China Glaze Wood You Wanna? Swatches & Review

China Glaze Wood You Wanna Swatches & Review

Brown isn’t at the top of my nail-polish totem pole, but when it has shimmer and when autumn rolls around, I tend to test the waters more.

China Glaze Wood You Wanna? from The Great Outdoors Collection reminds me of a tree from the future or the kind that robots would plant in the year 3000.

It’s a bark-like brown, but because it has so much foil flecks, the overall appearance looks like a metallic taupe.

This is a brown that I was excited to wear and very much enjoyed! It has a cozy look with a lot of oomph – puts me in the mood for autumn. (Oh, who am I kidding? I’m always in the mood for fall, as it’s my favourite season!)

China Glaze Wood You Wanna? Review

Colour

Even if you’re like me and browns aren’t really your thing, Wood You Wanna? by China Glaze might pleasantly surprise you.

It’s not reminiscent of a certain emoji like a creme brown – it’s an elevated brown that, in some lighting, can look more cool-toned or warm-toned. I found it really interesting to see how it subtly changed throughout the day and night.

Finish

The foil-metallic finish elevates the polish to give it a futuristic, glam appearance. It catches the light a lot, and the finish is wonderfully smooth!

Application & Formula

Wood You Wanna? by China Glaze is very pigmented. Even with a single coat, it covered great, but I used my usual minimum of two coats. (You shouldn’t need more than that to get full coverage.)

This polish was easy to paint with – goes on smoothly and evenly. It was a joy to use!

Pros

  • Foil-metallic brown
  • Smooth formula
  • Very pigmented

Cons

  • Brown isn’t the most exciting colour (at least to me…but this one took me by surprise)

Final Verdict: 8/10

Of the few times that I wear brown nail polish, this is the kind that I prefer because the finish is beautiful, and the shade is so rich!

Do you wear browns more in the fall than other times in the year? Can you picture using this brown for gingerbread nail art?

This is a winner. I tend to avoid browns as I am not keen on the colour and it looks yucky on me. This is beautiful though and one of the few typical autumn shades I will buy. Your lovely photos have done the last bit of convincing!

      Hey Firegirl!

I know what you mean about browns. Some make your fingers look ‘off,’ yet others make you think of the wonderful cozy feeling you get in autumn when you’re bundled up and strolling outside with a crunch-crunch-crunch of the leaves beneath your shoes.

Thank you so much for the kind words about my photos! 🙂 I’m so happy that you enjoy them. I have fun wearing my manicures and sharing them with readers. I feel like it’s our special club where we can share the same polish passion.

I didn’t think much of this color when the collection was first announced, but having seen your swatches of it-I might have to reconsider getting this one. It’s rich without being dark and has shimmer without looking like a 1980’s throwback frosted polish. Looks great on you Mary. Thanks for sharing it with us! 🙂

      Hey Melissa!

I’m usually like that, too. Whenever I first hear about a new brown being released, it rarely makes me raise my rabbit ears. But this one – wow, it has depth and reminds me of autumn so much! I fell for it like the leaves from the trees. (Haha, sorry – I couldn’t resist saying that!) 😉

Haha, yes, frost finishes totally have that dated 80s look. (I love the 1980s, but I can’t get along with frosts. The streakiness drives me bonkers!)
