Hard Candy Crush on Lava Swatches & Review

Hard Candy Crush on Lava Swatches & Review

Like a crackling fireplace that creates an inviting ambience,ย Hard Candy Crush on Lavaย adds warmth to your manicure with a burst of multichrome. It mainly shifts from an orange-leaning gold to maroon, but at times, I spied a little green along the edges at certain angles.

Hard Candy Crush on Lava strikes a chord that’s in harmony with the autumnal spirit that goes hand-in-hand with the leaves changing colours.

If you’re looking for a nail polish to ignite your inner nailphile and make you long for those cool, crisp fall days, Hard Candy Crush on Lava does just the trick to fill that desire and wrap it up in a cozy blanket.

P.S. If you’re also addicted to Candy Crush like me, when you first read the name Hard Candy Crush on Lava, you probably noticed ‘Candy Crush’ first. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hard Candy Crush on Lava Review

Colour

You’ll feel like the Girl on Fire when you paint your nails with Crush on Lava by Hard Candy because its fiery personality with maroon and orange-gold create manicures that are hot, hot, hot!

It has an autumnal vibe like the changing colours of the leaves, and as you move your fingers, the light reflects and reveals the strong duochrome. (Then, at certain angles, when you look at the edges, some green appears like a whisper, and you realize that the polish is a multichrome!)

This is one of those polishes that is so charismatic, it can distract you, so be forewarned not to operate heavy machinery while wearing it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Finish

This dense-glitter nail polish catches the light and twinkles like crazy! It’s lively like a roaring fire, and it has a seductive tone with an air of mystery.

The sparkly finish is smooth, even without a glossy top coat. It’s one of those polishes that looks exactly the same with or without a top coat. It’s mesmerizing like a rattlesnake doing the twist!

Application & Formula

Crush on Lava by Hard Candy is on the watery, thin side, but don’t let that put you off. The colour is worth the slightly extra effort!

Make sure that you don’t overload the brush, or you could accidentally flood your cuticles. (I found that it works well to apply a thin first coat.)

You’ll notice, especially if your nails are on the longer side, that the polish seems to be slightly more sheer on the tips of your nails. No problem. After painting all your nails, just dip your brush back into a little polish and revisit each nail, adding a little onto only the tips. Try to blend it in, so it looks fairly even. After waiting a few (maybe 5 minutes), apply your second coat as you normally would. (This will create a smooth appearance while helping you to avoid bald patches.)

Painting your nails with these steps in mind with this polish will give you complete opacity and will bring out the intensity of the colours.

Using this method, I only needed 2 coats to get full coverage. (Well, if you consider the step of painting just the tips, then altogether, I used 2.5 coats.)

Packaging

While I love the nail polish, I’m not crazy about the bottle because it’s tall and thin. Although it hasn’t happened (yet), I can see myself accidentally knocking it over one day. (Short and wide bottles are more stable.)

Also, the wand is long, so each time you dip your brush back into the bottle, there’s a risk that you could tip it over and have a messy spill on your hands.

When I paint with these tall, cylindrical Hard Candy nail polishes, I always take extra care, and I suggest that you do, too. Better to paint slow and steady like the tortoise than to spill the polish in a hurry like the hare!

Pros

  • Fiery multichromatic orange-gold & maroon with a touch of green
  • Sparkles & shifts like crazy
  • Full opacity in 2-2.5 coats
  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • Thin, watery formula can appear more sheer on your tips (unless you add a little extra polish)
  • Tall, cylindrical bottle & long wand makes it easy to accidentally knock the polish over
  • If you don’t have a Walmart near you, it can be tricky to get your hands on, since Hard Candy is a brand that’s exclusive to that store

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

Yes, I have a crush on Hard Candy Crush on Lava, and things are burning up! ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s the beginning of autumn, and I’m really feeling this cozy multichrome. I give it top marks – highly recommend it!

What’s your go-to fall nail polish? Have you tried any of the Hard Candy nail lacquers? Does the tall, narrow bottle also concern you that it may accidentally tip over?

      Hey Robbie!

It’s worth making the trek! Crush on Lava is stunning in the bottle, but on the nails, it’s mind-blowing, especially if you’re feeling the rich coziness of autumnal manicures like I am.

I’d love to see it on your toes, so tag me if you snap a photo. ๐Ÿ™‚ THF!

      Hey Liz!

From one blogger to another, thank you so much! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes, I wish that I invested in a macro lens for my camera because then I could really capture the depth and complexity in multichromatic nail polishes. Maybe one day! But, in the meantime, I’m glad that even with my out-of-the-box-standard-camera-lens, you’re able to see some of the detail in my photos. The polish is mesmerizing in real life, but I tried to do it some justice. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love this polish, but that bottle…. Ugh! I was so certain I was going to knock it over that I was really hesitant to even try to use it. I looked around for something to put it in, and ended up using a small measuring glass out of my kitchen (it’s about the size and shape of a small shot glass, so that could work too). Now I can get at that beautiful color without fear of a mess ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Hey Brynn!

Haha, yeah, I know what you mean! Knocking over a tall, thin bottle would be disastrous. I am always extra careful when I use Hard Candy polishes. If they redesigned it to be wider at the bottle and shorter, it would be more stable and less…scary!

Ahh, that was very clever of you to put it into another glass. Glad that you’re making it work and enjoying the beautiful polish! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, pretty! It looks like a dupe for MAC’s Bad Fairy from the Disney Villains and Rocky Horror (repromote) collections.

      Hey ChynnaBlue!

Ahhhhhhhh – MAC’s Bad Fairy is the polish that got away! When it first came out with the Venomous Villains Collection, I wanted it, but it sold out. Then, not too long ago, it was repromoted, but it sold out once again. I’m crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes that MAC releases it again because, even if you say that Crush on Lava is a dupe, I still really want the MAC version. Hehe, I guess it’s the nail-polish collector in me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Hey Lizzy!

Hehe, after wearing this polish and then removing it, immediately (we’re talking a few seconds), I thought, “But I want to wear it again!” Then I saw my other untried nail polishes looking up at me with watery eyes, so I couldn’t ignore them. Hehe! Oh, the life of a nail blogger, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Hey Cindi!

It’s so luxurious and cozy. As of right now, it’s by far my favourite nail polish from Hard Candy that I’ve ever worn!

      Hey Sasha!

One time, I was stuck on a very difficult level for maybe a week, so I understand the frustration. Then, out of the blue, there was a message saying that the “Tooth Fairy” decided to be nice and help me. It just went to the next level! Has that ever happened to you? Maybe it’ll happen on the level you’re on. Fingers crossed! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes for you that it’ll happen! (I’ve got the random “Tooth Fairy” maybe 5 times. Maybe they have programmed it so after you are stuck on a level for a period of time, the fairy works her magic. Hehe!)

      Hey Sandra!

The shift is insanely gorgeous in real life! It’s the kind that makes you look down and ‘steal’ glances at your own nails throughout the day. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hey Allie!

MAC Bad Fairy was the polish that got away! I was unable to snatch it the two times it was released. If it is re-promoted again, maybe the third time will be a charm. ๐Ÿ˜‰
