Life is complicated. Your skincare shouldn’t be.
For me, I am the most interested in stripped-down skincare that doesn’t have bells and whistles. Instead, I want it to perform like a winning racehorse.
While for most beauty products, I’m swayed by the packaging and different scents or colours, when it comes to skincare, I’m a strong advocate that simple is best.
Especially when you have sensitive skin like I do, fragrances and harsh ingredients don’t often play well. So when the Simple skincare company’s PR reached out to me and gave me the opportunity to try some of their products for the first time, I was totally on board!
What I like about Simple skincare is that they’re found in the drugstore and at some grocery stores, making them easy to not only find, but also to get on sale at price points that make the products accessible to more people of varying socio-economic statuses.
But, you know me. It’s not all about the dollar! When it comes to skincare, I’m willing to pay top dollar (within reason), if it’s significantly effective that I notice a difference. And if I get the results for a drugstore price, that’s even better!
The Simple skincare brand is new to me, even though when I posted an Instagram photo of some of their products that I was testing out, it was pretty interesting to see that a lot of people really loved the brand and raved about products they enjoyed using. (Clearly, when it comes to drugstore skincare, I’m not in the loop as I am with nail polish and makeup!) 😉
I was very curious to dive into this bottle of Simple Eye Make-up Remover. It was also good timing that PR sent it to me exactly when I finished the very last drop of my other remover!
I’ve been testing out this eye makeup remover daily for about a week now, and I have some strong opinions about it because in addition to having sensitive skin, my eyes are also sensitive. Since Simple skincare claims to be the “Sensitive Skin Experts”, they had a lot to live up to!
Come see how this product fared!

Simple Eye Make-up Remover Review
Efficacy
Before all else, I judge an eye makeup remover based on whether or not it gets all of my eye makeup off without me having to rub or tug on that delicate area around my eyes. Some removers also burn my eyes or leave behind a weird oily film, and I have to blink my eyes a lot to see clearly, which is pretty scary!
I’m ecstatic to report that the eye makeup remover by Simple is a real winner! It didn’t irritate my eyes in the slightest, and I have such sensitive, dry eyes that even a little wind can make them red at the drop of a hat!
To get maximum results, I wet a Shiseido cotton square with a little bit of the remover and gently wiped my eyelids and along my lash line. (I wear eyeliner daily, and sometimes I wear eye shadows.)
Without having to rub for a long time, my makeup came off easily and quickly.
Formula
Some oil-free makeup removers I’ve tried in the past still somehow felt oily, and they’ve left behind a greasy feeling, so much so that I always washed my face and eyes with a cleanser.
The Make-up Remover by Simple doesn’t have an oily feeling at all – not even slightly! And it has a slightly cooling effect, but not strong like menthol, so don’t worry! (I’d describe it to be slightly cooling like when you put cucumbers on your eyelids, but not so cold like you just took them from the fridge.)
Because of its efficacy and it’s non-greasy formula, it has knocked my previous drugstore staple to the sidelines. I’m going to use this from now on, unless I find something better.
The oil-free formula doesn’t have a greasy residue, it contains Pro-Vitamin B5 (to help restore, soften, and smooth), plus it doesn’t have perfumes, dyes, or harsh ingredients!
On the back of the bottle, it says that it’s hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, and ophthalmologist-tested.
Packaging
I appreciate the practical, no-nonsense packaging. The bottle is clear, so you can easily see how much product is left.
I also like how there’s a flip-up cap to cover a small hole for dispersing the product onto a cotton pad. The small hole helps you prevent accidentally pouring out too much too fast.

Final Verdict: 10/10
It takes a lot for a skincare product to impress me so much that it gets a perfect score, but the Simple Eye Make-up Remover won me over, and I’m a new fan!
If you haven’t had any luck with other eye make-up removers you’ve tried, or if you just want to cut down on unnecessary ingredients like perfume, dyes, and oil, I highly recommend you try this. (I’m practically rustling my pom poms at you! RAH – RAH – RAH!) 😉
Have you tried any Simple skincare products? What Simple skincare products would you like me to review? Do you have sensitive skin and/or sensitive eyes?
Edit: Thanks for your support, Simple! 🙂
Thanks for the informative review, Mary! I’m currently on the hunt for my new HG eye makeup remover, so I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for this one. I’ve found that, as I’ve gotten a little older, my skin has become much drier, and my old remover was just too harsh and drying on the eyes. I must say that it’s always a bit shocking to me to hear people say they never wear mascara, since it’s the one beauty product I would never leave home without!:)
Hey Jess!
Thank YOU for leaving me a comment! 🙂 I know that skincare isn’t as colourful or wild as makeup or nail polish, but it’s important because we need to use it everyday. When you find one that works so well, it’s a keeper!
I actually used to always wear mascara when I was in university, but after, I stopped because I have long lashes, and with mascara, they would annoy me and sweep against the lenses of my glasses. Plus my eyes tend to get irritated quickly, even by many ‘hypoallergenic’ mascaras. I just decided to skip it. For me, eyeliner is a must-wear. Well, I can leave the house without a stitch of makeup, but I just like wearing eyeliner, if I only had to choose one makeup product to wear.
I don’t wear eye makeup but If I did , I would definitely try this stuff. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Melissa!
Haha, well, you save more time by NOT wearing makeup! It’s a good thing to let your skin breathe more.
I have blonde eyelashes so mascara is kind of required for me. 😉
I have tried this product in the past and I agree that it is good for eyeshadow and liners, but I could not get the mascara off, even the non-waterproof kind. I wear mascara every time I do my makeup, so that was a deal breaker for me. Glad you had better luck with it!
Hey Beth!
I had a friend in high school who had blonde eyelashes, and when she wore black mascara, it was always such a dramatic difference! It really made her eyes stand out in such a pretty way.
Yes, I can totally understand how it was a deal-breaker for you, especially because you wear mascara on a daily basis. Such a shame it didn’t work for you! But hopefully you’ve found something else that works better for you! 🙂
Hi Mary,
Thanks for this review. I’m always looking for new makeup removers and this looks promising. I have one small request. Will you include the suggested retail price in your key notes? I realize you get some products gratis for reviewing and I appreciate that you’re honest enough to always say so, but I’d like to know what stuff costs if you have that info. If you have mentioned that in your review and I’ve missed it, please forgive me. My eyes (and brain!) aren’t what they used to be, LOL.
Love your reviews, as always!
Hey Mary!
Thanks for the suggestion! Although I’m only now getting around to replying to your comment, I read it the day you submitted it. Recently, I’ve been trying to keep your suggestion in mind, so now I’m adding the retail price in my reviews on a regular basis. I hope you find it helpful! 🙂 Thanks for your feedback!
