e.l.f. Mineral Blush Joy Review & Swatches

A touch of blush can instantly liven up your face. It can make you look healthier and more awake. Unfortunately, it’s the beauty product that I was never too interested in…until recently. I’ve purchased quite a few blushes by different brands lately, and e.l.f. Mineral Blush Joy has, by far, the smallest price tag.

Yeah, I caught it when elf had the 50% off mineral sale. I always think, “It’s so affordable; why not?” Well, there are a few why-nots that I’ll tell you about when it comes to elf Mineral Blush Joy. There are also a couple of things that I do like about it, too!

elf Joy Mineral Blush Review

Joy. It’s appropriately named, I think. elf Joy Mineral Blush is described as “mauve lilac” on the site, but I don’t see mauve nor do I see lilac. It’s more of a blushing pink color. I like this shade because it looks quite like a natural flush of color on the face – a little like after running a couple of laps, but only on the cheeks. It’s pretty!

My first complaint with e.l.f. Joy Mineral Blush is that it’s not pigmented at all. If you want to ramp up the color more, you really have to work it and apply it a few times. It’s good if you like your blush to be really sheer or if you’re just trying blush and are slightly apprehensive about wearing it.

The consistency of elf Mineral Blush Joy is very fine, so fine that it feels sort of creamy on my finger. A good thing. Also, once you get the amount of color you want on your cheeks, the blush does blend easily, so you’re not stuck with those blush circles on a clown’s face. I’ve applied the elf Joy using a synthetic blush brush and a duo fiber stippling brush, and both did a good job without any issues.

My second complaint? I may have gotten a product with defective packaging, because it’s really hard to dispense the elf Joy Blush through the sifter holes! Shaking it gently doesn’t get any of the product out. So I tried shaking it harder a few times. But as you can see from the pictures, the powder just sort of splatters everywhere… and still, not enough product came out. Ugh! I’ll have to see if it’s the same with the e.l.f. Mineral Blush Coral that I also got.

OK, my third complaint: it has absolutely no staying powder. The color fades throughout the day, and by 1/2 through it, it’s completely gone. I always feel like I’ve wasted my time applying e.l.f Joy Blush in the morning. It fares better with a face primer, but still not great.

    Pros

  • Silky consistency
  • Affordable
  • Blends easily
    Cons

  • Not pigmented at all
  • Color fades & doesn’t stay
  • Hard to dispense the powder

Final Verdict: 6/10

I like the color of elf Mineral Joy Blush. But I would pass it by if I ever run out. Even though I like sheer blushes, the color payoff of this blush is way too sucky for me.

Have you tried the elf blush line? Does yours have an issue with dispensing the product like mine did? Share your experience!
