First thing’s first. I want to say that my thoughts and prayers go out especially to those on the east coat who are experiencing the worst of Sandy, the hurricane-turned-post-tropical-cyclone. Please be safe!
Here in Canada, we experienced strong winds and some rain. One woman was killed by a falling Staples sign, and I saw news footage of a large tree collapsing onto a house in the Beaches! Thousands of people in the Greater Toronto Area have experienced power outages. Sandy isn’t playing around!
In the wake of crazy environmental conditions terrorizing so many and worrying about my neighbours south of the border, I feel like this product review is unimportant. But, unless I lose electricity, the Swatch And Learn show will go on…
Edit: I ended up losing power last night, and it was literally a few seconds after I scheduled this post for today! The power came back on this morning, and the wind has died down here. We didn’t experience the degree of the storm like the Americans. My heart goes out to all of you who are feeling the effects of it!
Today I have a review on the Bath & Body Works Fresh Picked Blackberries Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap.

Bath & Body Works Fresh Picked Blackberries Hand Soap Review
Fragrance
The strange thing is that I only notice the fragrance of blackberries when I taste them. Otherwise, I can’t really recognize a scent, so I was curious to try Bath & Body Works Fresh Picked Blackberries since, obviously, I don’t taste hand soap!
It definitely has a berry scent, but there’s something like a sweet floral mixed in to soften the fragrance and make it not as tart as a blackberry.
The scent isn’t my favourite, but it’s not something that gives me a headache or makes me want to avoid using the hand soap.
You’ll smell the fragrance the most when you’re washing your hands, but even after rinsing and drying your hands, you can smell it lingering on your skin. That being said, it’s not so strong that it’ll interfere with an eau de parfum you may be wearing. It could, however, alter the scent of a light body mist.
Efficacy
The Fresh Picked Blackberries Hand Soap from Bath & Body Works cleans very well. Even after I was pigging out on some crunchy Cheetos and my fingers were greasy, this soap cut the grease very well.
Packaging
I like the simple packaging because the bottle is clear and you can easily see how much product is left. Also, the pump is large and easy to use. Although a single pump dispenses just the right amount of the soap, I like to use two. (Maybe I find foaming soaps to be too much fun.) 😉
Seasonal
Fresh Picked Blackberries is a scent that’s been out for a few months, and, if you’re familiar with Bath & Body Works, you know that they change their seasonal scents very often. Even though we’re still in the fall, enter any of their stores and you’ll see their Holiday Traditions scents out already (including my favourite – Vanilla Bean Noel)!
This scent is on its way out, I believe because the foaming hand soap has been removed from the website and the Deep Cleansing version is heavily discounted. They must be making more room for winter/Christmas scents.
Sooo…if you like this hand soap, I suggest that you grab it if you can still find it in your local store. Once it’s gone, I’m not sure if they’re going to bring it back next year. They might!
Animal-Friendliness
According to the label on the hand soap, this product wasn’t tested on animals. So if you’re looking for cruelty-free beauty products, you’ll be happy to know that it fits the bill.

Final Verdict: 5/10
I’m not crazy about this fragrance, and I really don’t like it enough to rush out and buy back-ups of it. It’s not a nasty fragrance, but it just doesn’t do anything for me.
Were you affected by Sandy? Have you tried Fresh Picked Blackberries? What hand soap is your favourite?
All of these bath and body works posts make me want to go out RIGHT NOW and buy their stuff.
blessing and a curse…. and thanks for the vanilla bean noel tip – my stockpile I acquired last year is running low
Hey Kels!
Hehe, I stockpiled Vanilla Bean Noel, too, but I still haven’t finished it. 🙂 Got tons of the shower gel (it’s my favourite product in the Vanilla Bean Noel line).
AHHH i went there yesterday and spent $50. 2 for $20 giant candles!
Which scents did you get? I’m still looking for the large 3-wick one in Pumpkin Cupcake. I only saw the mini the last time I went to the store.
i was boring… haha. the whatever it is cinnamon cider delicious toddy smell… it’s ____ _____ ____ toddy or something… and the frosted cupcake because my little one that i bought because of your recommendation is all burned out. i won’t let myself get the mini ones because the smell gets lost in my kitchen/dining/living room combo
YAY for getting a large version of Frosted Cupcake! 😀 I’m really biased, but it’s pretty awesome…hehe!
I heard that the Spiced Apple Toddy or whatever it is smells similar to Leaves or a better version of it.
I agree with you – the minis are only good for verrrry small spaces. There’s not too much scent throw. It’s better to get the small candles at least, but the 3-wick large ones are the best.
I just got power back a few hours ago.. Yikes. I got out of school for two days, so that was nice. Now I have to go back to the real world again.

Hey Brianna!
So happy to hear that you got electricity back. I can’t imagine how tough it is for people in the States who are still without power.
