** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

My obsession with red nail polish started with…a pair of shoes. Yes, you heard right. I own these red pumps with just the perfect shade – it’s a look-at-me red that’s dark, glossy and ever-so slightly vampy.

Whenever I see an awesome color, I always imagine what it would look like on my nails. Am I the only one? Anyway, since then I’ve been on the search for that color in nail polish. Nubar Risque Reds Collection Enchanting Red is the closest I’ve gotten. It’s so gorgeous! Continue reading

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Irresistibly Ivy Review & Swatches

I’ve been absolutely obsessed with eyeshadow palettes lately. Something about holding so many colors in my hand at once just makes me giddy. Just think about the possible color combinations!

So when I saw the Maybelline EyeStudio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow Irresistibly Ivy palette, of course I found myself with it in the check-out line (not sure how I got there). It’s glittery, it has a beautiful blue-green color, and it was on sale. The odds were stacked against me. Continue reading

Urban Decay The Black Palette Review & Swatches

Fan of black? Oh, yes, I am! I love makeup color of all sorts, but I have a soft spot for darker tones. They’re so mysteriously pretty, and in the right places, they really define your features!

So when I saw Urban Decay The Black Palette, I made a beeline straight to it. And before I even finished reading the back (it says, “Eyeshadow dipped in black. Dangerous sparkly-shift jewel tones plus a sooty matte black shadow…”), I already was clutching onto a set and holding to it for dear life.

How does the UD Black Palette fare against my high expectations? Continue reading

For those who may not know, IMATS is one big gathering of professionals, brands and beauty addicts – all in the name of makeup! Could you imagine that?!

Six lucky cities around the world get the chance to host the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show every year. And, of course, there wasn’t a chance in the makeup world that Mary and I would miss it. (I think we started planning in July.)

IMATS is the first trade show specifically designed for make-up artists, but you don’t have to be a professional to attend. You just need to love makeup! Continue reading

e.l.f. Essentials Total Face Brush Review (e.l.f. Professional Total Face Brush)

Ask me before I tried makeup brushes if I needed them, and I right out in your face would say, “Hellz nah.” I’m glad no one asked me that then because I’d be eating my words – shamefully. Makeup brushes really do help applying products easier with better results, I’ve discovered. Duh me!

Which is why I’m on this mission to find quality face and eye brushes that are affordable…for myself and, of course, for this blog. 🙂 And when it comes to affordable makeup products, the first name that comes into mind is e.l.f. cosmetics.

I’ve reviewed a few other brushes by this brand and came to the conclusion that the brushes are very hit and miss. My first impression of the e.l.f. Essentials Total Face Brush wasn’t a good one. Find out if I changed my mind… Continue reading

e.l.f. Studio Kabuki Face Brush Review & Pictures

** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

Whenever I hit a makeup store, one of the first things I do is feel the display brushes (not dirty-looking ones, of course). I just love comparing the soft bristles of each brand! Sounds weird, huh? What’s even weirder is that I’m currently feeling the soft bristles of the e.l.f. Studio Kabuki Face Brush I’m about to review. (TMI?)

I just can’t get over how soft this little brush is – not only on my hand but on my skin, too. Because of it, I actually enjoy adding that extra step of applying a setting powder over my face makeup. Other than softness, find out what else you’ll appreciate from this elf kabuki brush. Continue reading
