China Glaze Point Me to the Party Swatches & Review! (Layered Over KBShimmer Sarong Place, Sarong Time)

China Glaze Point Me to the Party Swatches & ReviewLike an explosion of neon fireworks, China Glaze Point Me to the Party from the Electric Nights Collection is a must-have nail polish, as far as I’m concerned!

For a big mainstream company, I was pleasantly surprised to see it channeling a look that is more reminiscent of indie nail polishes. (Since I don’t have too many indies in my collection, this got me very excited!)

Neons are some of my favourite lacquers to wear any season because they are an instant pick-me-up. Now, with China Glaze Point Me to the Party, you could layer a neon base with a multicoloured neon glitter topper!

For this manicure, I layered China Glaze Point Me to the Party over my existing manicure, which was KBShimmer Sarong Place, Sarong Time (from the Summer 2015 Collection), which I reviewed in-depth yesterday.

China Glaze Point Me to the Party Review

Colour

If you enjoy wearing neon nail polish, but you are having trouble whittling it down to a single shade or you aren’t interested in doing a skittle manicure, Point Me to the Party by China Glaze is a polish that you’ll want to reach for immediately!

Housed in a clear base (suitable for layering over practically any colour) is glitter in a neon rainbow: green, orange, pink, and blue.

Together, they make for a fun sprinkling of cheer that lends a playful touch to any manicure. Plus depending on what you wear underneath, it can look very different. (For instance, try layering it over another neon, a white, or a dark shade.)

Finish

Point Me to the Party by China Glaze is full of different-sized glitter, so it should come as no surprise that there’s noticeable texture. Once you put a thick, glossy top coat over it, everything smoothes out beautifully.

The glitter is matte, but the clear polish it’s suspended in is glossy. For this manicure, I wore the glitter topped with a glossy top coat, and I loved it. However, I can see how if you mattified the whole thing, it would also be pretty fun to wear!

Application & Formula

The consistency of my bottle of Point Me to the Party by China Glaze wasn’t thick or like old glue. The clear base flowed easily onto my nails, and I began at first by applying this polish like a typical lacquer. Then, in any spots that may have looked a little less sparse than others, I used the dabbing motion to apply a little glitter to fill up the area. (I only did this to one or two nails from both hands in total, so it’s not something that you’ll have to spend a lot of time doing. Manipulating the glitter in this one is easy and fast.)

I noticed that the ratio of clear nail polish to glitter was high. Maybe this was to allow for a smoother application of glitter.

Since it has so much chunky glitter, it’s harder to remove than a smooth creme, but that’s to be expected. Plus if you only use a single layer, it’s way easier than if you load up several layers of glitter.

What It Looks Like Solo

When I wore this polish, I used a bright violet base, but I wanted to show you what it looks like by itself, so you can dream up your own fun layering combinations! 🙂

In the below swatches, the one on the left has one coat, and the nail on the right has two coats.

Pros

  • Fun neon rainbow glitter topper
  • Versatile & can be layered over different-coloured bases
  • Dense glitter that only needs a single coat to achieve a dramatic effect
  • Matte glitter looks nice on its own, but it pops with a glossy top coat
  • Glitter is suspended in a clear polish that flows onto the nail smoothly. Only a bit of fiddling around with the glitter placement is necessary.

Cons

  • More difficult to remove than a creme (but that’s generally the case with glitter nail polishes)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

Especially if you don’t own a lot of indie nail polishes, Point Me to the Party by China Glaze could very well be unique in your collection!

I know that many indie nail polishes do a lot of glitter combinations (and even with glitter), but it’s nice to see that China Glaze, a big company, is making this type of polish readily accessible to the mainstream polish lover. 🙂

I highly recommend you try this polish. When you do, you’ll want to try other fun layering combinations and experiment to your heart’s content!

What would you layer with China Glaze Point Me to the Party? What are some indie nail polishes you have and love? Did you pick up this and other shades from the China Glaze Electric Nights Collection?

What a fun color combo! I’m liking this glitter polish. It would also be great for a jelly when layered with a sheer white, almost like Funfetti frosting. LOL Thanks as always for sharing with us!

      Hey Jessica!

YAY – glad you also liked the combination! I feel like the glitter is so versatile. From pastels to even a white base, it looks great. But I love seeing it go full throttle over a neon!

I love how it looks over white. I have enough neons so I resisted the other polishes in this collection but I snapped this one up asap.

      Hey Maureen!

I’ve seen some people swatch it over white, and it looks like candy – LOVE IT! I haven’t yet tried it that way yet, but I sure will!

Wise of you to snag a bottle of this while you still can. I’m sure it’s one of the more popular polishes in the Electric Nights Collection!

I was able to grab this entire collection and I am so excited to try them out (hopefully this weekend)! I would try to pair this with black. In my mind it looks amazing! I love the pairing of the these colors as well. There are so many good indie polish makes out there that I’ve tried so far so it’s really hard for me to choose a favorite! lol

Did you end up trying out any of the colours from the collection? (It must be really fun for you to play around with an entire collection, mixing and matching. Nail Picasso! :D)
