Smorgasbord Sundays: Working Out

Working OutA few years ago, I used to hit the gym every single day after work for an hour. It gave me a boost of energy, even if I had initially felt drained after work.

Then I stopped going and haven’t returned since.

Now, I’ve decided to start lifting weights to exercise my muscles and to bulk up a little bit.

Do you exercise on a regular basis? Do you have any suggestions for specific weight-lifting techniques that I can use to gain bigger muscle mass? Any nutritional tips are also appreciated!

Smorgasbord Sundays: I Got My First iPhone

iPhone-4s-smartphoneI’ve been pretty resistant to cell phones. Actually, I just got my first (and only) one about 3 years ago!

And even then, I went for a basic slider phone with a standard keypad (no keyboard), no data plan, and pretty much no frills. All I used it for was making calls and sending text messages.

But since the beginning of this year, I’ve been contemplating upgrading to a smartphone. Well, I finally bit the bullet and went for it just on Friday evening!

I chose the iPhone 4S because although I was tempted by a lot of the Samsung smartphones, I really liked the design and shape of the iPhone. And there are so many functions that I know I can ‘grow into’.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Bald Men

Bald Men Smorgasbord SundaysI rarely plan Smorgasbord Sundays posts in advance because I like to let inspiration hit me between the eyes spontaneously without shattering my spectacles.

This time I knew a couple of days in advance what I wanted to write about – Bald Men!

It may seem very random (and I suppose it is), but the recent remarks made by Justin Bieber were the instigator.

In case you don’t keep up with entertainment news, Justin Bieber publicly commented on the follicle-challenged Prince William in Rollercoaster magazine, a UK publication.

They quoted him as saying:

“I mean, there are things to prevent that nowadays, like Propecia,” Bieber said. He added, “I don’t know why he doesn’t just get those things, those products. You just take Propecia and your hair grows back. Have you not got it over here?”

Before you continue reading my post, I would like to state for the record that I’m not a fan of Prince William (or any of the Royal Family – they’re just people to me). Also, I’m not a fan of Justin Bieber or his music. It’s just a personal preference – no hatred toward either of these individuals.

In this post, I’ll tell you not only what I think of Justin Bieber’s comment, but also what I think of bald men in general.

Smorgasbord Sundays: From Mary’s Desk – Public Relations (PR) & Requesting Press Releases & Samples (Part 4)

PR-Public-Relations-Blogging-Public-Relations-PRPublic Relations (PR) is a topic that I’ve wanted to blog about for a very long time because I’m very opinionated on this, and I have so much to share.

In case you weren’t sure, in an overly simplified nutshell, PR is managing information between a company or an individual and the public.

For all brands, it’s very important that the company’s information is consistent, accurate, and positive. It’s in PR’s interest to make sure that press releases are sent to the right media sources and that the public views the company in the best possible light.

There’s a lot of pressure for PR firms, and I really respect and admire their work – it’s not easy. Even when scandals break out, the PR team has to work their tail feathers off to do damage control and to ensure that the public still views the company in a hospitable light. That takes sharp wit!

When it comes to blogging, PR often spells press releases and samples. This is what I’d like to address in this post because, although I’ve had only a few questions about how to get on PR lists, it’s enough to make me want to help…or at least outline what I did in case it helps.

Smorgasbord Sundays: London 2012 Olympics

London-2012-OlympicsHave you been watching the London 2012 Olympics?

While I don’t usually follow sports these days, the Olympics always gets my attention.

A lot of times, I’m on the edge of my seat, slanting on an angle towards the TV as though I’m ‘skiing’, especially when the  races are close.

Among my favourite summer events are gymnastics and swimming!

Last night (when I was preparing this blog post), I was watching the men’s 400m freestyle swimming competition.

Although I’m Canadian, it was really exciting to watch Ryan Lochte (an American) win the gold. And it’s too bad that Michael Phelps didn’t get any medals.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Felicity

Felicity TV ShowLately I’ve been watching reruns of Felicity, the TV show that was popular in the 1990s.

Oddly, I wasn’t a fan of it when it was running on TV. And even stranger is that my father was the one who got me into it.

(No, I’m not joking. And, no, my father wasn’t always a softie. He loved his action shows, but he could also appreciate something like Felicity. Now when I watch the show, I think of him, which brings a smile to my face.)

In this Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’m going to share my thoughts with you on some of the major Felicity TV Show characters for a bit of nostalgia that I think will be fun.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Who Let the Owls Out? Hoot! Hoot! Hoot!

Cool Owl ThingsAside from felines, my favourite animals are owls. Not only do they represent intelligence, but they look majestic and sometimes menacing.

(You’ll also know that I’m obsessed because many times when I shorten links for Twitter, I prefer to use ‘http://ow.ly‘!)

There are so many different species of owls, and I don’t have a favourite. They’re all amazing to me.

In this Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’m going to show you just a few of my favourite owl things that I own.

If you have some cool owl things to show me, feel free to post a photo on my Facebook wall!

P.S. You get 10 points if you actually laughed at my cheesy joke in the post’s title. 😉
