! (They’ll be available at Wal-Mart stores.)
In this post, I share with you some quick photos of Hard Candy Sky, the Top Ten Eyeshadow Collection, and a cute USB key. (How did they know that I needed a new USB key? Hehe, and it’s shaped like a Hard Candy nail-polish bottle, which is even better!)

Are you also excited about Hard Candy relaunching Sky? Do you own the original Hard Candy Sky nail polish? What are some of your favourite makeup items and nail polishes from the 1990s?
Wow Mary! That is one big surprise. I never use hard candy before, but I might have to check them out.
Hey Robbie!
Definitely grab Sky! I feel like it’s part of history. 🙂
OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to have to remember to keep my eyes open for this. O_O

Hey Lizzy!
Snatch up Sky while you still can. Every nailphile’s collection needs it. It’s part of lacquer history, as far as I’m concerned!
great eyeshadow palette
Hey Icequeen81!
I’m looking forward to playing around with it! 🙂
Never had the original, glad it’s getting re-released. It would be awesome if Revlon Streetwear was still around. I loved that line!
Hey P Pisares!
Oh yes! I remember the Revlon Streetwear polishes. They had so many edgy shades. I’d buy those if they ever release them!
SWOOOOONNNNN!!!

Hey Lacey!
Hehe, that was my reaction, too!
Very cool! I love that these polishes are coming back. They’re so much fun. I love the goodies you got, especially the USB drive. Very cute! 🙂
Hey Melissa!
I love it when a company pays attention to colours that customers loved and that are cult classics and then bring them back for more people to enjoy!
I did have Sky but pastels were never my thing. (I did wear it for Easter this year.) I prefer some of the others, like Jailbait and Scam. Anyway, I’m glad to see them acknowledging the old classics!
Hey Mel!
It’s so cool that they’re resurrecting shades. It’s like a blast from the past in the best way possible!
Never had sky, but I did have Alumina, which was my one and only purchase back in ’96 at Bloomingdales. If memory serves me correctly, I believe I paid $15 for that bottle of polish. Of course, it came with a ring, as well. It’s still hard to believe that Hard Candy went from being a department store buy to one that is now, exclusive to mass-market Walmart, for quite a number of years now. It seems to be the trend with many mid-tiered brands. Walking into Target, there are so many brands, like , Acure, Laneige, LaRoche Posay, Nuxe, etc., that, 10 years ago, you’d only be able to purchase online. And the pricing is competetive. The buying power of Walmart and Target is undeniable. And we reap the benefits.
Congrats to Hard Candy for 20 years in the biz.
Hey Melisa!
Oh, that’s amazing how you have the original Alumina! 🙂 I wish I bought an original Hard Candy nail polish back in the day. Haha, I loved nail polish back then, but I wasn’t the nailphile as I am now, and I was a kid, so I didn’t have any money to buy anything!
It’s interesting to me, too, how Hard Candy went from being high-end to a mass-market product. I’m happy that now more people can afford to enjoy their cosmetics and polishes. Less elitist!
