Y’know: I never feel too guilty whenever I’m on a shopping spree at the elf site. I’ve gotten 20 items for less than $20 before (not including shipping) thanks to their affordable prices and frequent promotions.

Normally I only really load up on their nail polishes (most are awesome), mineral eyeshadows (some are great), or their brushes (hit and miss). But on the last haul, I decided to venture into less-familiar territory (at least for me). e.l.f. Camilia Shimmering Facial Whip is one of those products that I’ve never tried before until recently. And I’m kinda, sorta, actually really liking this product.

It’s not a product I deem completely necessary. But for days when you have an extra 30 seconds and want to brighten your face, this is a winner!

elf Camilia Shimmering Facial Whip Review

Color

Elf Camilia Shimmering Facial Whip is a silvery lilac shade. Just looking at the tube, I thought the color might be too dark and unnatural against my skintone. But it actually works very well and blends right in.

The shimmer is soft: you don’t see it much on the skin unless you catch the light. Then it really reflects to give you great highlight.

Scent

I was surprised that Shimmering Facial Whip in Camilia by elf has a scent to it. On their site, it says it’s Sugar Orange. That’s a good way to describe it. As you’re putting it on, you really do get a citrusy smell. But after you’re done applying, the fragrance is gone, so it doesn’t cause irritation.

Consistency

I wouldn’t exactly call this “whipped.” It’s more like a thick liquid. It’s soft and smooth, but it doesn’t spread very far. You can blend and spread it out a bit, but where you put it is basically where the highlight will be.

How It Feels On

Before it completely dries, Camilia elf Shimmering Facial Whip feels tacky to the touch. But wait about 10 seconds, and the tackiness goes away. It’s very lightweight – you don’t actually feel it on the entire day.

Longevity & Where to Wear

I’m impressed! Depending on where I apply this, Camilia Shimmering Facial Whip by e.l.f. can last me the entire day. I love it under the brow bone because the highlight is there even after I go to the gym at night. I like it as a cheek highlight, too, as that stays on fairly well.

The only place where I’ve used it and it hasn’t stayed is on the corners of my eyes. But I think it’s because I touch my eyes a lot during the day and basically rub it away.

I also don’t really like on the lips (it says on the packaging that you can use it there). The shimmer gives my lips an instant pick-me-up, but I feel the formula is a bit drying on the lips. If I do use it there, I usually just put a little right in the center for a pouty look.

Tube

Maybe I got a defective piece, but the cap on mine is really wonky. I can’t ever screw it back on properly without trying a few times. Also, as soon as I open the cap, a little bit of the product would squirt out, no matter how careful I am with handling the tube.

    Pros

  • Brand does not test on animals
  • Versatile: can be worn on eyes, cheeks & lips
  • Dries quickly
  • Adds instant highlight
  • Easy to work with/apply
  • Lightweight
    Cons

  • Cheap packaging with wonky cap

Final Verdict: 9.7/10

I got a few colors of this. (Duh!) I had ordered Pink Lemonade, but the packaging says “Pink Lemonada.” No big deal. The little sticker on the cap, however, says “Persimmon.” I e-mailed elf to ask them which one it really is, but their response was that they’re sending a new one right away. I kind of feel bad since their products are so cheap already. I don’t mind that I got Persimmon instead; I just wanted to know which color I was using! But I’m glad their customer service wants to make it right!

What do you think of this product – necessary or unnecessary? Do you like using highlight on your eyes, lips and face?

Oh yeah, they’re amazing. I’ve never had any issues with my elf orders before, but I contacted them this time about an issue with another Shimmering Facial Whip (Pink Lemonade). Without even me asking for a replacement, they responded by saying they’ve already sent one out to my address!

I didn’t complain about the packaging of Camilia to them because that’s the only complaint I have about this product. So I didn’t want to waste the company’s money with getting a replacement for it and have them pay for delivery cost again. Everything else was awesome about this item.
