Hi! I’m Mary, and I’m a beauty junkie! Here’s my Sephora VIB Sale Haul! 😉
It’s both exciting and embarrassing to admit that I re-qualified for my second consecutive year of being a VIB Rouge member. (Maybe I need to join Sephora Junkies Anonymous. However, if there is such a group out there, I think we would just wind up talking about our favourite makeup items and then enable each other to buy more. Dangerous! We’re talkin’ Code Red or…Code ROUGE! Hehe, I can’t resist cheesy puns.)
Recently, Sephora had their much-anticipated VIB Sale, which only happens a couple of times each year, and it’s available to those who reach VIB and VIB Rouge membership. This time, the Sephora VIB Sale was for 20% off everything in-store and online.
Since I have a lot of favourites, I try to hold out until these sales, so I can stock up. But, of course there are always makeup products that wind up in my cart. (Don’t know how they sneak in there. Life’s greatest mystery. Or not.) *Shrugs shoulders and gives a sheepish grin*
While I don’t often post hauls, I thought I would do one this time because I really enjoy seeing other people’s Sephora VIB hauls. It’s a grown-up version of Show And Tell.
When I was in kindergarten, for Show And Tell, I would often just grab something random to bring to tell my classmates about.
Once, it was a piece of lint that I told the class was part of a cloud from Heaven. (After Show And Tell was over, I didn’t keep the story going. It was just a piece of lint again.)
Sometimes I would bring meaningful things to talk about, but I enjoyed making interesting stories about ‘boring’ objects or even just things that could be considered garbage. (Haha, one time, I brought in trash and explained how it was really a piece of history! Like nearly every kid, I was obsessed with time capsules.)
Well, I don’t have any lint or garbage to show you. Bummer, right?
Instead, I have my Sephora goodies that came in the mail yesterday! 🙂
When I returned home after having a lovely dinner out with a friend, I immediately picked up my camera and became a paparazzi.
This post just contains quick photos of what I got. If you’re interested in seeing a detailed review and additional photos of any of the items, let me know. (Not all the stuff is for me. I got some for my mom, so I’ll only be able to do reviews on the things I keep. I’ll indicate which ones I got for her.)
P.S. Ever since Wiz Khalifa’s album, Blacc Hollywood dropped, I’ve been listening to it almost on a daily basis. I think this is why whenever I read or write the word “haul”, his song “We Dem Boyz” plays in my head. Instead of “Hol’ up”, I think of it as “Haul-up”. Yeah, I know. Something just ain’t right with my mushball upstairs.
With every purchase during the Sephora VIB Sale, customers got this free Holiday Tote. I love the graphic print on the front and back, but I wish the straps were more durable.
I bought four Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils. Two are in the shade, Zero (black), and I got one each of Rockstar (my favourite purple eyeliner) and Junkie (my favourite shimmery teal).
Since my mom does her eyebrows on a daily basis and liked the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade I bought her, I decided to also get her the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in Dark Brown.
It’s a thin mechanical pencil that allows you to create feathery strokes that mimic hair. (At least that’s what I’ve heard. I’ve never done my eyebrows before, but I’m curious to try it once.) Also, the other end has a spoolie, so you can comb your eyebrows and also blend in the pencil strokes.
Since I love long-lasting lipstick and have never tried a liquid version of them (except for OCC’s Lip Tars), I couldn’t resist the Too Faced Melted Kisses set, which contains four mini tubes.
I purchased two packs of the Jack Black Lip Balm trio sets. They contain my favourite Jack Black Lip Balm scents: Mint and Shea. New and exclusive to this set is Asian Pear, which I’m excited to try.
As you may know, Jack Black Lip Balms have been my Holy-Grail lip balms since 2011. They heal your lips instead of just coating them. When you use them, your lips won’t be dry, even in the dead of winter. Plus they have SPF, which is very important!
Shiseido Facial Cotton is pricey, but it’s worth it. Each cotton square is super soft. Plus it’s better quality than what you typically find – it doesn’t tear, shred, or get lint-y easily. (I got these for my mom because they’re now her favourite.)
My favourite foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation because it creates an even canvas, and it feels really light on your skin, especially when you apply it with a damp beautyblender.
The shade, 1W2 Sand matches my skin exactly, so I don’t have to work too hard to get it to blend in.
It doesn’t come with a pump, so I just bought the one from MAC. It fits the bottle perfectly. Without the pump, I might go crazy having to carefully pour the liquid out!
Shiseido is my favourite skincare brand, and even though I may try out different brands, I always keep Shiseido ready to step in when others fail.
I like Shiseido’s cleansers and decided this time to try a new one – the Shiseido Gentle Cleansing Cream.
There has been so much hype over the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, so I had to try it in Patina.
Here’s where I splurged on a luxury product! 🙂 I’m so excited that I got the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Nude Beige. It’s a nude pink that I should be able to wear with anything. (I really wanted to get the bright red, but it was out of stock during the VIB Sale.)
Yes, it comes in a box, but I had to take it out because the tube is so beautiful and classy!
My favourite night moisturizer is the Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Night Cream. I just finished the last bit a couple of weeks before the VIB Sale, so it was great timing!
My mom and I love the Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Day Cream SPF 18, so I got one for her and one for me. Funny how we both ran out of it at the exact same time!
Since my Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder is nearly done, I got Tarte Smooth Operator, which is also a finishing powder.
This came in a box, but the pattern on the compact was neat, so I busted it out.
Since I re-qualified for the Sephora VIB Rouge membership through next year (to December 31, 2015), they sent me a free gift – a Formula X nail polish.
I’ve never tried any Formula X nail polishes, so I’m excited about this. Have you tried any?
I also bought two more things for my mom, but they’re en route to me, and I don’t have them yet to photograph.
I got her the GHD Air Professional Performance Hairdryer because her cheap hairdryer died just a few days ago. Additionally, I bought her the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Essentials holiday gift set because I’ve been hearing lots of people rave about how the serum is pretty much a miracle, and my mom loves trying luxurious skincare, but she never buys it for herself. Thought I’d treat her! 🙂
Oh yes, and I also purchased the Josie Maran 100 Percent Pure Argan Oil in the jumbo 4-ounce bottle. I love using that on my hair!
Would you like to see me do in-depth reviews on anything in this haul? Did you get anything from the Sephora VIB Sale? What’s your favourite beauty product to splurge on?
If there is ever a Sephora Junkies Anonymous, you’d see all bloggers in it, nothing new 🙂 I like the adults’ Show and Tell, and I think stuff we bought from Sephora are pieces of history too lol.
Don’t know if you tried the Quo cotton pads, not bad at all and cheaper than Shiseido’s.
Gasp, you never tried a Formula X? J/k, I collected the glitters when they went on clearance, fit the budget better
Hey Sparkled Beauty!
So, beauty junkies are really historians! 😉
Yes, I tried the Quo cotton pads before I ventured out to the Shiseido ones. While they were pretty good (definitely a step up from the typical drugstore cotton pads), I still found Shiseido’s to be much softer on my face. That being said, I rotate the brand that I use when it comes to cotton pads, simply because I can’t always afford to splurge on the Shiseido ones. But for my mom, I always get her the best! 🙂
I’m interested in see reviews of the Too Faced and Stilla lip products. 🙂
Nice haul. Mine wasn’t nearly as extensive!
Hey Melissa!
Hope you liked the Quick Look post with swatches that I published today on the Too Faced Melted Kisses set! 🙂
What did you end up picking up during the sale?
Never be ashamed of your haul! It’s a pretty good one too. I didn’t go too crazy this year, just got myself a nice palette.
I’ve tried the Formula X polishes and they’re actually really good! Their shades are amazingly opaque, but I always use 2 coats out of habit lol
Hey Lawren!
Aww, thanks for making me feel a bit better about going all out during the sale! 🙂
Which palette did you get? (I was planning to get the blush set by Tarte, but during the sale, it must’ve been sold out because I couldn’t find it. But now I see it’s back up.)
Sounds like me – even when a polish is a one-coater, I still use two coats out of habit!
Drooling! So much yummy Shiseido goodies! I was really trying to be good and ended up with just four items. Kicking myself for not getting the Jack Black sets tho. How would you compare the Benefiance line to The Skincare one? I tried the Ibuki line but hate the scent. Like Melissa, I’m looking forward to the lip product reviews! 🙂
Hey Stacey!
Nice! Which four items did you end up picking up? Shiseido has so many amazing skincare products, so if I had a bigger budget, I could really go nuts!
I love the Shiseido Benefiance line way more than the Shiseido The Skincare line because the former is richer, creamier, and longer-lasting. Especially in the winter when the cold wind is so harsh on my sensitive skin, I find that Benefiance really protects my skin and locks in moisture more intensely than The Skincare. The Skincare is very light. For those who have oily skin, The Skincare might be better.
Also, the Benefiance line is a great base for my foundation. No, it doesn’t make my foundation last longer, but it makes my skin feel soothed and comfortable, so even though I wear Estee Lauder Double Wear (which can feel drying), it doesn’t because of my moisturizer.
It looks like you had a goo time. LOL I’m not much of a make up person, but I am all about nail polish. The Formula X polish looks really cool. I’ve never used it either and I look forward to your review of it.
Hey Melissa!
Yeah, a bit too much of a good time! 😉 But a bad time for my wallet. Haha, don’t worry – I shop responsibly! (Debt is never worth even the most coveted beauty products.)
I’ll probably wear the Formula X nail polish in December when red is more festive. 🙂
I have tried the Sheisedo cottons and I wasn’t as jazzed about them as I wanted to be. Formula X polishes are nice and last a few days longer than other polishes. I prefer it over Essie. I did pickup the Anastasia brow pencil and I am in love. I’ll never go back. You’ll see.
High 5 for re-upping on VIB rouge. I am a few hundred dollars away and I don’t know if I want to go ahead and do it or just wait for next year. #makeupjunkieproblems
Shan recently posted: Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Set
Hey Shan!
I was the opposite. Hehe, when I first decided to “splurge” on Shiseido cotton pads, I thought, “How different could a cotton pad really be?” But I really love how soft they are!
So happy to hear that you’re enjoying the Brow Wiz – I know my mom will enjoy it. I’m really tempted to get one for myself, but haha, I don’t want to add another thing to my Get-Ready-in-the-Morning routine. 😉
