When I first heard of China Glaze Gaga For Green, thoughts of Lady Gaga dressed as a frog on a glittertastic lily pad came to mind.
Although Gaga For Green isn’t that dramatic, I still really loved wearing it because of how fresh and clean it looked. Plus the formula didn’t croak. 😉 It applied well.
You know that I have a soft spot for green nail polish, but it takes something extra to make me want to reach for it more than once.
China Glaze Gaga For Green has that something special, and I thought of a nail-art design I could do with it as the base. I’ll try to execute and photograph the idea sometime in March for a tutorial

China Glaze Gaga For Green Review
Colour
Gaga For Green by China Glaze is a fresh kind of green that reminds me of spring because it’s light and carefree.
It’s a simple shade of green that I respect. It’s easy for a polish with glitter to get your attention, but when you get a colour that’s simple, it’s not always easy for it to stand out in the Sea of Bells and Whistles.
Despite having a lot of greens in my collection, I really do like this one because of the finish. The colour, itself, isn’t that unique, but I think it’s nice. (If you don’t have tons of greens, this is a good one to have.)
Finish
I love this polish because the finish is an interesting hybrid between a creme polish and a jelly polish!
When I first saw Gaga For Green by China Glaze in the bottle, I thought that it was just going to be your standard creme. Then, I applied it and it didn’t look flat like a traditional creme – it has a little bit of depth…a shiny quality.
But unlike typical jelly polishes that are super sheer, I was able to use just 2 coats to cover most of my nail. In direct sunlight, I could see a little bit of visible nail line (which could be rectified with 3 coats), but in all other lighting, I found that 2 coats did the job.
Application & Formula
China Glaze Gaga For Green applied very sheer with the first coat, but the second did a great job covering the nail, as I mentioned earlier.
The formula itself is watery, so you have to be more diligent about application or you could risk flooding your cuticles.

Final Verdict: 9.5/10
I gave this polish a really high score because even though I have a lot of green polishes I love, it takes a lot for me to really love a green that’s free of glitter, holo, or other effects. The finish really drew me in.
Do you know of any other creme-jelly hybrid polishes? Do you have a go-to nail colour for the spring? Will you be going on a spring break this year?
Rats!
Looks like I’ll be making another Sally’s run this weekend.
To be honest, it seemed a bit of a letdown when I saw this one on the last trip. After anticipating an instant must-have, the green in the bottle looked a bit…well…flat. Looking at your swatches, it’s apparent that I was wrong and this springy green is undeniably appealing.
Reminder to self…Never judge a polish by the bottle.
Hey karen!
Haha, they’re seeing a lot of you. 😉
Yes, in the bottle, it doesn’t look like anything special. But there’s just something different about it when you paint it on. You’ll see that it doesn’t go on like a creme. It’s not a jelly because it’s more pigmented than that finish, but it’s shiny. 🙂
Hehe, yes, never judge a polish by a bottle…unless it’s Clarins 230 (Unicorn Pee). 😉 *Drools*
This color is pretty. I don’t own much greens but I want to get alot of the Electropop collection so I might get this. This winter break, I don’t think I’m doing anything.
Hey maddy!
The ElectroPop Collection has so many lively, fun colours, so I can see why you’re drawn to them. 🙂 Hope you manage to pick up one, two, or a few and enjoy them. 🙂 I feel like you could do a lot of neat spring nail designs with those colours. Have you thought of any designs you’d want to do with them?
It looks really nice even though i am no fan of green!

That’s really saying a lot coming from a non-green fan! 😀 Hehe, and imagine what it’s like for a hardcore green fan like me? Soaring sky high! 😀
haha, yes i pictured lady gaga with kermit! lovely green btw. I only got Sweet hook from the electropop collection but this has me wondering whether i should relook the other colours!

Hey Naomi!
Great nail-polish minds think alike! 😉
I’m also wondering about the other colours. If others have a cool jelly-creme finish like this, it might be worth taking a second look!
That is one pretty green! Must… resist… buying… Nah, green is cool! *adds to must-buy list*

that is a beautiful color!!! Your nails are just gorgeous and you paint them soooooo perfectly. I am so jealous!! Would be a great green to used for a Mardi Gras mani!!!
Hey Kay!
Awww…Thank you so much for the big compliment! *Blush* The formula has such a great finish!
YES, a Mardi Gras manicure with this would be awesome, too! 🙂
I love your swatches!
I saw this earlier in the week at Sally’s and couldn’t bring myself to buy it, thinking I wouldn’t like the green without any sort of effect to it. But on your nails it is just gorgeous.
Reminds me of a grass during the summer when it’s super healthy and flowers all around it!
Hey Stephanie!
It was a great surprise on the nail. 🙂 And your description sounds spot-on. It sure does remind me of fresh green grass, too.
It looks so fresh!!! Very nice color, although green is not my thing.. the blues from this collection though… aaaah… {drooling}. It looks really nice on you!!!

Hey Ivy!
I was surprised because even though I liked the colours in the collection, I didn’t know that I would fall so hard for this one!
Thanks for the laugh! I would totally not put it past Gaga to don a frog inspired outfit. In fact, I’m pretty sure it would be more stylish that that infamous meat dress!
This is actually a really pretty green. I like the dusty, almost soft quality it has. It’s vibrant but not in your face. Really enjoying these new versions of pastel shades for sure!

Oh Mary this is FABULOUS on you!!!!
I know one thing for sure, if I ever were to create a polish line I would name all my green shades in your name 😀 You pull them off so well and your love for green is contagious… I may not be brave enough to wear this, but I would be willing to dress up as a frog and sit on a sparkly lilly pad 😉 lol
