Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Shower Gel Review & Pictures

Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Shower Gel Review & PicturesSome people are obsessed with meat (like Michael Symon, the Iron Chef with a “Got Pork?” tattoo). Other people are obsessed with murder-mystery fiction. And then there are some people like me who love pumpkins.

They come in all different sizes. Some are squat and rotund. Some are tiny and adorable. They all get my seal of approval.

I just love how you can bring them to life for Hallowe’en by carving spooky faces and designs. I enjoy toasting their seeds with salt for a healthy snack and eating multiple slices of pumpkin pie! And when I was little, my dad used to call me Pumpkin.

All signs point to awesome.

So when I heard about the Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Shower Gel, obviously I couldn’t contain my excitement. (I’m almost sure that I squealed aloud.)

I got the travel-sized bottle and wanted to rush to take a shower even though it was only the early afternoon!

So is this fall in a shower gel? Or did it leave something to be desired? There’s only one way to find out!

Bath & Body Work Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Shower Gel Review

Fragrance

The fragrance is pleasant and spicy, but now here’s where the Debbie Downer comes: I was left asking, “Where’s the pumpkin?” That’s definitely a no-no when the main ingredient seems to be missing. It’s like Columbo without Peter Falk. No go!

What I detect is more reminiscent of apples and cinnamon (or nutmeg). Yes, it still smells great, but the whole reason I bought this was for the pumpkin! Big disappointment.

After getting out of the shower, a mild scent is left behind. It’s a floral that I don’t like much. It’s not a nose assault, so it’s tolerable. Just doesn’t do anything for me. Too bad that the cinnamon didn’t stick around. That would’ve been good.

Efficacy

The orange gel lathered up very well when I used it with my mesh sponge. And it left me feeling very clean without drying my skin. It didn’t seem to moisturize, though. But on the positive side, it also didn’t leave behind a nasty layer of film that some hydrating shower gels do.

Packaging

I really like the packaging. The colour of the gel and the label on the front really make me think of pumpkins and of the fall.

The bottle has a simple, curvy silhouette that’s easy to hold even when your hands are wet. I like how there are ridges on the sides to give you a better grip. And the flip-open cap is pretty standard – works well.

    Pros

  • Smells yummy like apple & cinnamon/nutmeg
  • Lathers & cleans well
  • Doesn’t leave behind a film
  • Pretty packaging
    Cons

  • Doesn’t smell like pumpkin
  • Seasonal product (not available all the time)

Final Verdict: 6.5/10

While the product cleans and lathers well and I like the packaging, I had to dock major points from the Final Verdict score because people will want to buy this based on the fragrance name. Unfortunately, the pumpkin is M.I.A. Perhaps if Bath & Body Works brings it back next year, they’ll reformulate it.

Will you be carving a pumpkin this year? Do you have any pumpkin beauty products? Have you tried any pumpkin gels or lotions that actually smell like pumpkin?

I think these year I will get a couple of pumpkins for my porch.

I got this set at B&BW. And I got the scrub! Did you try that? I’m glad to see B&BW introduce this new body product.

It is true that the line doesn’t smell like pumpkin. I do like it. However, it is misleading to have the word pumpkin in the name just for the sake of pumpkin being so popular this year.

      Hey Kimberly!

I love seeing pumpkins outside people’s homes – really sets the tone for fall.

No, I haven’t tried the scrub. I only got the shower gel and the body mist. Does the scrub work well at exfoliating?

I am TRULTY surprised by this review and 1st comment. Why? Because Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin is one of my all-time favorite scents from B&BW! Now I’ll admit that I only have the lotion and body spray and have never bought the shower gel. is it a new product to the scent? I’ve been buying the lotion and spray every other year for the last 10 years and I have ALWAYS thought it had a essence of pumpkin. I have some left from last year and didn’t plan on buying it this year. Could they have changed the formula??

      Hey Claudia!

Yes, this is supposed to be a new formula – altered scent and not just new packaging. They have the “Classics” version available online and during the Hello Yellow sales, but I’ve never smelled it, so I can’t make any comparisons.

This one definitely smells mostly like cinnamon, apples, and some kind of generic floral. The pumpkin is missing! I’m a pumpkin fiend, so it was a huge let-down. I was hoping for this to win me over. It’s nice, but misleading. Maybe I’ll have to try the original Classics B&BW version of it.

I was excited to see these after I had already gotten the matching candles which are divine! But sadly they do smell nothing of pumpkin! I was so sad! I bought the hand gel, soap. shower gel, lotion and body scrub only to be incredibly disappointed with the lack of pumpkin aroma! 🙁 Why is it nothing like the candle??? The candle rocks!

      Hey Becky!

Okay, so looks like I wasn’t the only one who thinks the pumpkin’s missing. (I’m not crazy after all! :P) I’m sorry that you bought all the bodycare products only to find out that there wasn’t any pumpkin smell. I only got the travel-sized shower gel and the body mist, so I didn’t invest too much.

I, too, was hoping that it would smell like the Slatkin & Co. Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle. I love that scent! Maybe they’ll tweak it and they’ll come out with it next year. But…I wanted it this year! *Whines like a spoiled brat* 😛

It really sucks when you buy a product for one specific reason and it turns out to be altogether awesome..except for the one specific reason you got it. 🙁

I’m not really a big fan of pumpkins but I’m interested enough to take a sniff the next time I find myself at B&BW.

      Hey Carmela!

Yeah, I wouldn’t be as upset about it if they just labelled it as an cinnamon-apple-floral scent. It’s nice, but not what I expected. And I really hope that more people express their opinion on this fragrance line so that B&BW will go back and reformulate it to something that actually includes pumpkin! They did a great job on the packaging, but now they need to focus on the actual product.

Their Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin is lovely – now there’s something you can smell the pumpkin in! It’s worth a snifferoo.

      Hey MissMidnightBlue!

Yes, it does smell good, but I’m not a huge fan of the floral that’s left behind. (That’s just my personal preference, though.) I really wanted more pumpkin…*whine whine whine* Is that too much to ask? 😛

      Hey Emily!

Yes, fall is the best for pumpkins, beauty, and fashion! 🙂 Today I just had what I think was the Spiced Pumpkin Latte from Starbucks. Yum…like pumpkin pie in coffee!

I’m more of a fan of Pumpkin Patch but that’s exclusively in the home fragrance line. With that said, Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin is a close second for me and one of my fave shower gels.

I’m lucky in the fact that I live where a lot of test stores are (as the home office is here) so I can pick up some items early depending on what they are. I’ve already got a few of the Winter/Holiday candles.

      Hey Rachel!

I want to try the Pumpkin Patch candle this fall. Only smelled it in stores.

Oh, yes, you’re so lucky to be near the test stores! If I lived near one, it would be very verrrry dangerous. 😉

How are you liking the new winter/holiday candles? Any standouts and/or duds in your opinion?

I haven’t purchased any yet or smelled them as they burned but I think my favorite is “Tis the Season” at the moment. I’m not a fan of Deck the Halls at all. The yearly seasonals such as Winter and Twisted Peppermint are some of my Holy Grails of Slatkin & Co.
