INGLOT 988 Swatches & Review

INGLOT 988 Swatches Review

INGLOT 988 is a Comfort Nail Polish to me that’s akin to a piping hot bowl of chilli on a day when the weather outside is frightful.

It wasn’t always this way, but green speaks to my soul. Although I can appreciate a diverse spectrum of shades, green is the colour that I find to be the most soothing and ‘natural.’ It’s the colour that I feel represents me the best, and it’s rare that a green doesn’t make my heart sing like a Disney princess whose bed is made by sweet little birds. (Pfft! Who needs a Prince Charming?) 😉

How has your New Year been so far? Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? Are you sticking to them?

I rarely make New Year’s resolutions anymore. Instead, I set goals for myself frequently throughout the year, and that works best for me because I like having numerous achievements to strive for on a regular basis instead of once a year.

Now it’s time for a tangent, cosine, or sine. 😉

Something that’s unrelated, but that I wanted to mention is that the other day, I was doing random searches on YouTube. Ever do that? You end up researching one thing, but then you fall down the rabbit hole and wind up somewhere completely unexpected.

I started off listening to old songs that brought back happy memories – 2Pac Thugz Mansion (the acoustic version), Fight Test by The Flaming Lips, Fabolous’ You Be Killin’ Em, and T.I.’s Whatever You Like.

Then, after a long string of searches, it was the Six Degrees of YouTube Separation. I ended up listening to a man speaking about his experience in a maximum-security prison!

While listening to this man, I was inspired because he totally turned his life and attitude around. After spending years in prison and being stripped of his freedom, he was finally released, and he chose to lead a life that wasn’t down a criminal path.

Despite the temptations and his friends who were released and repeated the same old mistakes, this guy had the courage to resist. He created his own happy story, and he took full responsibility for all the crimes he committed in the past. He even tried to help other convicts change their ways, and he put himself in danger by doing so.

Stories like his make me think that there really are angels on earth.

People like him inspire me the most. It’s not those who have it all who impress me. The people who have lost it all and have learned what the real riches are set the biggest example for me. It’s people like him whose stories I’d want to help write into a book. The world needs to hear them and come back down to earth.

INGLOT 988 Review

Colour

It might sound peculiar, but INGLOT 988 reminds me of recycling. Haha, it’s the exact shade of green that I think of when I pull up a mental image of the recycling symbol with the arrows! Well, maybe it’s just a tad lighter.

This green looks blue-based to me, and the richness of it provides the contrast against my skin tone that you know I love. It’s not too dramatic, but it stands out. I love it!

Finish

INGLOT 988 is a creme-jelly hybrid because it’s translucent like a gummy bear, but it has a bit more coverage. You’ll love it because it’s super shiny, even without a glossy top coat!

Application & Formula

This INGLOT nail polish had a runny consistency, so be careful not to load up your brush too much, or you could flood your cuticles by accident. If you’re mindful of this, you’ll be fine.

The formula is incredibly smooth, and it’s easy to control the application with the brush. It almost paints itself! (Imagine if Cinderella’s birds, squirrels, and little mice could paint our nails for us! Yes!)

To get decent coverage, I only needed two coats. However, I could see a little visible nail line still. It was okay with me because the finish is a creme-jelly. I expected that. However, if you want complete coverage, just use an extra coat, and you’ll be good.

Ingredients

Those who have sensitivities and are avoiding certain ingredients will be pleased to know that this INGLOT nail polish doesn’t contain any Toluene, Formaldehyde, DBP, or Camphor.

To see the complete list of ingredients, please scroll further up in this post because I included them in a photo of the box the nail polish came in.

Name

I dislike how INGLOT names their nail polishes with random numbers. Part of the fun of owning a nail polish is the creative name. Instead, it’s stripped like a prisoner and identified with just a number. Not fair, especially because this colour is a beauty!

Value

This polish is more expensive than a typical nail polish at $13 CAD, and if you’re not near the INGLOT store in downtown Toronto or you can’t shop online, it can be tricky to get your hands on.

Pros

  • A very ‘Mary green’ (Hehe!)
  • Creme-jelly hybrid
  • Super shiny, even without a glossy top coat
  • Smooth formula
  • No Toluene, Formaldehyde, DBP, or Camphor

Cons

  • At $13 CAD, it’s pricier than typical nail polishes
  • Can be tricky to get your hands on if you can’t shop online or get to the brick-and-mortar store in Toronto

Final Verdict: 9/10

INGLOT 988 is a gorgeous green nail polish that I loved wearing! It’s a shade that fits with my personality, so I find it very easy to sport. Additionally, the formula was easy to paint with, and I loved the super-shiny finish!

What’s your Comfort Nail Polish? Have you ever done some ‘research’ out of curiosity and then ended up somewhere completely different? What are some songs that bring you a lot of happy memories?

      Hey Melissa!

I need to review more of my INGLOT nail polishes. I don’t see too many reviews on them, and there are loads of pretty colours, including a wide variety of greens.

this color is gorgeous on you! sometimes i think your fingers just know when they’re wearing a green color and they ”smile” for the camera 😉 i can tell it’s your color, just by your photos. i really like your story- it’s always a good thing when you fall down the rabbit hole of youtube and come out with inspiration or something learned. it doesn’t always happen that way lol. trust. i know! (i only wish is could get those hours of my life back!) but it makes me feel better to know there can sometimes be a pot of gold at the end of that long, long spiral lol ;-D i’m glad that you found it and shared with us <3 love your review, as always!

      Hey Ashley!

Hehe, I think you’re right! When my nails really like a colour, they do indeed “smile.” 😉

Yeah, sometimes YouTube leads you to some unusual places. I’ve watched my fair share of ‘pimple-popping’ videos after going down a weird path on YouTube. Haha!
