Smorgasbord Sundays: I Like Painting Guys’ Nails

Men Wearing Nail PolishWhen I get bored, I often ask my male friends if I can paint their nails.

Most times they aren’t willing (haha), but the rare time they say yes, I jump on the chance to go buck wild. And then I snap photos with my camera before they change their mind.

And, yes, I got their permission to post these on here. I just had to promise that I wouldn’t identify them by name. 😉

Although I’m sure that I have at least two more photos from other guys, we can giggle over these for now. 🙂

I love it when people don’t take themselves too seriously and just have fun!

Smorgasbord Sundays: Ancient Egyptian Mythology & Gods

Anubis Egyptian Mythology & GodsThe first time I moved out to live on my own was such an exciting experience because not only was it a rite of passage into greater personal freedom, but it also meant that I could decorate my place to suit my style.

Back when I was in high school, interior-decorating shows were some of my favourite programs to watch. I learned so much about colour theory, making the most of small spaces, and clever ways to add personality to a room.

So when I was able to really put what I learned into a concrete project, I was over the moon and into the stars!

Among some of the many home-decor items I found and fell in love with were three badass sculptures of Egyptian gods. To this day, they’re still some of my favourite items.

Come see more detailed photos of each sculpture, and I’ll also tell you a brief background on each of the gods.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Favourite YouTubers

YouTube Swatch And LearnI love preparing nail-art tutorial blog posts for you because it’s creative, fun, and challenging.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of one day getting on YouTube and filming tutorials for you since sometimes it’s easier to see someone actually paint their nails on video instead of just relying on step-by-step photos.

These days, I’ve been having a lot of fun watching lacquer-loving YouTubers. In this Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’ll share with you just a few of my favourite ones.

Which YouTube channels do you watch? Do you have your own channel?

Smorgasbord Sundays: Saving Money

Swatch And Learn Smorgasbord Sundays Saving MoneyWe’re nearing the end of January, and I know that some of you made New Year’s resolutions.

How are they going so far? Have you started yet?

I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions only because throughout the entire year, I’m continually making resolutions.

Currently, I’m trying to save more money and buy fewer beauty products.

(Yes, that’s right – I’m actually trying to not get sucked into the ‘But the Packaging Is So Darn Cute’ black hole!) Continue reading

Smorgasbord Sundays: Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen Degeneres Seriously...I'm KiddingHumour is one of the most important things in my life.

These days I’ve found myself reaching for books that make me laugh or that at least make me smile.

Seriously…I’m Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres was one of the books that I recently finished, and it’s one that I recommend highly – you’ll breeze right through it because you won’t want to put it down.

I’m a fan of Ellen DeGeneres, but not to the point where I’d pay $50 for a piece of gum she chewed. I would, however, pay $50 for a $100 bill she touched. 😉

Seriously…I’m Kidding has a great tone – it’s more like a friend talking with you than it is like an author writing to you. And if you like Ellen’s laid-back attitude and warm personality, you’ll definitely appreciate this book. Continue reading

Smorgasbord Sundays: From Mary’s Desk – Pictures & Swatches (Part 2)

Swatch And Learn From Marys Desk Part 2 Smorgasbord SundaysWelcome to the second installment of From Mary’s Desk, a series focusing on issues that bloggers face on a daily basis. (See Part 1 here.)

Even if you’re not a blogger, I urge you to read this because it’ll give you a little peek backstage.

This time, I tackle the pressure of taking pictures.

Although I’m not a professional photographer and I haven’t taken any photography lessons, I’ll share basic tips and tricks that I’ve learned since the beginning of Swatch And Learn.

I hope that veteran bloggers will chime in and share their experiences when they first started out so that this may provide comfort and reassurance to new bloggers. And, I hope that new bloggers will say what they’ve been struggling with to help others realize that they’re not alone.

The underlying theme of the From Mary’s Desk series is that learning is a two-way street. And on that street, there’s a streetcar named Desire. And in that streetcar is Marlon Brando. And…wait a minute, stop distracting me! 😉

Warning: This blog post is text heavy! Continue reading
