Who says that two heads (or two polishes) are better than one? 😉
With the new China Glaze Tranzitions Collection, you get two amazing shades in a single bottle of nail polish!
Basically, you can transform the colour of any of these polishes by applying a clear top coat.
It’s a very cool concept, and this is going to facilitate easier nail art. I’m all for it!
Out of all the shades, the ones that appeal to me the most are Duplicity, Modify Me, and Altered Reality.
A few are heading my way, thanks to PR, so look out for my in-depth reviews soon!
P.S. Does anyone remember that old Sega game called Altered Beast? It was one of the few video games I enjoyed playing as a kid. (It was also one of the very few games I could play for more than a minute without dying. Haha!) The reason I’m bringing this up is because every time I saw “Altered Reality” in this press release, images of “Altered Beast” sprung to mind. Then my imagination ran wild and I had visions of a creme polish turning into a hairy polish…in true Altered-Beast form. 😉
The 6 shades in the China Glaze Tranzitions Collection are:
- Split Perso-Nail-ity
- Duplicity
- Modify Me
- Altered Reality
- Metallic Metamorphosis
- Shape Shifter
Official press release sent to me by PR:
COLOR + TOP COAT = ENDLESS CREATIVITY
China Glaze® Introduces Tranzitions Color Changing CollectionÂ
Los Angeles, CA – (October 2012): There’s nail art and then there’s China Glaze® nail couture. Reverse French manicure, half moons, ombre, basket weave, dots or racing stripes: nail designs are intricate and multi-colored. China Glaze® introduces a new way to get multi-color, unique nail art with fewer bottles of polish with the new color-changing Tranzitions collection!Â
China Glaze® Tranzitions’ revolutionary new nail lacquer reacts when a clear top coat is applied, changing the color from one shade to another for a stunning effect. Wear any of the six beautiful, color-shifting shades alone, or allow your creativity to run wild and create intricate nail designs by applying a top coat all over or strategically. Try different looks using nail art brushes, free-hand designs or nail guides. Because each shade changes color, you get two lacquers in one, creating an entirely new look with just one swipe.
The China Glaze® Tranzitions collection features six shades, though with the color transition, you get 12 unique shades including:
Split Perso-Nail-ity
Dusty pink shifts to fuchsia
(Click here to see my China Glaze Split Perso-Nail-ity Swatches & Review!)
Duplicity
Mint green shifts to vibrant teal
Modify Me
Periwinkle blue shifts to indigo blue
(Click here to see my China Glaze Modify Me Swatches & Review!)
Altered Reality
Teal blue shifts to turquoise
Metallic Metamorphosis
Silvery grey shifts to bluish-charcoal grey
Shape Shifter
Smokey violet shifts to dark purple
How It Works:
Step 1: Apply a base coat.
Step 2: Apply two coats of China Glaze® Tranzitions shade of choice. Allow to completely dry.
Step 3: Lastly, apply one coat of clear top coat such as China Glaze® Fast Forward and watch the color change right before your eyes.

Are you interested in the Tranzitions formula? Which of these shades is your top pick?
This sounds like fun. I always have such a hard time choosing complimentary colors for nail art especially when it is only 2 colors and this takes the work out of it and gets me on to the fun part,,, the art! I really like Modify Me and Duplicity and am sort of leaning toward Split Personality too. The darker grayer looking ones are just meh.
Hey Cindi!
Exactly! These polishes should take the guesswork out of what colours to pair together. Love the concept!
It’ll be interesting to see if they expand their colours eventually and have transitions that are far apart. e.g. pink turning to green or yellow turning to red. Wonder if that’s even possible!
I feel like I’ve seen something like this before. Interested to see what China Glaze brings to the table this time. (though I’m still waiting for their rumored new holos!!)

Hey Lizzy!
Do you remember the brand? I’d like to check it out! This is the first time I’ve heard of this concept, so I’m really excited to give them a spin.
Oh yes! I think I saw someone swatched the colours of those holos on a wheel, so I think it IS coming down the pipe. Very excited to see them listening to fans and how we’ve been craving holos!
I saw those too. They had them at Rite-Aid, the Polishaholic did a post on one of them here: http://www.thepolishaholic.com/2012/05/colorphase-nail-polish.html
Hehe, the polish bottles are so cute – little barbels! 😀 Thanks for sharing the link!
I actually saw these in stores already. If you go to Pacific Mall, there’s a store called Phoenix Beauty Lounge and it is amazing! They have so much diffeent nail polish and nail art supplies as well as some other hair and makeup stuff. You can even buy A-England, NYX Girls, Milani and the usual China Glaze, OPI, Essie and Orly. Also they get the new collections pretty fast. Anyways there store is great and you can buy stuff online like this collection.
Hey maddy!
Haha, yeah, that’s probably why I haven’t seen them in-store yet. I pretty much never go to Pacific Mall. But, it’s very cool that they get the collections so early. Hope their prices are pretty good, too. I bet they get a lot of customers by selling new collections ahead of mass retailers like Trade Secrets.
Did you get any polishes from the new collections?
I think I’m going to have to get my hands on Altered Reality. 😛
What a fun idea!

Hey Lilnol!
Hehe, I’m still reading it as “Altered Beast” instead of “Altered Reality”. And I’m picturing you getting your hands on an Altered Beast. Hehehe! Be careful that it doesn’t bite you!
These look pretty but it made me laugh when I first saw the ad because these are basically just matte polishes being advertised in a different way. All the matte polishes I own do the same thing 😀 That being said, I still like them because I do like me some matte nail polishes!
Hey Angela!
Oh, that’s a keen observation. I don’t really have many matte polishes, so I didn’t even realize this. I’ll have to test this out with an OPI matte polish I have! Coool!
The difference with the Tranzitions, though, is that even without a shiny top coat, they do have some shine. They’re just not super glossy.
