Smorgasbord Sundays: My New Glasses

New EyeglassesHere’s lookin’ at you, kid!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw a photo of me wearing my New Glasses with a look on my face that resembled a deer caught in the headlights. 😉

I have extremely bad eyes. I’m near-sighted, so I rely on glasses to see the world. Without them, I’m like a sitting duck.

I’ve tried contact lenses many years ago, but they seemed like they were really high-maintenance. Plus I wasn’t fond of having to clean the lenses and touch my eye so much. And my eyes are really sensitive in general, so contacts were another irritation.

But that’s okay. I’m comfortable wearing glasses, and I’ve been wearing them since around grade 5.

Lately, I decided it was time to invest in a back-up pair of eyeglasses in case anything happened to my primary pair. (My glasses are pretty much ‘my eyeballs’, so it’s important to have a back-up or else I literally wouldn’t be able to leave my house!)

So, these are my new back-up glasses. I really like them a lot, but they’re Size 47 frames instead of my older frames, which are Size 42.

These also came in a blue, which I thought looked nice, but the red seemed to brighten up my complexion. And the entire frame isn’t red. It’s just the top corner accents and the bridge that are metallic red.

In this post, I’ll show you a closer look at the frames.

Smorgasbord Sundays: A Rough Weekend for Me

CloudsThis weekend has been rough for me because yesterday marked the third year since my father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, not long after my birthday.

My mother is a practising Catholic, so she set up a mass at the local church to be dedicated to my dad. I went, but my brother and sister-in-law didn’t go.

To me, it’s weird to have memorials. I like to celebrate life, not remember the day my dad passed away. So, although it may sound really weird, when my dad’s birthday rolls around, I visit him at the cemetery and wish him a happy birthday. March 2 (the day he passed away) is a day that I’d rather not commemorate.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Pizza

Pizza with Spinach Mushrooms Tomato Pineapple Chicken HamIf you read last week’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, you’re well aware that the Cheshire Cat was out to get me.

(Thank you all for your concern. A special thank you to Lizzy for going out of her way to offer me getaway/fugitive transportation…hehe!) 😉

Well, I ended up turning myself in. The Cheshire Cat and I had a little chit chat down at the station. At first, he was all serious, but when I offered him a slice of pizza sprinkled with catnip, he seemed to ease up.

After he realized my good intentions, he dropped the ‘case’, and told his lead investigators to back off. I’m no longer on the run from the nail-polish law! 😉 And I’m pleased to report that I’ll continue being a lacquer addict.

I liked pizza before, but now I love it! It got me off the hook, after all.

And lately, I’ve been craving it like something fierce. Here’s the one I recently demolished.

Smorgasbord Sundays: The Dark Side of Swatch And Learn

Mary SwatchAndLearn negativeShocking News Revealed!

Mary of Swatch And Learn isn’t the squeaky-clean, friendly beauty blogger she pretends to be!

In this post, we air out her dirty laundry and show you physical evidence where all signs point to her being guilty as charged!

We also share quotes from eye witnesses with special insight into Mary’s whereabouts and daily behaviour.

Yesterday, on Instagram, was the first time her true nature was revealed!

If you spot her running through the crowds frantically to get to the nearest nail-polish display, call the police! For your own safety, do not approach her – she is considered armed and dangerous, as she is almost never without nail polish!

(If you’re reading this, Mary, you’re “BUSTED”! Stop the act, and turn yourself into the nearest Polish Police station. You’ll probably only receive 12 years in Lacquer Prison without parole. It’s the right thing to do! Think of how you’ve psychologically affected all the nail polishes by locking them up in total darkness in your Helmer!)

We’re pleading for the general public to take this matter seriously.

While her blog posts are upbeat and sprinkled with humour, don’t let that fool you. She is an evil mastermind trying to convert normal civilians to the dark side of becoming nailphiles, one polish review at a time!

Don’t get sucked into the madness!

The Special Investigations Unit has been keeping track of Mary’s daily polishing behaviour and following up on every lead. It’s only a matter of time before we kick down her door and take away all her nail polishes.

“A few days each week, I can smell toxic fumes wafting from her room”, said a reliable source who asked to remain anonymous. “She says that she’s just painting her nails, but I know better. She decapitates the poor polishes!”

Another insider has confirmed this, saying, “I’ve seen her unscrew the caps like it didn’t cause any pain to the nail polish!”  With a shaky voice, he continued, “It’s torture, and something must be done to stop her before it’s too late! How many more nail polishes must be harmed before the justice system takes action?”

Nail polishes cradle their firstborns in desperate attempts to shield them from Mary’s morbid desire to use their blood on her nails! And it’s all for vanity!

Base coats and top coats pray to a higher power that, one day, Mary will set them free, so they won’t have to be overworked on an almost-daily basis!

And now…continue reading this post to see our Special Investigations Unit’s physical evidence. With your cooperation and perseverance, perhaps justice will be served! Help us lock Mary away, so our nail polishes and their relatives can sleep soundly at night.

Smorgasbord Sundays: I Have the Map of London…on My Umbrella

Fulton London Map UmbrellaSure, it’s still winter, but I figure that if I blabber on about things for spring, maybe Mother Nature will bring on the milder weather. 😉

So, although there’s snow on the ground and it’s still chilly outside here in Canada, I’m blogging about an umbrella today.

This Fulton Map of London Umbrella is a manual, mini collapsible umbrella that opens up with a full-size cover.

Although this umbrella is the perfect size that fits in your purse easily, I like keeping it in my desk drawer in the office. It’s my “emergency” umbrella for when I didn’t bring an umbrella to work, but when I’m about to leave, there’s a downpour. D’oh!

(I brought it home to take photos of. 🙂 Now I’ll need to remember to bring it back to the office!)

What I love about this Fulton umbrella is that the underside has an accurate map of London! How cool is that? I’ve never been to London, England before, but this would come in handy if I ever visit.

I’ve never owned a black umbrella. When the weather is inclement, I love having fun or silly accessories.

Maybe in another post, I’ll show you the 2 clear large bubble umbrellas I have. One has multicoloured polka dots all over, and the other has a quirky birdcage design. If I show you those bubble umbrellas, I’ll need to ask a friend to take a photo of me holding them so you can see the full effect. Those umbrellas need to be shown off in all their glory!

Then I have a regular compact umbrella, but it’s in a bright pink, which makes me happy. I’ve looked for green umbrellas, but they seem to be hiding from me. Guess they know I’m an insatiable green fiend…

Smorgasbord Sundays & Nail Art: The Super Bowl & San Francisco 49ers Nails

Super Bowl San Francisco 49ers Nails Nail ArtHappy Sunday, everyone!

Okay, so normally my Smorgasbord Sundays blog posts are not beauty-related. However, because the Super Bowl is today and I did San Francisco 49ers Nails, I thought it was more timely to show you my manicure today instead of Monday.

(Hope you won’t mind seeing more nail polish than expected!) 😉

Also, if you’re not a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, you may want to check out the skittle nail art I did yesterday with the Baltimore Ravens team colours!

I haven’t ‘picked sides’ as to which team I want to win the Super Bowl.

I don’t follow the sport, but there’s so much excitement surrounding the Super Bowl every year that even this non-football fan wants to experience that. Sooo…I’ll be watching the game (and the commercials)! Oh yeah, and the dip with chips I plan to stuff my face with will also make the game more interesting. 😉

Smorgasbord Sundays: Still Not Feeling 100% Yet

Tylenol Complete Extra StrengthLast weekend, I got really sick and came down with the flu. Then, on Tuesday, I started to feel well enough to go back to work at the office, but I still wasn’t feeling 100%.

It must be a sign that I’m getting older because my body isn’t bouncing back to good health as quickly as it used to.

While I’m definitely not feverish or coughing anymore, I still have a weird light-headedness and crippling headache plus a lot of mucus in my nose and throat. Nasty, I know! (When I spoke to my mom on the phone, she said that I sounded like a duck!)

The weather really took a dip, and it’s been absolutely freezing, so I think that’s also a contributing factor to me not being able to shake this illness.
