China Glaze Trendsetter Swatches & Review

China Glaze Trendsetter Swatches & ReviewWhenever I eat veggie dogs (vegetarian hot dogs) or veggie burgers (vegetarian burgers), I always have to put ketchup, relish, and mustard on it.

I prefer the Dijon mustard because it has that little kick to it that mixes well with the other flavours.

Are you a fan of mustard? Even if you don’t like eating it, perhaps you’ll like wearing it.

(No, I’m not gonna start a food fight. Don’t worry! :P)

China Glaze Trendsetter is a very unusual (but really cool-looking) mustard yellow that has a touch of green to it!

I really like it, but I don’t think it looks so hot on me. I dunno…what do you think? Continue reading

OPI Bubble Bath Swatches & Review

OPI Bubble Bath Swatches & ReviewHere’s a demure polish that’s way outside my comfort zone. It’s the popular OPI Bubble Bath.

Seeing this polish on my fingernails was strange – like being transported into an episode of The Twilight Zone…except not nearly as cool.

I’ve had it in my stash ever since I got into nail lacquer more seriously, but I only busted it out now. That shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone considering my swatching history.

Truth be told, I’m much more comfortable having a bright or loud hue on my nails than I am having something soft on them.

And while I’ve seen people embrace the Mannequin Hands trend, I couldn’t really see myself joining in. But sometimes you just gotta try to see if you like it.

While I think the colour doesn’t clash with my skin tone like I thought it would, I’m still not completely loving it on me.

Because it’s so discrete, every time I looked down at my nails, I felt like I needed to paint them. I felt naked! It was like wearing a lace bra over your t-shirt. I felt very self-conscious (and un-Lady-Gaga-like).

Maybe it just takes some more getting used to. I’ll try other Mannequin Hand-esque polishes to find out for sure. Perhaps I’ll grow to appreciate them. Or maybe you can take the horse to the water, but you can’t make it drink…haha! 😛

Do you like soft, muted polishes like this, or are you like me and usually gravitate toward bold hues? Continue reading

Nail Art Tutorial: Ladybug Nails

Ladybug Nails Nail Art TutorialThis is what I wore over the weekend.

These Ladybug Nails were so easy to do, and you just need 3 colours of polish. Chances are that you already have these in your stash.

If you’re looking for simple nail art, this is definitely it. There aren’t many steps, and you don’t have to be good at drawing. It’s just dots, stripes, and painting the tip of your nails.

Some designs are more complicated and can be a challenge replicating it using your non-dominant hand. The ladybug nail art is easy-peasy to do on both hands. You just need the right tools.

I got this idea from a cutepolish YouTube video, which I’ll link to at the bottom of my post.

OPI Mermaid’s Tears Swatches & Review

OPI Mermaid's Tears Swatches & ReviewNail polish is colour therapy in a bottle.

Whenever I need my spirits lifted, I reach for neon nail lacquer, but sometimes a more subdued shade like this does the trick.

OPI Mermaid’s Tears is a gorgeous aqua, seafoam-green creme polish that’s on a similar wavelength as China Glaze For Audrey, but not a dupe.

This came out with the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Collection, and it was one of the colours that had lots of people buzzing.

At first I wasn’t going to get this, but the more I thought about it (and saw it on others), I couldn’t resist! 😛

Mermaid’s Tears will have you crying for joy – this is bright and cheerful without being loud. The colour gets attention like a pretty lady, but without the catcalls from the construction workers. Continue reading

Nail Art: Magician Nails

Magician Nails Swatches & PicturesThis is a manicure I did about 3 weeks ago but never posted it because I wasn’t pleased with how it turned out.

See all the bubbling on my index and ring fingers? I don’t like bubbling…except in cauldrons. Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble!

I’m posting these Magician Nails now because sometimes you need to show the good, the bad, and the ugly. And besides, when I look at it now, the bubbling kind of looks like glitter and ‘goes’ with the rest. Right? 😛 Maybe I’m reaching a bit here…

For this look, I used silver star sequins, China Glaze Liquid Leather (black) and Nicole by OPI Nicole’s Nickel (silver glitter).

What do you think about alternating colours on your nails? Yay or nay?

OPI It’s My Year Swatches & Review

OPI It's My Year Swatches & ReviewSometimes I’m quite simple – sparkly things catch my attention.

If I were a moth, I’m sure I wouldn’t survive for longer than a few minutes because I’d fly to my death on the 60-watt bulb. Lighhhht! Prettttty!

When I caught sight of OPI It’s My Year, I knew that it had to be mine. And when I wore this plum polish packed with golden shimmer, it didn’t disappoint!

This polish looks very different depending on the lighting, so you’ll never get bored. Continue reading

China Glaze Skyscraper Swatches & Review

China Glaze Skyscraper Swatches & ReviewEven though I’m a sucker for green polish, I do have a soft spot for blue lacquer, especially when it reminds me of a starry night sky.

Fall collections absolutely wreck havoc on my wallet. Why do they always have to be so darn amazing?

I bought almost every colour in the China Glaze Metro Collection. Do I feel guilty? Not yet. Ask me in a little bit. (No, please don’t ask me.)

China Glaze Skyscraper was the first one I chose to wear because it’s been a while since I wore a sparkly blue polish.

Even though I really love the way it catches the light, there was something about it that makes me hesitate to reach for it again.
