China Glaze Purr-fect Plum Swatches & Review

China-Glaze-Purr-fect-Plum-Swatches-ReviewHow’s the weather where you are? In the last little while, the temperature has taken quite a dip.

It’s beginning to feel like fall, and I’m excited because that means no humidity, which also spells no frizzy hair! (Woo hoo!)

When I think of autumn, the first colours that come to mind are reds, oranges, and bronzes. However, during this time of year, I really like rich grape tones and deep plums.

China Glaze Purr-fect Plum is from the On Safari Collection, and it’s a great fall shade! It looks more reddish and burgundy than my pictures would suggest, but in certain lighting, it can look a bit purplish.

Key Notes

China Glaze Purr-fect Plum Review

Colour

While I don’t think Purr-fect Plum by China Glaze is an original colour, I still think it’s a great conservative fall shade.

It’s dark without being a near-black and it seems to look slightly different depending on the lighting.

I think it’s because there’s a red undertone, so you get a berry tone that sometimes looks more purple and other times more burgundy.

When I wore this for the first time, I was in a meeting at work and, out of the blue, my boss told me he liked my nail polish and asked what colour it was. 😉 Hehe, yup, he knows all too well about my nail addiction. (Can’t hide it from anyone at work…not that I’m even trying to!)

Finish

Purr-fect Plum by China Glaze is a simple creme polish. It doesn’t have any bling, but the finish is beautiful and shiny, so that makes up for it.

I think there’s something really elegant and understated about a creme polish in a shade like this. And since I tend to wear a lot of flashy colours, this was a pleasant change of pace.

Application & Formula

The formula on this was slightly watery, so be careful not to load up your brush too much, or you might flood your cuticles. As long as you’re aware of that, you’ll have no major issues with this formula. It glides on smoothly, and you only need 2 coats to fully cover the nail line. Plus it has a wonderful shine!

Pros

  • Great conservative fall shade
  • Looks burgundy, more purple, and more red in different lighting
  • Creme finish makes it easier to remove
  • Smooth, pigmented formula
  • Shiny finish
Cons

  • Not the most original colour

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

Purr-fect Plum by China Glaze is a very traditional colour. For me, traditional colours are actually novelties since I don’t typically wear them.

I could still appreciate this one because the finish is nice and shiny. And I don’t feel like I have to fight and arm-wrestle with the formula – it goes on without a hiccup!

Do you wear plum polishes in the fall? What’s the most traditional lacquer you own and enjoy wearing? What’s the craziest colour you’ve ever worn?

I don’t blame your boss from noticing this lovely shade. You wear it really well.
I passed on it after hmmm-ING and hummmm-ING over it at the store … I’m feeling a pang of regret now but I have a few other plum shades that might fill the void for now.

Craziest shade I ever wore is CG Yellow Polka Dot Bikini (which I bought because of you 😉 )

      Hey Marta!

Haha, it totally caught me off-guard because we were having a normal, work-related discussion during a meeting. Then I think I pointed at something on a monitor, and that’s when he noticed my nails and commented. 😛 Maybe if he likes it so much, I can paint his nails with it. (Haha, yeah right! Now THAT would be quite good content for a blog post: “I Painted My Boss’ Nails…At Work!” Hahaha!)

Do you have Zoya Toni? It’s very similar and may soften the craving.

YESSSSSSSS! Neon yellow! (I hope to continually be as bad of an influence on you as you are on me…heheh!) Love ya, Marta!

      Hey Icequeen81!

That’s the beauty of a lot of creme finishes. 🙂 Y’know, sometimes when I get so caught up with glitters, shimmers, and duochromes, I forget how lovely a simple, classic creme can truly be! Then I wear one and remember right away…only to forget again. :S

Hi Mary, what a pretty shade for fall. Even though it isn’t blingy I like the rich deep shiny color.

Thank you for joining my blog, so I could find you there in Canada!

I have been to the Great White North twice, and I think Canadians are so friendly and awesome! Bob and Doug McKenzie are some of my favorites!

    SCTV was amazing.

Did not like this when it came out – thought not unique and also too red/brown for my skin tone. Now that it’s fall and being shown a ton on photos again and not being the forgotten shade of this collection but rather rising to the top of the heap as a great color for fall, I wish the collection was still around at Sally’s – it’s been long sold out now around where I live. I think I have some like shades in my older OPIs – I am going shopping in my stash to look!

      Hey beachgal!

Same here – I didn’t really give it the time of day before. And, to be completely honest, that’s also why I didn’t rush to wear it immediately when PR sent it to me. I had to try out a lot of the other shades in the collection first that caught my eye more.

But it’s good to venture out into new colour territory (new for me since I don’t usually wear stuff like this). The shine with the finish makes this polish great! 🙂

Hey, if you have Zoya Toni, it’s similar…

I recently bought this polish – you are the only blog that I have found that has photographed this well and look alike the actual colour you get!

Thank you for all your efforts.
