First of all, HAPPY LABOUR DAY! 🙂
The long weekend has been quite a treat, and although I wish I could say that I’m taking a break today, I’m…labouring. Hehe! Lots of oh-so-exciting-not-really-exciting house chores to do, and I also played around with some polishes.
Essie’s PR team occasionally sends me some step-by-step nail-art tutorials featuring their nail polishes, and this is one of the most recent featuring Ink Spill Nail Art designed by Rita Remark. (She’s the lead nail artist for Essie Canada, and a while ago, I got to meet Rita Remark!)
The Ink Spill Nail Art features four Essie nail polishes:
- BlancÂ
- Bell Bottom BluesÂ
- After School Boy Blazer
- Midnight Cami
This post contains the official photos and instructions straight from PR. If you try this or a variation of it, show me. I’d love to see what you come up with!
Below are step-by-step images coinciding with the Essie nail-art tutorial:
What have you been up to this Labour Day? Will you be trying out this quick nail design? What kinds of nail-art tutorials do you look up most often?
What a great design and it looks so easy! Thanks for sharing it with us. I can’t wait to try this design.
Hey Melissa!
Yes – I love nail designs that are accessible to everyone, no matter what skill level. Plus there’s a lot of room for variations, so you can customize it and make it as simple or as complicated as you’d like. I may try this! 🙂
That is such a cool design!

Hey Elizabeth Markham!
Rita Remark is very talented, and when I got to meet her backstage at a fashion show, she was totally down-to-earth and sweet! Really love how she’s so successful, but is still humble. People like her inspire me so much!
This is quite lovely! I love that nail art is becoming more and more accessible and mainstream. People keep saying that it’s a trend and it’ll die eventually, but I don’t think so. I think it’ll become a staple in the general fashion lexicon and that the idea of nail art will stick around for many years to come.
Hey Fedoraharp!
As long as creativity keeps chugging along the endless train tracks, I also believe that nail art will never die. It will change, as with any trend, but I can’t see people ‘getting over’ it. They’ll just find new designs and textures to express themselves with their nails.
Nail art is not just for fun anymore. It’s evolved into an art form that is both complex and beautiful. The clever tattoo designs can be seen on fingertips, nails, knuckles, toes, handbags, shoes, skirts, jackets, shirts, walls— pretty much everywhere! The popularity of nail art has spread immensely because of the outrageous combinations of colors and designs.
