Smorgasbord Sundays: American Idol

American Idol Top 13 Contestants Swatch And LearnHave any of you been watching American Idol? Do you prefer The Voice? Or are you tired of reality-competition shows?

Some seasons of American Idol are boring, but I’m enjoying this year’s. The judges did a good job of assembling a talented group of individuals, each with different personalities.

I’m in Canada, so I haven’t been voting, but if I could, I’d support one singer. She’s female. Can you guess who it is?

Smorgasbord Sundays: From Mary’s Desk – How to Plan & Execute a Blog Giveaway (Part 3)

How to Plan a Giveaway for a Blog SwatchAndLearnIt has been a while since my previous installment of From Mary’s Desk, so I thought that it was fine time for this Smorgasbord Sundays post.

Today’s topic is How to Plan and Execute a Blog Giveaway.

I think that this might be especially helpful to those who are new to blogging and have been considering running a giveaway.

Some things I’ll go into more detail about are why a giveaway could be a good idea for your blog, how to choose what to offer, sponsored giveaways, online giveaway tools, how long you should run your giveaway, etc.

No, I’m not an expert on blog giveaways, but I have run a few in the past on Swatch And Learn, and along the way, I’ve learned a thing or two.

Smorgasbord Sundays: I Have a Soft Spot for Cats

Cute Cat PhotosAlthough I think puppies are adorable, none of them can take the soft spot in my heart like furry felines.

When I was in the 1st grade, I got my first kitten (after asking my parents for a few weeks). It was pretty funny because I went to my dad first – he usually caved more than my mom. (Yup, psychology as a child…)

My dad said, “Ask your mom.” So I did. She said, “Ask your dad.” 😛 Haha!

Finally, though, they both said yes under the condition that I agreed to take responsibility of feeding it, changing its water bowl, and cleaning the litterbox for some of the time. Of course I agreed!

For today’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, I decided to ‘out myself’ as a cat lover. Since I don’t have many photos of my own cats on this computer, I chose to share some photos of other cuties that I’ve found so that we can say, “Aww!” together. 😉

P.S. The cat you see on my blog (wearing the top hat and monocle) is my mom’s cat, Pingu. (She didn’t name him that. He was actually my brother and sister-in-law’s cat, but they were going to take him to the shelter after they had him for around 2 years! So, back when I was living at home, we decided to keep Pingu and ‘save’ him.)

Smorgasbord Sundays: I’m a Fan of Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey Swatch And LearnMusic has always been a huge part of my life. I use it for emotional support – crazy beats pump me up and dainty, mellow tunes calm my spirit.

Some people have a certain genre that speaks to them, but I enjoy a crazy diversity. Truly!

I have everything from L’il Wayne and Adele to Fiona Apple and Mazzy Star on my iPod. And there’s a sprinkling of Etta James, Mariah Carey, Ne-Yo, Bob Marley, and The Flaming Lips.

Basically, if a song moves me, I’ll listen to it, regardless of what genre it’s from.

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Lana Del Rey.

Smorgasbord Sundays: The Original Beverly Hills 90210 TV Show

Beverly Hills 90210 TV Show Smorgasbord SundaysFist pumping during the opening theme song. Electric-guitar music for scenes with Dylan McKay. Baggy, high-waist jeans and floral-print dresses.

Beverly Hills 90210 was one of my favourite shows back in the 1990s, and it was one of the hottest things on TV.

All of my friends watched it, gushed about which guy they had a crush on, and even tried to emulate the fashion (which now is pretty comedic).

I have the first 4 seasons on DVD, and I’ve been watching a few episodes here and there when I feel like reminiscing.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Lilacs Are My Favourite Flowers

Purple Lilacs Spring FlowersDespite being a Canadian, I’m not a fan of snow or the cold weather unless I’m looking outside a window with a cup of hot chocolate or a caramel latte in my hands. 😉

Before we know it, spring will be here. I can hardly wait! Can you?

Spring spells more rain, but I actually like carrying an umbrella. You know those clear, domed ones? Those are the kind I like, but haven’t been able to find an affordable one yet. And I’ve been tempted to buy a frog umbrella – the green ones that have the ears sticking up.

And when I think about spring, I can’t help but think about lilacs. They’re by far my favourite flowers because they smell heavenly and they have clusters of tiny flowers!

What are your favourite flowers?

It’s such a shame that lilacs don’t last very long in the spring, but perhaps that’s a reminder for us all to appreciate the good things while they are here. 😉

In today’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’ll share with you some photos of lilacs as well as interesting information about them.
