Nicole by OPI Kardashing through the Snow Swatches & Review (Layered Over Nicole by OPI Deck the Dolls)

Nicole-by-OPI-Kardashing-through-the-Snow-Swatches-Review Nicole by OPI Kardashing through the Snow is the 2nd of 3 Kardashian Kolor Holiday polishes I have to share with you.

When I first laid eyes on it, I knew that it would be fun to use for layering. (However, in case you actually want to wear it solo, I’ve included some photos of it at 1, 2, and 3 coats to give you a better idea.)

This is a fun glitter polish that puts some pizzazz in any manicure. So it’s perfect if you have an old manicure that you want to refresh after a few days.

Nicole by OPI Deck the Dolls Swatches & Review

Nicole-by-OPI-Deck-the-Dolls-Swatches-ReviewNicole by OPI Deck the Dolls hails from the Kardashian Kolor Holiday Collection, and it’s one of those lit-from-within teal nail polishes.

I think that everyone who’s into lacquer ought to own a shade like this because it’s so universally flattering, and it has an intensity that’s dramatic without being gaudy.

It’s bold without being bright or vampy. It walks the tightrope like a pro and delivers saturated colour without breaking a sweat.

Allow me to share more of my thoughts on this lacquer with you and show you more photos!

Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez Collection Press Release, Actual Bottle Photos & Quick Swatches

Nicole-by-OPI-Selena-Gomez-Collection-Press-Release-Actual-Bottle-Pictures-Quick-SwatchesI’m really excited to be able to bring you an early look at the upcoming Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez Collection!

It’s due out in stores January 2013, but, after I met and had dinner with Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, the Executive VP and Artistic Director of OPI and Nicole by OPI, the awesome PR ladies included the entire collection in my ‘swag bag’!

Haha, it’s good that Selena Gomez got her own line of polishes. After all, Justin Bieber has his own Nicole by OPI nail polishes!

So, instead of showing you the usual promo pictures, I actually can show you photos I took of the actual bottles. (I’ll also include the official press release.)

You may or may not know, but I don’t actually ‘swatch’ polishes. I wear the colours as full manicures for at least a day and often longer. I only use the term ‘swatch’ because it’s the familiar lingo.

And I prefer to showcase each shade in its own blog post so that I can go into a lot of detail. If you’re looking for a single blog post with all the shades at a glance, other bloggers do an incredible job of that! It’s just not my style.

However, because PR was thoughtful enough to include some nail ‘wheels’ that were painted with the polish already, I took photos of them (with my camera’s flash) to give you a better idea of what it looks like on a nail. (Stay tuned for my future review posts where I’ll be wearing each colour and showing you photos of my manicures in various lighting.) 🙂

Blog News: I Had Dinner with Suzi Weiss-Fischmann of OPI (Plus Surprise Giveaway!)

Suzi-Weiss-Fischmann-OPI-Nicole-by-OPI-Mary-Swatch-And-Learn Use for BlogThis is definitely the biggest blog news I’ve ever posted on here, hands down (paws down, claws down, feathers down, flippers down, man down, and Richard-Adams-Watership-Down…You get the idea)!

I’ll always remember Sunday October 14th, 2012 as the day when I met Suzi Weiss-Fischmann (the Executive Vice President and Artistic Director) of OPI and Nicole by OPI and had dinner with her at the Ciao Wine Bar in Yorkville! (Harris Shepard of the PR firm by the same name also accompanied her.)

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you already heard me gushing about it (perhaps to the point of making your eyes roll), but things like this don’t happen everyday, so I’ll keep squealing and squealing until I’m turned into delicious bacon. (Poor piggy…)

It literally was one of my dreams come true, and it was a dream that I never thought would ever happen.

I have to thank Langton Communications for inviting me to the exclusive event. Suzi flew in especially for this occasion, which was a huge honour in and of itself.

I have great memories that I’ll hold onto until the day I die. (Although I almost died when she walked into the room. Before she even introduced herself, I had a total fan-girl moment and said, “Hiiiiii, Suzzzzziiiii!” louder than I expected because I was so excited.)

My account in this blog post is based purely on my memory. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to bring a notebook and pen like many of the smart bloggers who attended.

P.S. Keep reading and find out how you can win an autographed bottle of OPI Movin’ Out by Suzi!

Edit (November 1, 2012): I’ve contacted the lucky winner – Congratulations, Melissa V! She replied to my e-mail to claim her prize, so this giveaway is officially closed. Thank you all for participating! Also, please note that I’ll be replying to all the comments left, but it’ll take me some time. 🙂

Edit (March 24, 2013): I recently got the opportunity to attend another exclusive event and meet Suzi Weiss-Fischmann a 2nd time! Click here to read my detailed blog post on it!

Nail Art Tutorial: Pirate Nails

Pirate-Nails-Nail-Art-TutorialArr, swashbucklers and ye landlubbers alike may get a kick out of these Pirate Nails! (No bottle o’ rum is necessary, which makes them suitable for all ages.) 😉

Last year I created many different Hallowe’en nail-art tutorials (soon I’ll do a ’round-up’ type of post in case you find it helpful to see all the ideas in one place).

This year, my schedule has been so packed, I wasn’t able to do Hallowe’en nail art, which seriously bums me out!

But I wasn’t going to let October 31st roll by without at least one new festive design!

Hehe, it’s been a little while since I had ‘eyeballs’ on my nails…and y’know what? I sorely missed them. (I like looking at nails and having them look back. We can…see eye to eye! *Groans*)

Hope that you’ll try out this design. I purposely tried to do a design that didn’t use too many colours so that it’s a look that more people will be able to attempt, regardless if you have a huge lacquer collection or not.

Smorgasbord Sundays: Music I’ve Been Looping Over & Over

MusicAs I’m sure I’ve told you on multiple occasions, music is really important to me. There’s not a single day that goes by that I don’t listen to music.

While there are long-time favourites, I’m always on the lookout for new tunes to spin. Do you have any suggestions for me? I listen to every single genre out there. (Good music is good music, so I could never just stick to liking one genre.)

When I was in high school, I was moved the most by super-happy songs…haha, like annoying bubblegum and gumdrops…so sticky sweet and fake that they gave your ears cavities. That kind.

However, when I got older, I found that I was moved the most by melancholic songs that make me want to listen to them on a rainy evening with a glass of wine. There’s something about what I call ‘poetic wounds’ that is endearing on a deeper level.

In today’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, I’ll share with you some YouTube clips for a few songs that I’ve been obsessed with lately.

Let me know what songs you’ve been digging recently!

Blog News: My Neon Skull Nails Featured on beautylish

I have some cool news to share: My wonderful reader, Frances (aka Frosso) from Lacquer Me Silly, told me yesterday that we were featured on beautylish!

They chose to highlight her whimsical Tim Burton MoMa-inspired manicure and my neon skull nails.

(Click here if you want to see my traditional black-and-white-skull nail-art tutorial for it. You can check out the original beautylish article here or by clicking on the below screenshot.)

beautylish SwatchAndLearn Neon Skull Nails Nail Art

There are also lots of interesting designs from other talented ladies. It’s very inspiring to see their self-expression! 🙂 I highly recommend you check it out and join beautylish if you haven’t already – it’s free and fun.

Whenever I receive amazing news like this, it always reminds me to thank you for being so supportive. I really value my blog readers, whether you’ve been with me since the very beginning or have just found Swatch And Learn today.

I’m proud to be part of the nail-polish community – we’re a strong and creative group! I feel like we’ve learned so much from each other, and it makes me smile just thinking about how a similar interest (haha, or obsession!) like nail polish can bring people all over the world together.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog despite your busy schedule! I know that we’re all really busy, life gets stressful, and sometimes we feel like we can’t even breathe. So the fact that you’ve spent any time on here is a big deal to me – it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

On another note…

What are you up to this weekend? I’m going to be up to something really cool! Although I won’t spoil it by saying what it is yet, I can tell you that it made me scream for joy on the inside and squeal like a happy Wilbur the pig on the outside! *Pinches self to make sure it’s not a dream* But, don’t worry, I won’t be a tease for long. 😉 I’ll definitely be blogging about it (probably next week). Keep your eyes peeled like a banana…(I also hope to start the Milani giveaway soon. It’ll be open to everyone!)
